Remember going to Woolworths as a kid in the 70s and before they closed in 2008 my first port of call was always the music section

1:53 I remember in the 60’s and early 70’s when most of their stores still had the old gas lights. In the power cuts during the miners strike they used them again when most other shops were struggling with small lamps or torches.

I loved Woolies especially as a child, I loved the doll's hospital and all the lovely chad valley toys, a lot of my clothes were ladybird, those were the days never to return sadly.

3 soft pretzels (only ones close in taste, texture today is WAWA) for a quarter and a bottle of coke 5 cents. AMT or Revelle model cars 1.49. Flip flops 10cents...late 50’s.

Wilkinson are good replacements ehere they have opened up where Woolworth stores were. They have pick and mix like the old Woolworth did.
Wilko doesn't seem so packed as the old Woolworth was. You couldn't move on a Saturday afternoon in the old Woolworth but Wilko seem to be more profitable than the old Woolworth. No sign of Wilko closing down.

McCrorys (also popular in Jersey back then) sold finches and parakeets. Don't remember Woolworths selling birds or animals, however.
