    It's good to see that those landmarks haven't changed very much . I'm really surprised that there's no sign for the Pantages theater because you see it very often in photos and film clips from old Hollywood . That was a great vlog Jordan , keep up the great work and be safe. Btw good luck with your move . Looking forward to Part 2

    Mega years ago, I visited Hollywood,, long before the Internet was invented. I wish you had been there then to be my tour guide. I found much of LA a disappointment, then, and only opted for a strudio tour, to take the bad taste out of my mouth. Yet, I'm sad to see homeless on this blvd now, and trash plus graffiti.

    The Roosevelt is one place where I've felt the ghosts of Hollywood still lingering. Everything from the architecture to the various bars that inhabit the place (w mini bowling alley) to the stlish patio around the pool (the pattern on the bottom of that pool was created by David Hockney). It has a great history and I hope that the careful treatment of that legacy continues on.

    Every time I am in Hollywood and Beverly Hills I have an overwhelming feeling that I am wandering around "a museum of past glamour and excitement". As a person in my early 60's virtually everyone that I admired as a "star" entertainer is now gone. I was so fortunate to have seen many of them in person (Elvis, Dean Martin, Johnny Carson, Ernest Borgnine, Bob Hope, etc etc). Now when I return to SoCal its for the weather, Disneyland, the architecture, physical beauty, and the memories. So with that in mind - a sincere thank you Jordan for keeping the memories alive!

      Do you remember a tv show it was called , ABC The Hollywood Palace , taped at The Hollywood Palace?

    • @nyc783
      @nyc783 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jay-vr9ir I DO! It was the original "El Capitan theater that was used by Ralph Edwards for "This Is Your Life" and "Truth or Consequences" until that show moved to NBC on Sunset and Vine (demolished in 1964 for a bank building) - later ABC bought the place and used it for the "Hollywood Palace" shows and in 1975-76, Lawrence Welk did his taping there, until the building was sold. It is one of the landmarks still there, with the Capital Records kata-corner across the street and the Knickerbocker Hotel (now a retirement home) behind it.

    • @Jay-vr9ir
      @Jay-vr9ir 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nyc783 I remember Adam West as Batman pulling up , on The Hollywood Palace and then Merv Griffin used the building for The Merv Griffin Show in the early seventies . I am a tv and location fan , I found the hotel from I love Lucy THE AVALON , in Hollywood at last . I found the beach from the closing of Ski Party, it is at The Annenberg Club and so many more .

    • @nyc783
      @nyc783 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jay-vr9ir I attended the Merv Griffith Show numerous times from 1977-1982. At that time, his shows were taped at the TAV Celebrity Theater, which were the original ABC studios. When ABC relocated to Prospect, the building was used for a bowling alley. Merv bought it in the 70's and turned it into the TAV Celebrity Theater. When his shows stopped, and/or the building was sold, an arson set it on fire. The Brown Derby on Vine as well as Howard Johnsons on Hollywood & Vine (the old Howdy's) was also set on fire. The original Brown Derby was demolished, a shopping center built with a facsimile of the Brown Derby Hat on the third floor outdoor balcony. The Ambassador Hotel and Coconut Grove are gone - most business disappeared to do an unsafe neighborhood.

    Hi Jordan, I liked the Henry Fonda Theatre with the lovely 1920's photo of the lady and the classic old car. I do love that mural of the old Hollywood stars at the cinema. My favourite is the Max factor building, all the great old Hollywood stars that have passed through those doors, I bet they are turning in their graves at the way Hollywood looks today. I wish I had paid more attention to those signs on Hollywood Boulevard when I was there last year, because I'm really into all of that history. I did go to several of those places including the Roosevelt Hotel. I can't say I was shocked at all the homeless and mentally ill people but it was sad nonetheless. Within our first hour in Hollywood , we were staying on Orchid Street right behind Hollywood Boulevard, we were accosted by "Superman" in front of Grauman's Chinese who went after us with his fists raised saying he was going to " f**k us up" because we wouldn't give him $5 to take a picture with him. Also, a homeless woman asked for money and when we politely declined she told us how "ugly!" we were. Lol. It was a little scary but overall we definitely loved our trip.

    Great video! But the only problem I have with it is that there's a longer shot of the sign and you reading the sign rather than the actual building

    I worked at Lee Drugs Hollywood and Highland. It’s now a big Hollywood Souvenir shop. Southwest corner of Hollywood Blvd. lots of character actors came in to have lunch at the counter. 2 of the regulars were Hal Smith ( Otis on Andy Griffith and Alan Hale Jr. ( Skipper on Gilligan’s Island. ) I regularly delivered to Bob Barker who lived on Outpost just north of Franklin. He and Dorthy Joe would shop at the “ Hughes Market. Highland & Yucca.

    How often have I driven by some of these buildings, such as the Taft, and wondered what they were originally. Now I know! Thanks, Jordan.

    When I went to Musicians Institute in 1981 (when it was at 6757, above the Hollywood Wax Museum), the Frederick's of Hollywood store was there. I drove by it everyday when I got off of the 101, traveling from Covina.

    I saw the Hollywood premiere of the film Woodstock, in the Egyptian Theater! When I was brought up for the Viet Nam draft, we were housed at the Roosevelt Hotel. Thankfully, I failed the physical, and avoided the draft!

    There is a video on TH-cam of Hollywood in 1957. That's the place I remember when I was a girl from 1954 to 1960. I attended Blessed Sacrament School on Sunset Blvd.

    It's weird to see Hollywood Blvd. so quiet. Stores boarded up. Almost no people on the street. I saw a silent movie at the Egyptian just before we went into lockdown. Great job vlogging all these historical places, Jordan!!!! Nice to know they'll be there waiting for us when the pandemic is over.

    AWESOME vlog. Brought back memories of earlier LA visits. Had to have a drink by the pool at the Roosevelt. Another time caught a movie at El Capitan and enjoyed the preshow music of the man playing the organ. Can't wait to visit again. Thanks again, Jordan.

    These Hollywood histories are good for the present folks to see the grander of the past. Most of the buildings that are gone were there when I used to make several visits a year, back in the 1970's. So sad to see The Chinese Theater and Warner's Theater closed. The Brown Derbys' (2 of them) are gone - I had the best ice cream at C.C. Browne's (now gone). Hollywood is more like a dump now. I would not care to go back, but love the history. Behind the Hollywood Roosevelt is Hollywood High School. Not only are the great stars gone - most of the landmark buildings have disappeared as well. I have my 3-D stereo pictures I took of Hollywood in the '60s and '70s - NO comparison to what it is today!

    On the corner of Hollywood and McCadden Place next to Micelis there is currently a store called Red White and Blue on Hollywood according to Google street view. When I left L.A. in the 90's it was a Jack in the Box restaurant but, before that in the 70''s it was a coffee shop called The Golden Cup. Jackson Browne references it in the song Boulevard with the line "Down at The Golden Cup, they set the young ones up." It was a reference to the male hustlers at the time.

    Thank you for your vlog. I understand there are proposals to reduce the lanes and increase the sidewalk width on Hollywood Blvd. I hope they do that. Being from LA and living on Whitley in the 1970s and 1980s when you came down Whitley Heights to Hollywood Blvd the Kress (Frederick's of Hollywood Bldg) was painted lavender and pink and lit with red neon around the windows. No way you could have missed it. We would be down on the Blvd every night if we didn't have a casting the next day. I recall thinking after they put in the McDonalds on Highland that that was the end of Hollywood Blvd. Once again thanks.

    Are you familiar with Christophe Choo? He's a Beverly Hills real estate, he knows everything about that area. (Hollywood, LA, surrounding areas )He seems to be a real nice guy. He's here on TH-cam of course. ( I'm not trying to be critical, just wanted to pass some good information to you!)

    We held our own “awards” ceremony honoring Drs and government officials that donated their time, fund raising efforts and scientific work done towards the American Heart Assn. at the Rosevelt Hotel, the Biltmore Hotel and Century Plaza Hotel. We also had employee appreciation parties at Paramount Studios a couple of times. It was very nostalgic walking into those hotels and studios full of so much Hollywood history behind them. Thanks Jordan for filling in the details of all of these landmarks that we might have never known about other than passing through the streets in our cars and fighting traffic. ❤️🙏🏻

    Van Heflin, my fav, played Phillip Marlowe on the radio. I love your old Hollywood videos! When I lived there I was very distracted by the modern dirt, trash...and rarely looked beyond the yuck to see the old glamour. I'm glad I did in a few places though. Thanks for showing us how they look now! Stay safe.

    Jordan did you know that silent movies had a enormous success and had their stars and there was a Hollywood that that for about 20 or 30 years produced and manufactured hundreds if not thousands. Charlie Chaplin and number of silent film stars made their masterpieces in Esseny or Esany or Eseney???? Movie studios and if you want a scoop of Vloging that would give you boat loads (alot!) Of material to Vlog about. Esaneay was a movie studio located in the Uptown neighborhood on the northside of Chicago that has the Uprown movie theater, the Aragon live music venue. Seats like 5000 people I believe and the Riveria movietheater and live music venue. Check into it Jordan. I believe youd be very interested.

    Hollywood is no more. Those beautiful buildings if not kept up in that hood, will not survive. Glad you're moving and hopefully more safe and less garbage! There is no more "real movie stars" in Hollywood, the place where dreams came alive. Nope, gone forever. You be safe now you hear! I didn't like those individuals sitting on the curb in an off street. And the poor lady tossing food at you. One day soon, homelessness and mental illness will be a thing of the past.
