      Thanks brotha 😬. I had no intention of making the video but after how complex it was I had to. Really hope it helps others since most will at one point or another need to replace the lcd screen.

    Just wanna say a huge thank you from us over here at Fifth Dimension Minis, after a half hour frustrated watching the factory video on replacing the motherboard, I found this video.Turns out this video doubles as a perfect video for replacing your motherboard as well, as it’s a very similar process. Can’t thank you enough for this one 🙏🏻

    Thank you! The 'I locked the ribbon backwards' tip was what ended up saving me! Prompted me to go check the old ribbon, and found I'd done it backwards where it meets the screen - the opposite end to what you had!

    I was waiti8ng for you to finish to see if you mentioned the LCD cable going in upside down as I did the same thing. If you look closely at the ribbon cable one side of the plug end has a black tape over it and the other side has bare, silver connectors. The side with the black tape goes UP opposite the circuit board. If you put it in upside down the black tape will not allow the conductors to touch the pins on the plug... probably a good thing as it probably would damage some circuitry. Also, make sure to plug the Z axis stop into the correct socket on the mainboard. there are two sockets, side by side. My machine did not stop going down so i have to open it up and move it to the other plug. Pretty sure I go it into the wrong one! Fortunately I tested it with the build plate removed so I did not damage my new screen! One more thing; on mine the LCD screen cable had to plug in on both the board AND on the LCD panel so make sure it is oriented correctly there as well.
    To date my machine is still down. I have an early Saturn and have had to contact Elegoo support to find the right drivers for it.

    Thank you so much for this informative video! I am going to be attempting to replace my screen this coming weekend on my Saturn 3 Ultra. This added so many little tidbits that weren't in the short Elegoo video. It just gives me a better idea of what to expect going in. Even the fact of trying to find out which screen my new one is before I even start putting it in.

    First thing I did when I got my resin printer was to purchase an iPad Screen Protector and cover the printer's LCD screen with it - sealing the edges with Kapton Tape. Have not had any issues with my screen yet.

    I came here to find the right procedure. It's pretty amazing that the EXACT same thing happened to my Saturn S. I thought I had all the resin out and when I went to print a new print the old resin punched through the few film and broke the LCD.

      quote " I thought I had all the resin out and when I went to print a new print the old resin punched through the few film and broke the LCD." SO if you used the Option CLEAN Resin tank or whatever is called , that ULTRA violet light illuminate the left overs of resin in your tank ,to get it Hard and then remote it more easily , then no accident would have happened?

      did you also have to dowload the firmware from the "saturn" tab to match the screen? i tried to download the file from the Saturn S tab and it didnt work but theres warnings in the text to use the firmware that fits your printer otherwise it could cause damage so im scared to follow the specifications exactly like the video since i have a saturn S and not a saturn.

    Day two with the Elegoo Mars 3 and I'm already replacing my second FEP film. Just had my first FEP puncture, and I think it's because I over-tensioned it during replacement. Inspecting the print surface, I had printed nothing- and I had maybe a dime's worth of hardened resin in the vat.

    Ever since purchase the black tape has been suspect and eventually let go to allow resin into the printer case. And even when I replaced my LCD screen the new black tape is horrible and does not stick even after cleaning the recess which it would be stuck into. I need to locate new tape once I get a new Motherboard. During ribbon cable removal the cable latch broke off during flip up, and now the ribbon stopped connecting.

    Okay so, overall quality and usability and longevity, Elegoo Anycubic or Creality for a resin printer? To make it easier, just pick the closest model each of the three has to the others so it's just one model from each company. I want to get one and I've narrowed my search down to one of these three companies.

    Great video, bought my first resin printer yesterday so keep these videos coming. $99 Voxelab Proxima.
    So you took off that screen protector, is that simply because of the white bit, or is there a good reason to not have a screen protector on a resin printer? I was kind of thinking a screen protector from a tablet sounded like a good idea, one of the thin ones similar to the one you peeled off.

    • @ModBotArmy
      @ModBotArmy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some do keep it on and I have kept it on in some instances. For this I was really going by what elegoo recommended in their video. If there are no bubbles it shouldn’t be an issue to leave it on. That being said I have not done any tests to see if the extra film causes any sort of distortion on the print. It does not as far as I know.

      @@jon9947 AFAIK you'll need to increase the exposure time so it can "significantly" increase print times as a result.. hence why they tell you to remove it as speed is a key selling point.
      So yeah +15-20 mins per 1000 layers is probably fine for most people if each layer is +1 second exposure.

    • @mikebare3677
      @mikebare3677 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume it's only if you touch the glass part, not the plastic part but I would be paranoid anyway. I have some experience with that, oddly enough not with my printer but with my projection TVs. Over the years I've replaced bulbs 6 times, 2 barehanded and 4 with cotton gloves. The first time I realized I briefly touched the glass with my bare finger but I went ahead anyway (what else could I do), bulb life 6 months. Next one with cotton gloves, 12 months! The third I didn't have gloves but I was extremely careful I didn't touch anything glass. That lasted 6 months only - I must have touched something and not realized it. The next 4 bulb changes, all with cotton gloves (the last one is still in), bulb life 12-13 months. That made me a believer!
      (Note: your projection TV bulb mileage will vary, I watch so many hours per year I need an intervention)

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikebare3677 Yes the oil on your hands can leave deposits on glass envelope of a halogen bulb and the extreme heat on that glass will cause that spot to become a weak area and it can fail. This is not the same situation as the LED and lens set up though. First of all the LEDs themselves are not susceptible to the same thing so you can touch them all you want it won't be a problem and the lenses aren't even attached to the LEDs in this case so it's doubly fine to touch them.

    • @ModBotArmy
      @ModBotArmy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you need to. That screen protector has a film guard pull tab that helps it be removed. If you leave it, it’ll intrude on the print area. But the company does recommend you replace with a fep sheet so the principle stands just that screen protector specifically you need to remove

    • @mikebare3677
      @mikebare3677 ปีที่แล้ว

      Several vendors make a screen to protect your lens: those are much larger than the lens itself so, if a leak or spill happens, those screens protect the taped sides as well as the top of the LCD. In case of a drip or spill you just replace the screen, the LCD is never in danger. A drip or spill is the reason I had to replace my screen - I leaked and didn't realize it for dozens of prints, and the resin was on there permanently. If I'd had one of those add on transparent screens, I could have replaced it instead of replacing the LCD (which I did, very expensive).
