It's a pretty interesting take on the ID, though I don't know if golem would be as accurate a definition as souless depending on where you read about them. but a being under another's control and having no means to act on their individual desires: absolutely. I was curious as to why the ID seem docile when faced with the TV and how that adds up to all this.
O guess it comes down to how we define them. I always looked at an individual who is 'Soulless' as having no morality and simply acts based upon personal wants and needs. Closer to ID possession. But this is more they have a Soul but it is blackened. On the flip side without a Soul means an empty vessel which are manipulated by those who creates them. So I can see it work both ways. Either way i wanted to tie in the Golem part simply because Dr. Ash made the comparison to these.
It certainly gives us an idea of what they are really thinking. There is a Board Hotline where they try to pretend they don't direct the Astral Entities that are outside of the Astral plane such as the copies and ID. But they say, we Promise/Fingers crossed lol.

Is there some special importance between kitchens and that place or was that just happenstance...? Thus Former could not be destroyed outright, but was instead bound to a seemingly mundane object. Though this exile was messed up as it became the focus of another's attention and therefore attained or rebuilt its powerbase. I'm rabbling... Are Altered Items the result of manifest focus. An interesting fact from magic (mostly kabbalah ): Every natural element has its own elementals. Every elemental looks pretty much like human if summoned, only differing in use/ability (example-> Fire elementals (salamanders) have everything to do with physical improvements ) and their special properties. One of the main properties is that they can not be harmed or stopped by their own element- Earth elementals can move through the earth unobstructed like a human moves through air... Anyways, the main difference between us (outside of magical properties) is that elementals do not poses a soul. This means that after their life ends (their life spends are extremely long) they are gone from good (they lose their personality and reform into another entity). There is a way to go around this. Basically if an elemental takes a virgin human for a husband/ bride, human's soul is given to the elemental and the elemental's power/ properties are given to the human. In that way, elemental becomes mortal and is able to keep their personality, reincarnating after death or going to their afterlife whilst the human gets a long life and control over the element but lacks the ability to keep their personality or reincarnate after its new life spend runs out... This kind of reminds me of the way the personalities are given to the golems...

So with the former being able to control id or make id . Brings question is that ability of his species , a general ability among board users and does the former species has many seats on the board or important species? Beacuse when I think about it why haven't the board ever try destroying him or dealing with them . Especially since he pops up in the astral plane time to time. So is he to slippy or powerful for them to contain?
I always looked at the Former, similar to how Emily put it, as given Corpeal Exile. He is banished to being a physical being rather than abstract like the rest of the board. Personally I don't think the board has power to do much other than influence others to carry out their wishes.
Fall to Id and you become as an animal. Fall to Superego and you become as a puppet. Both are akin to possession, and, like they say: Balance Slays the Demon
Add a public comment... Mr_CWhite 0 seconds ago Came back to this video and had a new thought based on your musings about the ID being named and the formers firing. I believe that the "bravest ID" Mabel was directly connected in some way to the former and once it had been named the former gained some measure of self awareness inside the collective. For that it was "fired/removed" then the former started to act on its own with its own will and goals. Perhaps even being able to identify and sync with the oldest house and through that connection understood the boards parasitical nature and started to move against them. It attacks Jesse believing her to be like all other directors, a puppet of the board, but once Jesse defeats the former and they have a partial conversation it understands that Jesse is not like the other directors and retreats. The former then even helps Jesse at the nail, as it now sees that she is also attempting to aid the oldest house as well. Rather than blindly serving the Board, Jesse questions the Boards motives going as far as to say she doesn't trust them indicating to former that Jesse and the Formers goals are now aligned.
I feel the writing was more about the world itself and focused less on the characters. Bit of a shame really. She foes have a character arc but she is nowhere near as complex as Max Payne or Alan Wake.
I feel like it makes sense, for someone to be so fully intertwined with extra dimensional entities since childhood even… I feel would make them rather strange in demeanor
they are curious the key point...i think actually ID are not just shaped human form by the board they have soul too but its under bcz lack of authority by the board and board really wants control them that's why we never seen them in oldest house...the former was the one wants know more and get punished by that...chasm side mission actually can confirm that they like ahti more than the board ( specially high lvl ones )... looks like religious ppl we can see around our world doing dumb things bcz they think God says that without any thinking...like common ID in game ...in our culture adam created by mud and get soul by God and become human ....

I really enjoy your Control videos. Could you please share the song that’s playing in the background? During 1:40
Thank you so much! And yes I believe that is the opening theme for Alan Wake's: American Nightmare. If you're ever curious about the music I out the titles in the description box.
@@GamingUniversityUoG thanks it sounds like Sith meditation music haha. I tried searching from the description box but I couldn’t find it. It sounded different. Maybe I haven’t found the right version yet.
It may be the one from the start screen. I may have mislabeled it.
@@GamingUniversityUoG hey did you get a chance to find out which song it was? I tried going through the American Nightmare OST and didn’t hear anything that sounds like this one.
Thanks for the video.
You got it!

Always excited to see what you create with every new video! Awesome job! BTW, are you going back to Hellblade soon? I loved the first 2 videos.
That's kind of you to say! And you'll be seeing Hellblade sooner than you think.
Great content. Hello from Serbia.
Thanks friend!
@@GamingUniversityUoG Thank you for taking us throughout these amazing worlds with your deep interpretations.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOO... I love the game. But with this explanation, make me have it in a pedestal.
Remedy made something amazing here. Glad I could help enhance your enjoyment!
I'm here from the reddit post :')
Welcome from reddit buddy!
I see you are a man of culture
Fall to Id and you become as an animal. Fall to Superego and you become as a puppet. Both are akin to possession, and, like they say:
Balance Slays the Demon
You got it dude! The Old Gods were onto something
My destiny ass was expecting to see an actual taken taken

Came back to this video and had a new thought based on your musings about the ID being named and the formers firing.
Cool story, bro.
Looks like the iD from Annihilation
Never heard of it. Is that a game?
@@GamingUniversityUoG the movie with Natalie Portman. Her character comes face to face with iD like doppelgänger
I think the Id were part of the Oldest House and the Board took them over.
Where can I find them?
The ID can only be found down in the Deep chasm area of the foundation. Where you got the TV set with Ahti singing and carried it around for light.
Q: what are the ID?
A: enemy :P
You are not wrong lol.
My only complaint to control is that Jesse was a bit dull.
@@Yehoshua66I love your profile pic is that a photo I can easily find on the Internet
they are curious the key point...i think actually ID are not just shaped human form by the board they have soul too but its under bcz lack of authority by the board and board really wants control them that's why we never seen them in oldest house...the former was the one wants know more and get punished by that...chasm side mission actually can confirm that they like ahti more than the board ( specially high lvl ones )... looks like religious ppl we can see around our world doing dumb things bcz they think God says that without any thinking...like common ID in game ...in our culture adam created by mud and get soul by God and become human ....
Why do we continue to insist that human is the end all, beat all of everything?
Because people in general don't like to admit to themselves there is something more advanced then themselves. Partially due to ego partially due to insecurity.
