Hi JP! Have you ever got any occasional clicks/pops/cracking sound from your sheeran+ because i do, i really tried every possible configurations, for example using different cables, looping using a different guitar, using the mic instead of the guitar etc... but seems i dont' have the issue only if i just unplug everything i just run the looper by itself , everything i try to loop: guitar or mic ( powering up the looper with the internal AA batteries or with the external 9v, tried both ways ) at some point sooner or later end up to make a little pop/crack sound which gets obviously recorded in the loop and ruins it. Did you ever had this problem? what you think it can be? i mean it might be that my cables are just very regular cheap cables but i tried 3 of them...
The Sheeran really piggybacks off the RC-20xl he started his career with but with all the upgrades it took Boss 15+ years and many devices to learn from. It seems like the compact answer many of us who started all the way back with the RC-20 have been waiting for.
I've had both. I have to say I prefer the Looper + just because it's much simpler to use. I use it with the Boss FS 6 external footswitch, which I've configured to switch and mute tracks.
In Song Mode, when you switch/mute tracks using the FS6 does the track start at the beginning of the loop again when you switch? In other words do you seamlessly move between the beginning of each Verse and Chorus using just the FS6?
Hi JP. I chatted with you on your LIVE broadcast last Tuesday. Iw as talking about the MEM INC and MEM DEC on RC-500 and a MIDI controller. I reached out to ROLAND and they wrote : "The MEM INC and MEM DEC will only scroll through memories in increments of one memory at a time. I'm not sure there is a way of forcing it to continuously scroll. However, you should be able to target specific memories using PC instead of CC messages. For example, PC#0 = Memory1, PC#1 = Memory2 and so on." As it is not the way my workflow works, I'll need to keep my set up the way it is and keep pressing my pedal or turning the rotary button. Disappointing especially when the RC5 can do it. All the best
Well done JP , just the comparison I needed. If I was coming to looping now, am sure I would go for the X looper plus, then regret not buying the rc500 after seeing your content. I Love the pedals on the X looper, but I am a bit of a geek, I love deep diving and working out my own work flow with the RC500. . Thinking of buying a second one so I can do four Loops, with Midi-link, wouldn't require more. Would be interesting to have similar comparison between X looper Multi and RC600, kina feel the bigger Ed Sheeran looper offers alot more than the Boss looper, when it comes to in the moment creativity. Keep up the great work.
I've got both. Bought the looper + out of curiosity. One major thing in difference missing! The mute function of the Looper +! It doesn't stop a track but mutes it making it practicly unusable for me. You have to be realy sharp to bring the muted loop back in otherwise you're screwed. A lot of users are waiting for an update on this that might never come. Headrush sadly does not have a good reputation on updates.
also regarding this 32bit vs 24 bit. this is different from the 32 bit float recording of the zoom recorder. if you look at their faq they actually have 2 converters at the same time one with half the gain of the other and if the first one clips the system switch to the second one. the boss has "just" 32bit and processes in 32 bit float. there's virtually no difference at all between 24 bit and 32 bit converters you still have to set your gain right because without the dual adc you're gonna clip. 24bit is more than enough for loopers actually probably 16bit/24khz will be enough for guitar if you set the level right.
Boss still have more pro features and tap tempo is a must it seems the X is just what Boss needed they will now up the game always great at upgrades and well with all the years of innovation they are still king of the loopers
Hi JP. Can you give me a run down on the looping course you discussed. What do I get with this purchase? Is this course completely mine on purchase. I have a Boss RC500, and a Morningstar MC8. Does your course include instruction, on how to operate the Boss RC500, through the Morningstar MC8?
The ‘how to loop like a pro’ course is about the technique of looping. The RC-500 / RC-600 courses are about them retrospectively. Have a look at these videos and cross reference them to help you: th-cam.com/video/ZMKhgzX5Jd0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zS1jZhcl3IuHW50Y And th-cam.com/video/6Z5gdcNuHak/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TIKF0eKIO1UiG85e
Like both, however the Sheeran looper + (from videos I've viewed) seems to be more straight forward/ ,easier , for my use. Like the big foot buttons and Screen readout. Con for me (if I understand correctly) , with the Sheeran looper there is no way to control looper volume and voice volume? The Boss RC-500 in general, looks a lot more complicated to use with all the features and /buttons. Also don't like the buttons on it or the Screen readout. 🎸 Thank you for the review !
can i use the Boss RC 500 to sing layers of voices with pre-recorded tracks live? thanks.

I just received my sheeran looper + and chosen it for its simplicity. I believe any advanced looper player will go for the RC500 but it might be complicated to use for many users. Indeed Sheeran looper + does not have any rythm section but i might add it with a beatbuddy or something else via midi. By the way, do you know of any beatbuddy alternatives that work with the Sheeran Lopper +, even in a drumcomputer format ?
That’s difficult as the VLP-200 isn’t a 2 track looper.. however it has a clever feature of multiplying the loop and then if you used the undo/redo feature, you could do some clever creative loops: th-cam.com/video/h4WQNo-W7gM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-wBGNJ9B_ajQtAPN
with the boss you can set sync to tempo and auto record, and then you can start the drums and it will automatically start to record when you play and when you stop it will sync to the bar. super easy to tap something and get everything in sync also with external devices. the sheeran sync on the length of the first loop that is not necessary in sync with midi/tempo
regarding usb the usb a is actually super sturdy the micro is sht😊 can break easily. as a ex repair guy also the usb c can break the usb-a is really difficult as it is a lot ticker! that's why you see a lot of them in professional audio is a lot more difficult to break
It’s funny how many people buy the Sheeran loopers who play Ed’s stuff as well. Suppose that’s gonna happen but just looking at this as two, two track loopers that are heads up against each other. Hope it gave some insight either way.

Yeah imagine the RC20XL brought up to date. That’s a great comment. So simpler than the 500 and having the functions for live performance. 👍🏻

Surely you can import a rhythm sample into the Sheeran looper and use as a single kick too ?
Yes you can but then you are taking up one of the loops. Not the end of the world but still.

Check out the teleport looper new tecnology over wifi !
Just seen it & Contacted them. Waiting for a response. LOVE the concept!
Is there a way round having volume levels for each track?
Which looper?
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Sorry, the Sheeran looper

Your right. The Sheeran looper is easier to just ‘get going’ and those pedals on the Looper + are divine!

The lads who do demos on it import rhythm loops. It’s done easily enough via USB.
How do they compare to the Valeton VLP-200?
That’s difficult as the VLP-200 isn’t a 2 track looper.. however it has a clever feature of multiplying the loop and then if you used the undo/redo feature, you could do some clever creative loops: th-cam.com/video/h4WQNo-W7gM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-wBGNJ9B_ajQtAPN
I recently bought a VLP-200, have lots of time on the RC-5. The VLP is frustrating to use, the drums are crap. Don't recommend.
I had the Sheeran looper just to try it didn’t seem important like the RC- 600 and RC - 505 and of course RC-500
Interesting 🤔
also the sheeran looper is super heavy! that's good and bad good because it's stable bad because it's really heavy and thick
the sheeran plus doesn't have phantom power!!! I've checked that was one of the issues that made me keep the boss! also a lot more routing!
Came here to say this. Was a deal breaker for me. That and the drums. I'm a proud new RC-500 owner. Helps to be a bit of a nerd too 😂
noooo just ordered both last week. kept the boss as the sheeran didn't have tap tempo to sync loops
with the boss you can set sync to tempo and auto record, and then you can start the drums and it will automatically start to record when you play and when you stop it will sync to the bar. super easy to tap something and get everything in sync also with external devices. the sheeran sync on the length of the first loop that is not necessary in sync with midi/tempo
the sheeran looper is more for free looping/beatboxing the boss can do both
the drums are really nice for practicing at home
👍
🙏
Rc500
Won't see me buying anything with Eds name on :)
Fair enough.
regarding usb the usb a is actually super sturdy the micro is sht😊 can break easily. as a ex repair guy also the usb c can break the usb-a is really difficult as it is a lot ticker! that's why you see a lot of them in professional audio is a lot more difficult to break
I don't like Ed
