    Battery-powered tattooing has taken the industry by storm lately. In fact, it has happened so fast that many of us have failed to consider just what we might be giving up when we leave our traditional power supplies behind.
    In this final episode with Carson Hill of Neuma Tattoo Machines, we discuss the considerations tattooers should have when choosing how to power their tattoo machines.

    I have a Bishop Shader Wand and a Bishop Liner Wand, and you can tell that I absolutely love both machines and Bishop in general because I took the time to capitalize.

    Hey tattoo family. If your power supply has a transformer box halfway down the wall socket chord, you can read the numbers for the maximum volts and the maximum amps it offers right there on that box. Also the polarity of the power supply end-plug is right on there too. In most cases, you can go get another transformer with the same polarity and more amps (within reason) without a problem. For power supplies with say a 1.5 amp rating they may not be best for your rotaries but are not bad for coils at all. Observations from my 27 years of tattooing, I can confidently say anything over 0.5 amps is too high for standard coil tattoo machines. (you can fix this by knowing your machines well and then setting and adjusting accordingly. Its always to do with moving parts or externals causing too much load) A well-tuned coil machine will have an optimum running temperature(ie not getting too hot when running all day). Coil machines drawing more than 0.5 amps usually get too hot and lose power through heating up and naturally increase the resistance of the coil wires but only when they draw too high amps. Fun facts I hope, you find helpful,,, This video is really cool and begs the question and theory that rotaries draw more current (amps) than a well-tuned coil setup? this is not bad it's just a result of any individual machine's electrical nature. A good way to understand how amps are drawn from a power source is to talk in "time" when talking batteries, and the power bill when talking power supplies. (simple example to come not a real measure) What I mean is at 6 volts 0.5 amp machine will last for say 6 hours on one battery where a machine that requires 6 volts and 1 amp will last for 3 hours or half the time. The first one uses $1 on your power bill and the second uses $2 when run for the same amount of time. I ordered a Neuma 4 last night so I'm going to test the current at the machine to find out. but actually, this stuff could also likely be found in the specs of the motor. Any increase in load will always increase current but I'm thinking small numbers. would love to hear if anyone has actually tested this theory yet. ps yes, I'm a tattoo nerd!

    Ava tattoo supply (Chinese brand) make a +-$70 battery pack that is well balanced like the Critical batteries, has a pause mode, uses 0.1V increments and I haven't run out yet. So has lasted me a good 5-6hrs. I have used it for about 6+ months and it's still working perfectly with my neuma. For my budget, it's a great option too (from my experience using it.)

      @Pepi Lovesart Tattoo, do you have the AVA W5 or W6? I have the W5 & I was nervous about it burning out my Bishop Wand Packer's brushless motor. Have you had any issues with yours? It seems like a very stable battery.

      @bwildtattoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@graffics7665 i had the 5. It worked up until a few weeks ago and just died. So, over a year of operation isn't terrible. Never had an issue until it just stopped working out of the blue. Never had issues with my machine/battery pack at all. I used the Neuma 4 with the battery pack.

      @@bwildtattoo yeah thats not bad. I see they came out with the W7 now. I'd like to try it. IMO AVA is the best Chinese company.

    Hey jake, now that this series is wrapping up and we ALL have Nuemas.. I’d love to see some live tattooing from you with the machine, and maybe talk about how the nuema changed your workflow, I’ve personally noticed that whip shading is a dream with how fast the needle retracts. Typically there is a point where you can’t turn the power down on the machine to get more spacing in your dots because a typical pen would snag at a certain threshold of hand speed and machine speed, take that same fundamental concept and apply it to a 23 mag for a large very soft shade, usually in the very light areas of my grey wash I’ll find the Occasional red dot, almost like my corner needle snags at some point in my hand movement. The nuema is doing a lot of the work I would otherwise painstakingly try to finesse. And without the fake give that most machines where trying to accomplish I notice I can focus more on how I work, not on how the machine works. I wish it was quieter, but if I where to make an analogy, my bishop wand is the MacBook keyboard, and the nuema is that loud and utilitarian mechanical keyboard. Everything has pros and cons. I respect Carson for being humble enough to not expect this machine to replace every other machine in my setup, but with the cam options the only problem I have is wishing I had two nuemas, so I could have two cams running without stopping to swap them :)

    I've loved this series and can't wait for the big all-in-one video. This series convinced me to get the Neuma 4. I'd been thinking about it since EP 228 but hadn't pulled the trigger until now. Getting the 10% off didn't hurt either. I missed out on the original Neuma because I was just starting out in my apprenticeship back then. I'm glad I got this one though and can't wait until it gets here. Great job, guys.

    # Carson hill . Hey bro wats up. I’m a big believer in energy flow and after bringing it to my tattooing it’s been a dream , love my coil as my vibe and there’s intertwine well , it is a bonus if you and your tools are one together 50% machine work 50% on you. I’m having trouble transferring to rotary as I’m hell old school and looking to keep ol school alive in our chosen profession. I meditate with my coils before hand all 3 as my shading setup is a 3 coil machine setups and lately lining with a rotary but it feels lifeless. Any suggestions on how I can keep my coil as much as possible and it with rotary ?

    I may consider the battery only for the backup in case of the power loss, just to finish the tattoo i have to finish. Back in the days I used the old boat battery at the shop.. I'm happy I don't use it now- my Venom V2 is excellent power supply that has it all, even the rotary machine approximate speed reading and coils and 3 rotary regimes.

    May seem a dumb Q but, how does one know how much ampage your supply is pushing?

    Really good topic.love your videos man....I'm currently stuck between going wireless with a critical or a bishop...so far I've pretty much decided bishop wireless battery for my bishop wand packer......it will be my first time going wireless....I find myself asking should I just buy another critical power supply or should I go wireless.......I'm currently on down time because I have to make a decision asap I have no power supply whatsoever.......I will be getting either a wireless battery or a power supply for my birthday money is tight this year......I've got to make a decision today or tommrow and I just can't seem to make up my mind and money is tight so I got one shot at this.....any advice or any tips would be super appreciated and any suggestions would be awesome.this will be my main power source and I'm running 4-5 bigger pieces a day.....I hear many great things about the wireless critical and the bishop but I also like the new critical power supply wireless footpedal.......thank you for any advice and I hope all you do nothing but prosper and find good luck.....many thanks

    I have the musotoku I got in spain and I recently got the critical batteries and honestly I use both. the batterie I use with the neuma 4. But I have the. Avenger from vlad blad and my liner coils I still like to use my coils for bold line work even though the neuma 4 is a great liner I like using traditional needles sometimes for certain things

    Lol don’t discharge lithium batteries all the way. It’s different from old batteries. Look up how to maintain and recharge lithium. Lots of easy info on google. 👍

  • @chadharrington1
    @chadharrington1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lithium batteries tend to last 3 to 5 thousand cycles, as long as the battery managing system in the battery back doesn't actually allow the batteries to charge to full saturation. So I doubt that there would be much difference between life cycle of the amazon batteries vs the official packs. the major difference will just be build quality.

    I switched from the critical batties to the muso tuko, them criticals seem to struggle pushing that neuma 4 the brand new batteries and they seem to die fast and I could feel the volts fluctuate so bad. Im talking running at 8v and it would feel like it dropped to about half that. I've spent 750 on batteries im probably going to get rid of 2 and keep one for just incase scenarios, hard to reach areas, power goes out shit like that. Those criticals run my bishop wand and cheyenne good but not my neuma 4 or valhalla. So glad I got the musotoku though that thing is a monster
