Thanks for this. Already have the previous DLCs, don't see any point in paying £12 for ENB + a few more mobs+weapons, when the previous DLCs covered entire new areas. Shame it's not a free upgrade for us, when this is cheaper than the dlc pack to people who previously bought it. Steam reviews seems to be focusing on the fact there are still no bug-fixes... fromsoft????
Really, From Software? Shame on you. This "graphical upgrade" is achievable through GeDoSaTo, which is free. But to be honest, i don't see any upgrade other than some minor changes like changes in contrast and the level of white. To call that an graphical improvement is nothing other than fake. Where are better Textures or other DX11 effects? And to trick clueless people with such statements into rebuying this product is a darned cheek!!
Elias Zapounidis Who "rebuys" it, only for the sake of buying it, is dumb anyway. We all should think twice, before buying stuff, but nontheless this 15 bucks are spend very well. I don´t give a shit about the graphics. The new enemiyplacement allone is enough to spend them, if you are a soulsplayer!
I bought the game for $12 at steam, and it was really worth it, it doesn't look so different in the video but it surely looks vastly different once you play it, to be fair, I would say: $12 well invested
You are totally entitled to feel like the upgrade is worth it, but i just disagree. The graphical improvement is just minor and can be neglected, and the gameplay improvements could easily be upgraded for free, for i don't see any relevance to spend money for something, that does not give me any story-elements (like the DLC's; and even the DLC policy is something i don't agree with, since they just cut some relevant story parts from the game so they can just release them later to catch some more money, elevating a game-price from the 50-60ish to 80ish dollar/euro. The way gamecompanies behave is not right, and the way the comsumers respond ("i just buy all the shit") and encourage the companies to behave that way is worse. btw: i did buy the Season Pass for DS2, because i wanted to encourage From Software to keep making such games, cause nowadays story-rich games are scarce, but this gameplay-graphics-upgrade is not worth it if you already possess the game AND the Season Pass.
Elias Zapounidis I agree on that. Still From got me... They can do whatever they want. Dark Souls is my weakness... Though i don´t like a lot of descissions they made the last year, they have a gameplay mechanic, no other game can offer and that´s enough. Is it right? Hell no... they added some of the best content of ds2 with dlc´s. That´s fucked up! But nontheless all this, i still return playing ds. I know it sounds weird, but that´s how it is. ^^
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the original DS2 receive the graphics update as a free patch + owners of the original one receive a huge discount on the scholar of the first sin edition?
So... $30 to slightly upgrade the lighting? Only a few very minor texture changes. Almost no gameplay changes. From ps3 to ps4 there would be plenty of changes, so this would be almost justifiable, but if you have a pc... this is a complete waste of money. Buy the original and install a couple of FREE mods. Shame on you FROM Software for selling an 'upgrade' to the exact same game to undiscerning fans. What an empty, shameful money grab.
GrandmasterofWin Well if you already own the original Dark Souls 2 and no dlc it could be worth it seeing as the DLC is 30$ and the upgrade for Scholar is also 30$ and it comes with the dlc. I am probably going to pick it up pretty soon myself since I never played/bought the dlc but I can still see how its annoying to someone who already bought the dlc.
I bought the game for $12 at steam, and it was really worth it, it doesn't look so different in the video but it surely looks vastly different once you play it, to be fair, I would say: $12 well invested
xrsalcedo You're right. This is the wrong kind of comparison. I've modded DSII to look amazing on my pc. I'm still considering upgrading since it only costs $5 more than the DLC alone. Not to mention that there actually are gameplay improvements that I was unaware of, mostly enemy placement. It's a tough call.
GrandmasterofWin Did you actually look at the changes, there are countless balancing and gamechanging additions and tweaks, moving and replacing items and enemies, adding new paths and roads and you get the DLC for free and at a discount if you already own the game, making it a lot cheaper than buying the DLC's themselves... Edit: I just read your last comment so nevermind all my text!
The shading and Colors in sotfs are better, but its like they forgot about the color orange! The color of the sun. The SUN has been demoted of its PRAISE-worthy godlyness.
+EzzatAuditore no you will get a game containing all dlc better graphics, a GREAT improvement in sound, new item and enemy placement. and some other stuff i cant remember. Worth buying if you do not have the dlc not if you have
No. The game has been altered in more ways than just graphics. Item placements and mechanics have been changed. Not everything but generally SOTFS is better.
Ok, can someone please tell me what's the latest dark souls 2 version ? Mine says v1.10 calibration 1.15 but I saw v 1.11 calibration 1.16 being mentioned several times.
The quality of the lighting is actually slightly better on SotFS, but they've flat boosted gamma everywhere, making it look better outside, but worse inside. They've also tinged it green for some reason. The post processing is also slightly better, and better textures. I think in the end I'd still choose SotFS.
Anyone else find that in most of these comparisons SotFS just looks a lot brighter? There is very little difference otherwise in most of these shots, and I almost prefer the darker look of v1.10 in most of them.
Their is a difference but is that difference worth $29.99 if you already own DS2 or $19.99 if you own all dlc. IMO, those who own all the dlc are getting screwd over on this deal. That price is to steep for a slight graphical upgrade and changes to enemy and item spawns. Unless there are other changes that i haven't heard of yet, the current price is unjustifiable for the amount of changes.
The only thing except the textures here and there I noticed is that the game is brighter with the lightning, especially with the sun comparison at 2:05 which is the opposite of what I wanted from this "improved" version... the older version looks way better in most areas! Wth is this?
Well, there's something i'll like to know from this game, i've recently started playing dark souls and i want to know IF you can turn down some of the graphics (if not most) for the SotFS, my pc is quite mediocre and is good enough to run DS2 (i've checked the specs and it has a little more than the recommended) but i've read a lot that SotFS has more content even if you get all the dlc's for DS2, what i want is some help about: -Can you turn down the graphics to run it like the normal DS2? -SotFS offers more than a DS2 with all the dlc's?
So guy SoTFS is the same ds2 game just with graphics improvements and new emenies etc etc or it comes with all the 3 dlcs??? I just want to know which copy I have to buy cause I have pc and didn't buy ds2 yet and I want to play it with all its DLCs as coop with my friend. So which copy u advise us with pls?
I don't know, the death of real is brown that comes with Dx11 lighting engines is always welcome in my book. No big changes to the textures, but the new lighting looks fucking gorgeous, and, as a bonus, makes the textures look better. I may consider getting this for $20 or $30 or whatever, but I will probably wait for a deal. I don't agree with the pricing, but the results are actually pretty nice now that I have seen them firsthand.
goldenlizard92 If you own the original game its 30$ to upgrade to this version. It's a pretty good deal if you don't have any of the dlc because it also comes with it.
So the difference between the two is that Scholar uses a better form of HBAO/HBAO+ and has a different color palate. Good thing I only bought Scholar to own the game on PC. However, I should note that SotFS is the most optimized game ever - a GTX 960 can run the game in 4k at 60 FPS on max settings. That's a constant 60 FPS, to boot. It also has slight load time improvements - however you won't notice on an SSD, it's one second instead of two on my Intel 750. I just wish that Scholar had been the way they originally released the game - and that they had never released on old gen consoles. Honestly, when they realized that the old consoles couldn't run it well, they should've released PC first and begun work on next-gen. Ah well.
SOTFS Edition is so worth it it’s pretty much a remastered definitive edition includes all the DLCs and the game has been enhanced better graphics, resolution, more online players
The colors look a bit more vibrant in the SoTFS, other than that I don't see any difference. It's still a far cry from the E3 demo but if I ever buy this, it won't be for the graphics upgrade. I own the game on PC and don't have any of the dlc, so getting them this way would be the best deal should I ever decide I wanna play them.
Hey candyland i upload dks 2 pvp content and was wondering how you do that crossover animation? think i could make some cool edits if i knew how. i have vegas pro V11 btw
So basically, you won't really notice much of a difference at all if you didn't see them side by side. So not worth the extra money for a slight, not noticeable enough improvement.
i don't own any of then let but bc I've head enemy placement are much better in og ds2 I'll get it, render it in 4k, a bit of extra sharpening, contrast and a tiny bit of saturation
differences are dark souls 2 (vanilla1.1.0) is ran on dx9 a visual engine, you have to buy the DLC's separately(or buy the season pass) Scholar of the first sin is ran on dx11 (some say it looks better personally i like the aged look of vanilla) the changes they made are varied to enemy spawns, item spawn locations(guides can screw you since you have to make sure you're using the right one for the right game) also changed a few items repair costs fee's for example ring of life protection(breaks on death nullifies hallowing, hallowing in this game reduces your health each death down to 50% of your total) went from 3k souls to repair to 16k!???!?! and tweaked some damage for weapons(personally i dislike the changes they made for items) they did add a few new pieces of armor and weapons nothing special you can find better things that's already in the base game,The DLC's come with the game so you pay once and your fine but the only gripe i have is you need to find the keys to unlock the DLC unlike the vanilla game where you buy the dlc next time you log in they just give you the stuff and you can start it whenever you want no scavenger hunt nothing and remember scholar of the first sin was a rushed remaster (they had a year to make scholar of the first sin remaster and dark souls 2 was made in 4 years still rushed but there was a reasoning behind there choices in items and visuals) its not on the levels of dark souls 1 remaster or demon souls remaster i would say this is on par with the GTA collection 6/10 from a owner of both games and 10/10 for the vanilla game
Any way to get the content of SoTF without the graphic upgrades? I just checked the requirements and what the fuck. I know this isn't anything to you guys with monster PC's that have three digit numbers in RAM, but the requirement increased by 100% from Dark Souls 2 to SoTF, and my PC can't run that, but I REALLY wanna experience the extra lore and the third ending.

Shame it's not a free upgrade for us, when this is cheaper than the dlc pack to people who previously bought it. Steam reviews seems to be focusing on the fact there are still no bug-fixes... fromsoft????
well i never played dark souls 2 or Sofs but dark souls 2 from this video looks better , more atmospheric
+Dancu Ionut-Bogdan How does it look more atmospheric without atmospheric shaders????? Are you okay?
+Cao Cao It looks darker in many places.
+Joshua Levi Renard Well, it's nice to have opinions. But I still don't agree. This is what we call, an impasse.
I think I like the more orange tone of Majula in vanilla ds2
Really, From Software? Shame on you. This "graphical upgrade" is achievable through GeDoSaTo, which is free. But to be honest, i don't see any upgrade other than some minor changes like changes in contrast and the level of white. To call that an graphical improvement is nothing other than fake. Where are better Textures or other DX11 effects?
And to trick clueless people with such statements into rebuying this product is a darned cheek!!
Elias Zapounidis I must ask you this. Are you blind?
Elias Zapounidis
I agree on that.
GrandmasterofWin Most people didn't buy the upgrade for the graphics, but for the gameplay changes/improvements.
If I buy the Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, I will get the game that is similar to Dark Souls 2 right? It's just graphic enhancement
+EzzatAuditore no you will get a game containing all dlc better graphics, a GREAT improvement in sound, new item and enemy placement. and some other stuff i cant remember. Worth buying if you do not have the dlc not if you have
+esben vexø van Arkens so that means, I don't need to buy Dark Souls 2. Just straight away buy Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sins then
+EzzatAuditore Exactly, Is like a remastered version
oskarstankovic alright then, thanks
No. The game has been altered in more ways than just graphics. Item placements and mechanics have been changed. Not everything but generally SOTFS is better.
The only difference I see is that it's brighter and has maybe 5% better ambient occlusion, that is ALL.

Ok, can someone please tell me what's the latest dark souls 2 version ? Mine says v1.10 calibration 1.15 but I saw v 1.11 calibration 1.16 being mentioned several times.
what is that soundtrack ?? in background ?!
Aldia, Scholar of the First Sin
its the same game?
In hindsight, From was never good at making significant graphical updates in their rereleases.
Does Scholar of the first sin just seem to have an overall green tint to it?
I play SotFS with the brightness of the game turned all the way down.
maybe thats why it was making me feel sick, im going to try that out myself
@@trialsofavirus8749 Try it, looks MUCH better.
SotFS got some little texture enhancents, but they are difficult to notice
Players when playing Dark Souls: PRAISE THE SUN
Players when playing Hollow Knight: F**k you sun
That moment when you realize that Dark Souls Remastered virtually looks like DS2 SOTFS.
I meant to say the original DS2.
So you mean to tell me the only difference between the two is how they look? Why give it a different subtitle then?
The quality of the lighting is actually slightly better on SotFS,
but they've flat boosted gamma everywhere,
making it look better outside, but worse inside. They've also tinged it green for some reason.
The post processing is also slightly better, and better textures. I think in the end I'd still choose SotFS.
All of the changes but the overwhelming sun in majula & heides tower were great, wish you could toggle it.
I don't get it, which one is supposed to be better than the other one, the SotFS or v1.10? And which one is the Scholar of The First Sin?
Guy, lol.
Anyone else find that in most of these comparisons SotFS just looks a lot brighter? There is very little difference otherwise in most of these shots, and I almost prefer the darker look of v1.10 in most of them.
Lighting feels better at Scholar of the First Sin, but it still doesn't look like the gameplay from e3
Is that the only difference between the two versions? Just graphics?
It seems like the only difference is the saturation/contrast, lighting, and specular mapping
i never noticed a problem with SotFS until i saw the original game's look
Well, there's something i'll like to know from this game, i've recently started playing dark souls and i want to know IF you can turn down some of the graphics (if not most) for the SotFS, my pc is quite mediocre and is good enough to run DS2 (i've checked the specs and it has a little more than the recommended) but i've read a lot that SotFS has more content even if you get all the dlc's for DS2, what i want is some help about:
-Can you turn down the graphics to run it like the normal DS2?
-SotFS offers more than a DS2 with all the dlc's?
Kakin Noriaki Well, you can go into settings, and lower the resolution. Then go to advanced and set the preset to lowest or something like that.
SotFS actually runs a bit better than DS2.
So a color gradient is the difference?
So guy SoTFS is the same ds2 game just with graphics improvements and new emenies etc etc or it comes with all the 3 dlcs???
I just want to know which copy I have to buy cause I have pc and didn't buy ds2 yet and I want to play it with all its DLCs as coop with my friend. So which copy u advise us with pls?
The coloring in the original is much better. Any way you can change the contrast or saturation in SotFS?
You can achieve similar results by changing the Brightness and Contrast settings of your monitor.
No Big Difference :(
I don't know, the death of real is brown that comes with Dx11 lighting engines is always welcome in my book.
It's a pretty good deal if you don't have any of the dlc because it also comes with it.
goldenlizard92 you got better lighting with gedosato on the original to be honest. but having more people online in a map is probably fun
+goldenlizard92 The lighting looks shit compared to the alpha gameplay which we were meant to get.
Ah well.
So instead of upgrading, i could just raise my contrast from nvidia control panel?
SOTFS Edition is so worth it it’s pretty much a remastered definitive edition includes all the DLCs and the game has been enhanced better graphics, resolution, more online players
The colors look a bit more vibrant in the SoTFS, other than that I don't see any difference. It's still a far cry from the E3 demo but if I ever buy this, it won't be for the graphics upgrade. I own the game on PC and don't have any of the dlc, so getting them this way would be the best deal should I ever decide I wanna play them.
it seems v1.10 looks better or its just only me?
So can i make it look like v1.10 if i turn down The Brightness on SotFS?
My favourite dark souls game loves sotfs such a deal
There is a bit of originality in your Boba Fett
Hey candyland i upload dks 2 pvp content and was wondering how you do that crossover animation? think i could make some cool edits if i knew how. i have vegas pro V11 btw
So basically, you won't really notice much of a difference at all if you didn't see them side by side. So not worth the extra money for a slight, not noticeable enough improvement.
Would it be technically possible to achieve a middle ground between the two?
i don't own any of then let but bc I've head enemy placement are much better in og ds2 I'll get it, render it in 4k, a bit of extra sharpening, contrast and a tiny bit of saturation
Wait for flames of old mod.

Are there still problems with running the game at 60fps?
PogueSquadron the double weapon damage got patched. So thats out of the way.
im really confused what are the diffrence between the games are there any new story in scholar of the first sin
differences are dark souls 2 (vanilla1.1.0) is ran on dx9 a visual engine, you have to buy the DLC's separately(or buy the season pass) Scholar of the first sin is ran on dx11 (some say it looks better personally i like the aged look of vanilla) the changes they made are varied to enemy spawns, item spawn locations(guides can screw you since you have to make sure you're using the right one for the right game) also changed a few items repair costs fee's for example ring of life protection(breaks on death nullifies hallowing, hallowing in this game reduces your health each death down to 50% of your total) went from 3k souls to repair to 16k!???!?! and tweaked some damage for weapons(personally i dislike the changes they made for items) they did add a few new pieces of armor and weapons nothing special you can find better things that's already in the base game,The DLC's come with the game so you pay once and your fine but the only gripe i have is you need to find the keys to unlock the DLC unlike the vanilla game where you buy the dlc next time you log in they just give you the stuff and you can start it whenever you want no scavenger hunt nothing and remember scholar of the first sin was a rushed remaster (they had a year to make scholar of the first sin remaster and dark souls 2 was made in 4 years still rushed but there was a reasoning behind there choices in items and visuals) its not on the levels of dark souls 1 remaster or demon souls remaster i would say this is on par with the GTA collection 6/10 from a owner of both games and 10/10 for the vanilla game
Any way to get the content of SoTF without the graphic upgrades? I just checked the requirements and what the fuck. I know this isn't anything to you guys with monster PC's that have three digit numbers in RAM, but the requirement increased by 100% from Dark Souls 2 to SoTF, and my PC can't run that, but I REALLY wanna experience the extra lore and the third ending.
hey can i transfer my sve file from Ds2 to sotfs
No.
can i have the song name ? anyone help !
ds2: nice graphics that fit with the new engine
sotfs: B L O O M
So... they made Brights brighter and Darks darker?
It's like they just tweaked the contrast and color vibrancy in SotFS... and not in a good way...
You will also note a difference in tesselation and such, if you look on the ground.
From software on SotFS : LETS MAKE SHIT BRIGHTER , THEY'LL BUY IT ANYWAY !!!
where can get . Dark Souls 2 v1.10 ? is a mod??
Why do you compare art? by that I mean not In-game stuff (thumbnail)
im on pc so which one should i get ?
Unsure why people are still kicking off about having to buy it again at full price. I had a look on steam and i can get it for £11.99 as an "upgrade" as i own dark souls 2
exist any performance difference between ds II (common) and ds II schollar?
