I did two stints on elemental one 9 day and one 14 day (about 2 months apart, no food at all was ingested during the course). On the 14 day I took full antimicrobial herbs, and my overall experience with both was that it was hell or "daunting" as Dr Ruscio says. My problem was binge eatting sugar at some point in time after completing elemental diet. I dont think it is necessary to eat nothing (some medical conditions it may be), but I also was average weight beggining and was not interested in loosing weight, I went from a 9 or 10 pant size to a 4 or 6. after the 14 day stint. It was hell, Id like to try it again and eat the one meal a day aka OMAD!!! With chronic Sibo (IBS) people, we need to remain on a semi restricted diet for life, this is my new understanding. Today I am reminded all this trouble one goes to is to heal, not because one has to do so. It is optional. One has to be in the right mind frame and right spirit for these types of challenges. I forge onwards. Profoundly grateful to these lovely professionals offering genuine discussions on an important topic
The less extreme options are so helpful. We are not all in a position to potentially not be able to work for 2 to 3 weeks. And at least in my case, the 2 to 3 day exclusive elemental maybe over a weekend, then bringing in a small simple meal or two daily is so much more manageable. Thank you!
Exactly your comment is what I want to trial next. Before when I did strict ED, I most definitely could not work and some days I spent a full day in bed. So I have no idea how others can maintain their energies with no food.
Hi Julia. Did it work? I just started the elemental diet and I need some real meals. But I'm confused about whether or not I can still be healed of my Sibo
I have tried FODMAPs and its not really working so strongly considering this instead (I've been diagnosed with methane SIBO) and had x2 courses of abx which havnt worked and tonnes of supplements and herbal antimicrobial and biofilm busters
The ED is designed to starve the bacteria and reduce their numbers. In clinical trials, they’ve seen this happen with the majority of patients. However in the real world I have seen people do the ED and not have success with reducing their numbers. So like any of the SIBO treatments available, it works well for some, not so well for others.
Is there a reason why you would want to? Also, if someone can't eat solid food, further investigation needs to be made to understand why that is, rather than just relying on a liquid diet.
@@TheHealthyGuts due to some inflammation and constipation over the years and also ulcers in my digestive tract I haven loss weight. I have tried this product for a a couple weeks as meal replacement for breakfast and or breakfast and lunch with solid food as dinner or sometimes lunch and dinner. I plan to try all liquid for a few days to let my gut rest. But when I restart eating food, it may help me to gain weight back and keep calories up while I can really figure out the foods that work for me. It has been a long hard process trying to figure out what foods work and what foods set me off. I would like to use this as a baseline till I can figure it all out. Before this I would ot eat enough food out of fear of pain/constipation.

Can the elemental diet make the bacteria dormant in the gut during this diet? Then the bacteria will come back. What to do in that case?

is it harmful to do a semi elemental diet long term for months or even years?
