I have been in the dental field since 1970. I worked as a part time dental assistant since age 14. I had braces twice. I went to dental lab school and graduated in 1975 . I've worked in my own lab for 31 years. Teeth have been my life. I started using a water pick since I was 18 years old. I have used a sonic care toothbrush since 1989. At age 68 I have minimal gum recession. I have been using a tongue scraper for over 20 years. I stopped using toothpaste ten years ago. I use coconut oil and a sprinkle of baking soda with my Sonicare toothbrush. The last time I had my teeth cleaned professionally was three years ago. The last time I had it done there was no blood in the spit bowl. My oral biome is balanced. I use no fluoride and tossed the mouthwash. I use my Waterpik. I don't believe in flossing as it pushes more bacteria and foreign mass into the gingival margins. I never feel any buildup of plaque or a feeling of rough surface. I have all my teeth. Both of my parents lost their teeth around age 35. I never owned a toothbrush until I was 8 years old. I bleach my teeth twice a year using a gentle whitener strip (professional, nothing commercial). I eat healthy, take mineral supplements and vitamins A-C. I have a few crowns because the crooked teeth had worn each other out and I had a lot of cavities. I have fillings in my teeth over 50 years old. I would not be considered a very good "customer" in the medical world of dentistry. I've helped people by fabricating their crowns and veneers and have made most of my own crowns. I have a fountain of good information and willing to share with everyone.
What a wonderful interview. Thank you both! From my personal experience, I would emphasize: Do NOT use antibacterial mouthwashes, antibiotics, or antacids. And certainly do not use a fluoride “anticavity” mouthwash, because fluoride is TOXIC. Consider a nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste. I had been taking chlorine dioxide (5-10 ppm), and sometimes colloidal silver (10 ppm) or a generic "Listerine" as a mouthwash. Three weeks ago, I went in for my Wellness Exam, and my blood pressure was ~ 200/100, the highest ever in my life. The doc (not surprisingly) prescribed 10 mg of Lisinopril and never inquired about WHY my BP was so high. I have been reading a lot about nitric oxide and taking some supplements and foods to increase my NO for cardiovascular reasons (CAC Score of 6100). Dr Nathan Bryan has said that anyone using antibiotics or even just regular mouthwash can knock out the oral bacteria needed to convert nitrate to nitrite, and thereby reduce or eliminate NO production, and raise their blood pressure. Similarly, anyone taking antacids or baking soda may raise their stomach pH enough to interfere with the conversion of nitrite to NO, and thereby raise their BP. I STOPPED taking any CDS orally, as well as sodium bicarbonate (at night, to help my kidneys), and over the past three weeks my BP has continued to fall - recently as low as 105/71 and 111/67. Everyone should know that hypertension and heart disease are killers, and a 95-point drop in systolic pressure in 3 weeks is AMAZING. How many people realize that their Tums antacid or Listerine mouthwash might be responsible for their high blood pressure, reduced Nitric Oxide production, and possible erectile dysfunction (ED) or heart disease. Please be careful and check your BP regularly.
WOW! Tongue scraping is more important than brushing or flossing! I've watching more than 3,000 functional health podcasts and this is one of the best. I'm going to watch it a second time to absorb all the info.
@Ayo . After listening to this looking at Mark Buhenne TH-cam and podcast he is the real deal a real up-to-date expert, my opinion. But "I am still somewhat confused" with what treatments to do.
I have receding gums, bone loss and supposedly need a root canal. I heard the latter is, like the first two issues, very bad!!! I was told pulling the tooth would be healthier. Swishing with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide supposedly kills good bacteria too? I can't afford a naturepatgic dentist and am now untrusting standard dentists. I need factual answers and advise. Thank you!!!!
@@dawnbrainerd6423 swish with baking soda. It helps the flora (biome) in the mouth using pH. It will encourage the balance of the biome without killing the good bacteria. Using h2o2 will kill everything, putting the biome at risk, as well as mouth wash.
I feel HORRIBLE for having put my child's health at risk with fluoride treatments! This same pediatric dentist was also pushing GUARDASIL on him at 10-12 years old! We need to reclaim true health ASAP for the sake of future generations. Thank you. Dr. Perlmutter for being among the true healthcare practitioners leading the way❤
I have become VERY SUSPIOUS about Most Pediatricians... IMO-They are DEFINETELY captured by the OVER-TREATMENT Dogma of our current Government/$$$CORPORATE Medical Establishment... All the Best to you, StayWell -70SomethingGuy
Don’t feel so horrible! You can’t blame yourself for the environment and society we live in. We’re all doing our best and there’s a thousand new things to worry about every day. I’m just grateful to come across new information like this when I can. What we pass on to our kids is also outlook and mindset. Yes, seek out this type of information and incorporate it into your life as best you can, but don’t let it turn into some debilitating fear where everything is this horrible evil poison and we end up teaching our kids to live in constant anxiety. Sorry, bit of a random rant, but it’s for myself just as much as anyone else who sees this!
Docs receive $ kickbacks for pushing shots/ drugs - Is it the best thing for the little child, or the best thing for their bank account? The American Medical Field is imploding...no more bribes and bonuses by big pharma!! At the expense of human health!
We all regret some things we weren’t aware of what our kiddos were little - all we can do is make necessary changes and educate our kids and others whenever we can
I don't think GUARDASIL was mentioned anywhere in this video. If you can impose upon your son the kind of sexual ethic that will be sure to eliminate exposure to HPV, there's no need for it, naturally. As it is, we have large numbers of oral cancers today that would have been prevented by vaccination, as well as deaths from cervical cancer that could also have been prevented. Seems weird, and completely unscientific to mention a vaccination against a virus in the context of the comments on this video.
We moved to Costa Rica 9 years ago and during our 3 year tour, our daughter got a cavity. The dentist scheduled her to get it filled 3 months after. Having learned why cavities start and how they can be reversed, we started the Weston Price Protocol. When we returned to the dentist, he exclaimed "wow, it's a miracle. It has cured itself". To which I replied, "no, if you were taught about nutrition and how to reverse cavities, you would see this all the time". He had no interest in knowing what we did. Our daughter is now 16 and has never had a cavity since.
I stopped brushing and cleaning my teeth in the mornings cause of depression and my health started truly declining, candida overgrowth. I had NO IDEA it had to do with my oral hygiene untill last month. Educating myself.
Thank you Drs Perlmutter and Burhemme. I live in India in one of the largest cities so taking on the Water supply Dept is going to be a marathon task. But I threw my old toothpaste out and replaced it with one that does not have any chemicals and especially No fluoride. I was using a Colgate-Palmolive toothpaste and your podcast prompted me to look at the list of ingredients. Im now using a locally made herbal toothpaste with no fluoride. Ive asked my daughter to listen to yr podcast and advised her to junk her current toothpaste too. Just about Everyone in the metros in India thinks that multinational products are safe and uses one or other varietiy of Colgate toothpaste. I wish I had known about this earlier. Thanks again.
When I was 5 years old my father, a civil engineer, screamed against Fluoride being added to water!! He was screaming Rat Poison! In the 1950s he fought unsuccessfully to keep fluoride out of the facilities he was designing.
My wife was attending a dental hygienist every three months for at least ten years. If only she had advised us to have blood tests, we might have found out years ago that she was pre diabetic. She has unfortunately now developed Altzheimer’s disease. Since changing our diet to Low Carb and High Fat (mostly extra virgin olive oil etc), as well as doing intermittent fasting, her gum disease has completely resolved. No fancy toothpaste…. Easy as ABC…
Hi You have to get this book. End of Alzheimers by Date Bredsen MD ( cream cover orange back) - There IS hope for reversal. Current testimonies - no heavy drugs.
@@bettyofferdal6542 We have been following his Re-Code plan for some years and are now getting much lower fasting glucose levels and higher ketone levels. It’s clear to me that this is helping….
In rural India people use a twig called datun to brush their teeth. It should be looked into and also in India there was a practice of rinsing your mouth with water after every meal. I feel as we age the gaps between the teeth widen and leaves it open to lodge food particle. I have seen my in laws always rinsing their mouth after meals and after intake of tea or coffee rinsing and running their fingers over their teeth. My mother in law who is 82 hasn’t had a cavity of gum related issue in all her life.
Don't be misled this year 2023... because the only channel on TH-cam where you can get the perfect solution to cure your herpes permanently is @ THE SEVEN DAYS FAST CURE FOR HERPES 1&2. Herbalist Doctor Kingsley who's the owner of the channel on TH-cam @ THE SEVEN DAYS FAST CURE FOR HERPES 1&2 has the total cure for herpes.
As a Registered Dental Hygienist, this has been a fantastic presentation. So many great points and information that I can take back to my practice and share with my clients. Thank you so much !
@Debbie C Wellness I think hygienists should ASK "Do you want me to put this poison called fluoride in your mouth?" BEFORE putting the garbage in our mouths. They don't. Every time I see the dentist and hygienist I tell them not to, and they act surprised like first "how does she know about this poison?" and then "why not?" They both put me on the defensive, causing me to over explain the 'why' behind my request. It really ticks me off. Just had to say this.
@@winniecash1654 You shouldn't make pointless comments on youtube if you don't have a clue what you are talking about. I have used fluoride toothpaste for years and my teeth are in excellent shape.
So glad doctors and dentist are finally waking up .some of us understood much of this for 20 30 40 years .love doc Higgins work. We don't need chemicals ,nature provides all our needs ,without interfering with our bodies. Still I do appreciate the details of science on this subject . Thank you
We don't allow nature to look after us with out unnatural lifes and food. So we need to compensate. There is nothing normal about what we eat. Go dig up a yam or eat a rat.
Chemicals are needed sometimes but most are spawned from natural plant toxins. Antibiotics etc obviously can be life saving but we still overuse out of caution.
I've been using a Japanese solar toothbrush for the last 10 years - Soladey. No toothpaste at all. It discourages the formation of plaque with a small electric current that is undetectable to the user. My hygienist is amazed at how clean my teeth are when I go in for a cleaning. I love the fact that I'm not using toothpaste at all. Soladey is easily available in the USA.
You both ARE AMAZING. I learned again so much. You are both Drs with integrity. I enjoy you so much. So much division today instead of collaboration. It is sad. Love both of you.
Thirty years ago I told my dentists/peridontists that the solution to gum disease couldn't possibly be gum surgery. The problem was bacterial and therefore the solution somehow had to be bacterial as well. They answered with a shrug and insisted on the surgery which I staved off repeatedly for as long as I could until they frightened me with all the deleterious general health consequences of my periodontal disease. Well what do you know. FINALLY a dentist that is talking sense! Will certainly try some of the things he recommends and will certainly refuse any more fluoride at the end of my cleanings. Who knows if I can rebalance my oral bacteria maybe the cleanings will no longer be necessary. Please advise a particular oral probiotic Dr. Burhenne thinks most effective.
I so much appreciated this info. You are one of the few docs sharing honest and current info on TH-cam. And let’s face it, a lot of people get their info this way. You blew me away a decade ago with your first microbiome book. That was brave.
I find this information exciting news, and it comes at the right time as I'm currently undergoing treatment for paradontitis. When I understood what that was, I also understood that my energy levels and mood would very likely get better once this problem addressed, and I already start feeling better. And with this talk, I will finally take my oral health more seriously. Thank you so much. I don't believe in coincidence, the timing could not have been better 🙌
Dr P, this doctor/dentist would make a great PBS segment with you. The info might overwhelme people but people, especially seniors need to know this latest
I'm a retired dental assistant and totally agree about fluoride. the University pushing it big time to the dental students. Haven't used it for many years.
John warner. I just started oil pulling & so far I can only do 3 minutes. It doesn’t taste too good. Can u give me the name of an oil pull brand that has more spearmint and tastes better? Ty so much.
This is a fantastic amount of long awaited and much needed information! Im feeling empowered and grateful for receiving . Thank you for all your work serving the greater good. I appreciate you both !
Excellent discussion and tremendously generous education! Thank you 🙏 Million % AGREE that curriculum MUST BE UPDATED and the HUGE gap between medical & dental fields MUST BE “Filled” !!! I have found myself feeling tossed into the abyss by BOTH fields of “care”. American “healthcare” system is so compartmentalized/specialized, that I find NO care person will look at the overall, complete system of the bodies they claim to want to help. I find it beyond completely ABSURD there is such GAP that adds to detrimentally deficient “Care”. I very much appreciate You bringing this forward and speaking up 🙏
Dr Ronald King, DDS, (RIP, God bless him), was the president of the President of the North American Wholistic Dental Association, for over 10 years! He was a beloved friend and account of mine, so we worked closely! He taught me all these things back in the 2000's, before his death. Many of his patients will attest to everything covered here! People need to find BIOLOGICAL DENTISTS and support them and others who come through the schooling and spend the money to LEARN THE TRUTH of how dentistry NEEDS to be practiced!
That was amazing, I've learned so much being a hypertension patient on meds for as long as I can remember. I've been searching for a way to get off of them all. This is so encouraging, thanks for the work you guys do, the info you are bringing us, and I look forward to many, many more informational sessions. May God continue to Bless You Guys!!!!!
Wow! A lot of good information. I work with people who have dementia/Alzheimer’s, I’ve seen people with horrendous teeth, I never would have thought the teeth play a roll in it. I have known 2 people who died due to poor mouth care, it caused them heart trouble. I’m a believer in the micro biome in the gut, I never read anything that mentions the mouth! Working with people with a dementia, scares me, I hope at the age 69 that it’s not too late. I teach a class about dementia’s, I will be recommending this podcast and pass on what I have learned today. Thank you so much, I was destined to hear this today, I would have been listening to political news, this was much better, Subscribed!
I’m agree 100% what you say and feel the same way - I’ll be sharing and talking about this to my clients as I try to pass on this most essential information!
Great interview, and fascinating information even for me as a dentist. I truly enjoyed it. Just one note: regarding taping the mouth for mouth breathers in order to keep their mouth closed for optimal pH and bacterial environment, I have to disagree with this recommendation. There is a reason for someone to be a mouth breather, and that reason is usually a lack of airflow through the nose. This could be a sign of sleep apnea, and the underlying issue could be related to nasal septal deviation, enlarged tonsils or adenoids, a large tongue, loose pharyngeal muscles, obesity, smoking and alcohol consumption, medication, or some genetic factors including a thick neck. Sleep apnea is a serious issue, and by taping the mouth, you could decrease oxygen levels to a very low saturation and predispose the patient to a heart attack or stroke. We have to address the root cause of the problem, which can include nasal or tonsil surgery, managing smoking or alcoholism, using sleep apnea devices or even surgeries.
To think how the Pediatricians profoundly intimidated me into administering floride drops in my little infants - to help their teeth mineralize..., tragic..
I told them all an emphatic "NO." Just like I did almost 30 years ago when I figured out how poisonous silver amalgam is, which has toxic mercury. In fact I had to sign a waiver at USC dental school before they'd replace 9 silver amalgan fillings with noble gold.
We lived in a small town when my kid was getting baby teeth. My kid had bad cavities in baby teeth, and the dentist insisted on root canals in those. Traumatic for baby and mom. By the way, there was No fluoride in the water.
Dental industry is ignoring a source of serious revenue. That should wake them up! Every effect listed from gum disease is based on mouth biome. A treatment and regimen to maintain better gum health goes a long way. Thank you, it's very encouraging. I have every issue mentioned as a result of receding gums. Except Alzheimer, yet. At 70 I am experiencing early stages. I will get on it. 😊
Very interesting information about fluoride. When I was in the elementary school, we moved to a place where our home and school were surrounded by fruit trees which were sprayed with malathion and parathion (who knows what else!) on a regular basis. The next year, when we moved back to our previous community the dentist identified 17 cavities which he responded to by applying three fluoride treatments. My teen years were fraught with more cavities and more fluoride treatments. After my son was born, I started having neurological issues, including myasthenia gravis, followed by two other neurological diseases. I am wondering if there might be a connection. The other neuro issues in our family include ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, etc. -- same question!
@@lous.6372 Thank you -- that does make sense. I wonder how long these types of gases proliferate in the atmosphere. Will our descendants have to deal with the residual from these weapons as much or, perhaps, more than we have. I'm just pondering the impact. Thanks again.
I am so grateful for this podcast! I'm 73 years old and have battled gingivitis since age 18. I want to write a longer comment but will do it later today. Meanwhile, you just mentioned a relation to heart disease. "Heart disease" is what ever one knows as the the thing that results in 'heart attack.' For me, heart arrythmia is the problem. I've been hospitalized 3 times with tachycardia, the most recent one was VT, ventricular tachycardia. In fact, I have been posting and commenting in various venues with the question of why hasn't there been more research into gingivitis. After all, I've been plagued with it for most of my long life, and I have read at various times over the last 10 or 20 years that there is a relationship to Afib, for example. Afib is what is blamed for my arrythmias. My other comment/question so far in your presentation concerns germ killing mouthwashes. I have very rarely used them, but I have very frequently used Hydrogen Peroxide, sometimes nightly for, again, most of my life. When the Arm and Hammer peroxide containing toothpastes appeared from about 20 years ago, I felt vindicated in my use of Peroxide because I had also previously heard that this practice is somehow controversial or dubious. I'll return to watch the podcast later today. Here's hoping that my teeth (gums) last that much longer.
I use some hydrogen peroxide in my water flosser along with water. It cleans between teeth much better than flossing. Flossing with string can hurt the gums and push bacteria into the pockets. I'm trying to lessen the receding gum line. Its doing a fantastic job! I do "oil pulling" with coconut oil afterwards. I spit out the oil afterwards into toilet paper/paper towel and throw it away, leaving whatever oil is left on my teeth. Teeth feel so much better!
Hi nice to meet you both! For years, I have wondered why doctors and dentist don’t work together. I am now allergic to seven different kinds of antibiotics … The majority due to dentist giving them to me!! It is a very big problem the dentist and doctors don’t work together specially, for people like me … God bless the work you great guys are doing
With this now known connection of oral health being integral to over all health ... That oral health care should be included in overall health insurance not as a separate insurance, we don't have separate insurance for our brain or our eyes etc.
Wow! Wow! Educational! Great information for all! Again, companies are making money knowingly that their products are detrimental for humans! It is Criminal indeed!! Thank you to this eminent Dr to speak out informing facts to a better oral health!👌
What a great revelation how microbiome works . It start tò our mouth.goes tò our gut . Its a great treasure if you have a healthy teeth and mouth too. ❤❤❤❤. Wonderful interview
I’ve been using wildcrafted herbs to brush my teeth and noticed a huge difference - I brush with neem, myrrh, oak bark, plantain, yarrow, peppermint, sage, clove, cinnamon, ginger and cardamom and then swish with coconut oil while herbs still in mouth as an oil pull, my Dentist Hygenist is impressed.
Hello, i was thinking about a recipe with dry medicinal herb with coconut oil and i just read your comment. can you tell me more about the mix you make please ? thank you
Thank you for discussing this important topic. I am speaking from the perspective of a patient. Would you agree that the disconnect you've mentioned is because in majority the medicine world is the world of specialists who don't deal with the patients holistically? Dentists treat one area and neurologists another. We need specialists, but who sees the big picture then?
I learned so much from this podcast, I loved it!! My favorite thing was def the part about nitric oxide produced by the bacteria - and it’s effects on blood pressure and ultimately potential Alzheimer’s! That was crazy…
@@DebbieCWellness that blows my mind. They are either complicit or brainwashed and programmed. Just a little bit. Just an itsy bitty little bit of research and you know that there's no way anybody should be ingesting fluoride
I had issues with getting canker sores constantly and a sore throat.. I started making toothpaste out of coconut oil and baking soda and they finally went away.. I tried using that and rinsed with mouthwash but the mouthwash caused them too so I'm just staying away from everything except the homemade toothpaste for now.. if anyone else has that issue you can find plenty of recipes online for it
This is so on point but that is what's wrong with our medical system . Each specialist looking at their own little speciality with no real interest in what is going on elsewhere. The body is not a series of isolated individual units but an amazing and complex thing.
So what do we brush with while we wait 10 years for better toothpaste?! 37 min of good info and what NOT to do. I hope they get to the what-we-CAN-do segment soon.
I brush with combination of organic herbs - you can also find good natural toothpastes in health food stores and even make your own with simple ingredients- once you do the research you’ll know what works best for you
Back in the day (late 1800’s?) your oral, dental health/mouth used to be considered part of your body and a Doctor/MD dealt with your entire body. Somewhere along the line, not that much later it was decided they were 2 different entities, not necessarily connected….and dental health didn’t need to be considered in terms of your overall health bizarre! In Canada you can get medical care for your body with the exception of anything related to dental care so many people here have little or no dental care because they can’t afford it!
In Canada as well, I’m trying to scream as loud as I can about dental health issues - people are starting to see it more lately! The last few years have made people question everything!
Yes back in the day there were more farming communities, and what's the first thing a vet did when checking the health of an animal? They looked in the mouth at the teeth. There was an understanding that teeth were a marker for health, or poor health, and helped in the diagnosis. We've gotten away from that thanks to people moving to the big cities.
I get frequent severe sinus infections. Can it be the cause for me to have a gum recession? Also, Whenever I do oil pulling, my sinus gets disturbed, and I get bad phlegm. Can someone explain this
@@champicagunasekera453 have you tried a 'Neti Pot'? not the one that looks like a tea pot, there is one by NeilMed that looks like a sports bottle with a straw in it, it cleans and disinfects the entire nasal cavity, this may help with many of your concerns (I've not told someone about a Neti Pot that has not come back to me saying it was the best and they are so glad they tried it)! SO many benefits.
Interesting and informative discussion. Dr. Burhenne's somewhat strong comments on toothpastes with essential oils (EOs) caught my attention. Essential oils can be potent and some people can be sensitive to them. Some manufacturers may use high dosage of EOs in their products due to lack of knowledge or ... Such reasons alone should not make EOs almost sound 'evil'; they can have a lot of benefits too. Some EOs have high anti-microbial activity and they can upset the oral microflora if not used properly. A general search on essential oil studies on the net showed up a long list of search results - one can check them out. I would recommend some study and better understanding of Essential Oils.
I use coconut oil (for pulling process) for cleansing 5 times a week. Age 81 do need dental care but no Natural dentist in my area. I use Weleda plant toothpaste. And never have used fluoride. It was not in toothpaste when I was a child. We often used Salt to brush with more than 70 Years ago. But now only use Weleda brand for tooth-care. If you breath through your nose, sleeping with open mouth will no longer be a problem. Observe how babies breath. They know how! (Yoga breathing)
In response to Dr. Perlmutter's question stated at the mark 28:49, I refer you to the work and books of Dr. Ellie Phillips. She has espoused and advocated (via books, videos, presentations, teaching patients, etc) for many decades, and definitely before Dr Burhenne did, the importance of the biofilm in the remineraluzation and remineraluzation process. Dr. Ellie Phillips has advocated the use of a protocol she developed years ago and by the looks of it has helped many people in their dental journies. Part of her protocol recommends using ONLY either the original or the cool mint version of Listerine. As for Listerine and its claims that it kills 99.9% of germs I would like you to refer back to Listerine's actual claim. They never claimed that the original and cool mint product killed 99.9% of ALL, i.e., good and bad bacteria. They claimed that the 2 product versions killed 99.9% of germs that cause bad breath, plaque & gingivitis. There lies the big difference between your statement and Listerine's claims. By the way, the original and cool mint version of Listerine still carry, on the bottle labels, the claim that "it kills 99.9% of germs that cause bad breath, plaque & gingivitis". 22 July 2024, 9:11 a.m. Philippine time.
I knew a sheep farmer/sheep shearer from a small rural area on a well that had a naturally high level of fluoride in the water. Every 2-3 years she had to rotate out her breeding ewes because they would not only get brittle teeth, but they would have too high of a stillbirth rate. She later moved her operation to another state but then passed away from pancreatic cancer. Now I wonder if too much fluoride is also connected to cancer?
Could the well have too much Boron, I use diluted Borax to strengthen bones and teeth, could it be conected. Fluride is a byproduct of the Aluminum industry.
your instincts are correct. There are links between fluoride and cancer. The well must have had very high concentrations of fluoride as it typical with some areas. I see this as fluorosis (white and brown spots on teeth) in my patients that grew drinking from such wells (typically from the south east and south west US. Those poor sheep, they could not chew, and therfore not digest their food. Here’s a quote on th cancer fluoride connection, though most will refer to a bone cancer. "In an examination of numerous large-scale studies of water fluoridation and cancer rates, the International Agency for Research on Cancer found that the studies “have shown a consistent tendency for people living in areas with high concentrations of fluoride in the water to have higher cancer rates than those living in areas with low concentrations.” More research is needed, but google 'the link between cancer and fluoride ingestion" and you’ll see that the discussion is in progress and many studies exist.
@@askthedentistHi Dr Burhenne can you tell me what state you’re in? And also, do you still take patients? I would trust you 💯 and if I knew there was a DDS around me that I could trust, I wouldn’t be in the predicament that I am, but I am so paranoid of doctors and hospitals and dentists therefore I don’t seek the help I need and now I’m going to lose my bottom teeth because of it. I’m a 62 yr old grandmother whose health is wasting away because I don’t trust mainstream medicine with good reason! I also have intestinal permiability and maybe the two conditions are linked. I make my own toothpaste and will never buy off the shelf again. One example.. my father had anemia B12 problem and was having 3 bags of blood together per month. As soon as I found out in one of my books about the dangers of toothpaste I changed him to an organic one and over the next three months he went down to zero blood transfusions. My dentist tells me my gums are very good for a woman in her 60's so maybe the less ingredients the better the product. Also removal of amalgam fillings using holistic protocol of a rubber dam and oxygen not just taken out in the regular way, followed by by charcoal to absorb the mercury and black seed oil. so many things are not apparent for instance I had terrible knee pains and thought I would need new knees, A simple charcoal water filter and the pain vanished. I also fitted a simple one on the shower to prevent breathing and skin absorption of chloride. So glad I read that book.
Dr. Burhenne, you say some Japanese made toothpaste are good and healthy, that you cannot recommend most commercial toothpaste but healthy toothpaste are coming. Between now and when that time comes, can you give us a list of toothpaste that we can consider using now.
Wow! This was absolutely Fascinating! I subscribed to your channel as a result of this single interview & I look forward to seeing what else you have in your video library. This discussion raised a HUGE Question for me, personally. This discussion centered solely on those folks fortunate enough to have had regular life long dental care who still have their teeth in their older years. There was no mention of those of us with dentures - who have No Teeth left, only empty tooth sockets & gums, leaving us with Lots of mucosal membrane & deep tooth sockets which presumably still provide direct access to our blood stream? . It seems as if we would perhaps be at Much Higher danger for *having already experienced the infiltration of the Alzheimer's associated bacterium into our brains* - primarily because of the severe long term periodontal disease which caused us to lose our teeth in the first place, but also, subsequently, due to now lacking that "delicate" barrier which keeps those bacteria from reaching our blood stream? It seems like our tooth sockets - reaching deep into the jawbone - might serve as an entry point for the "bad" bacteria to reach our bloodstream? (I refer to them as "bad" bacteria in the sense of them being bad news when & if they reach the Brain!) Also, once this very concerning bacterium Has Reached the brain, what is to be done about that situation? Is there any Treatment to keep these bacteria from wrecking havoc with our nervous system & perhaps actually causing Alzheimer's disease?! MANY Americans have already lost all (or the majority) of their teeth - we're the folks towards whom all those denture product advertising is aimed. This situation really should come as no surprise at all, considering the sorry state of our dental care system - especially with regard to providing access to dental care for Poor Americans - for whom dental care is essentially non-existent. Irrespective of our income level, what should We (the numerous folks without any teeth) Do, with regard to our oral care, to best support & maintain the optimal condition of our oral microbiome & to best preserve our overall health?
Very informative conversation. I have already bought toothpaste without flouride. I wish I knew how to remove flouride from our home water supply until such time as they stop adding it to municipal warter systems.
At minute 31, Dr. Burhenne DDS said that tongue scrapping decreases your blood pressure. So does that mean that someone with very low blood pressure should NOT tongue scrap?
Very enlightening indeed, except for the failure to provide links to the many important facts that emerged, like the hearing against the epa on the use/abuse of fluoride, or the microbiome test mentioned at the very end. And other important details such as the actual brands mentioned: unless known already it's very difficult to identify them. That hearing in particular, I tried to look it up but without more details it's not easy to find, I hope you'll come back to it.
Interesting to know fluoride effects the myline sheath. Many have been drinking water with it for more than fifty years and it makes one wonder why we're all having brain and nerve problems.
Thank you so much both Drs. Hopefully damage I've sustained in many ways to my oral health can be reversed or remedied. Lots of areas have been identified for re-assessment. God bless1
I live in Europe and here there are two brands of toothpaste that may be better than the usual ones: Cattier and Weleda. Check the ingredients to see if they could interest you
I am a retired dental hygienist. What I know is this is unlikely to happen anytime soon... The fluoride added is not natural fluoride which is in my well water but a by-product from the fertilizer industry. If nature don't make, don't eat it or use it!!
Thank you both for sharing your scientific knowledge with us…oral care so important. When I visited my daughter in DC area we found Holistic dentist. Have never used mouthwash or chemicals for cleaning since …only oil pulling It works well . More than 15 years since those changes. Am in my 80’s
What are the dangers of fluoride? If someone is exposed to levels higher than this for a long time, it can cause a condition called skeletal fluorosis, in which fluoride builds up in the bones. This can eventually result in joint stiffness and pain, and can also lead to weak bones or fractures in older adults.Nov 18, 2022
I've been using a fluoride free toothpaste for a while (after I met a woman whose chronic migraines were cut by 50% when she cut all fluoride out of her life as I have a had a headache since 10/1/1995 from neck damage) but need to look at my current natural toothpaste to see EXACTLY what is in it.
I am also a chronic migraine sufferer for over 30 years. The treatment is barbaric. The meds just destroy your cognition and God forbid you have one that drives you to the ER they won't even put you out of your misery because opioids have been so demonized . Anyway sorry for the rant but if you have come up with any answers I would be really grateful to know about. I go to the chiropractor twice a week and that is the only reason I can keep working .
Thank you very much for this fantastic and informative podcast!! I really hope that we can finally get rid of fluoride in water. I heard that no water filter is able to filter out fluoride due to its tiny molecular size.
Oh, I raised my children with non flouride tooth paste and have felt guilty for every time they got a cavity. I read about this clear back in the 1970s. This is comforting.
As I recall, from my own studies on Fluoride, it started with a conversation between a geologist and a dentist. They had some fossilized dentin samples and the ones that had fluoride in their makeup were more resistant to acid. Areas with natural calcium deposits had a significant amount of calcium fluoride in the water supply. This stained the teeth but, without brushing, the peoples teeth lasted longer with a high sugar diet than other areas. Unfortunately, the fluoride in water and toothpaste is sodium fluoride and/or stannous (tin) fluoride, which was used as a assassination poison during the cold war. These are not the same thing as naturally occuring calcium fluoride.
Well done, Barbara! Can I ask...how many times do you brush daily and what is the brand of the "gentle whitener strip" you use? Thanks!
From your practice/professional experience, what can be done for receding gums? Thank you dearly upfront for sharing!!🙏🏼💓
How can you deal with crowns that give problems. My daughter gets infections. What to use to aleviate infection. Thank you.
My crown has a crack in it .zBut the dentist only want to do implants. Can I get this crown repair or get anew bridge somewhere?
Are either of your parents still alive?...if not How long did your parents live?..
I put baking soda and peppermint essential oil in virgin coconut oil to brush my teeth, since 2010. My mouth is in excellent health.
How does this feel/taste after brushing, rinsing, etc?

Bless you for taking a stand against all the fluoride use,I have been wondering about this for a long time

@@dawnbrainerd6423 swish with baking soda. It helps the flora (biome) in the mouth using pH. It will encourage the balance of the biome without killing the good bacteria. Using h2o2 will kill everything, putting the biome at risk, as well as mouth wash.

Where can I find more info about this? Thanks in advance.

Fluoride isn’t necessary in a world void of processed carbohydrates, high fructose corn syrup & pan seasonal fruits & fructose snacks. 😅
I've been using a Japanese solar toothbrush for the last 10 years - Soladey. No toothpaste at all. It discourages the formation of plaque with a small electric current that is undetectable to the user. My hygienist is amazed at how clean my teeth are when I go in for a cleaning.

I wish his recommendations were posted in writing to read and copy them.
Thank you both! Specialists informing each other toward generalist education gifts for humanity. Bravo!

Safe to say it is... I spent a lot of time as a child in Apple Orchards, and as an adult I have ADHD and am arguably quite a bit into 'the spectrum.'
They put it in our water where im from
Herbicides and pesticides were developed from nerve gases used during WWII. I'm sure there is a connection.

He did mention Redmond and Boka, but there is a Boca as well and Risewell toothpastes
@@gatkins993 I think I’ll stick with my fluoride free Jason’s for now.
I agree!! A lot of GREAT info on what Not to do, but very few specifics on what TO DO! And no mention of xylitol?

Back in the day (late 1800’s?) your oral, dental health/mouth used to be considered part of your body and a Doctor/MD dealt with your entire body. Somewhere along the line, not that much later it was decided they were 2 different entities, not necessarily connected….and dental health didn’t need to be considered in terms of your overall health bizarre! In Canada you can get medical care for your body with the exception of anything related to dental care so many people here have little or no dental care because they can’t afford it!
Yes, odontology should be a specialty of Medicine. First an MD degree

I've always believed we overdo dental care with chemicals. The mouth is ok with just basic cleaning
Such as salt, water, and baking soda, and a little essential oil occasionally .
I’m getting all my teeth pulled at 60. Also when you look up the history of Flouride from the industrial waste standpoint it’s alarming.
Really interesting- I wonder who put that together and how long it took someone to link the two
your instincts are correct.

Unbelievable information
Incredibly valuable
Do you mind sharing your daily regimen for optimal mouth health ?
Dr. Burhenne, you say some Japanese made toothpaste are good and healthy, that you cannot recommend most commercial toothpaste but healthy toothpaste are coming. Between now and when that time comes, can you give us a list of toothpaste that we can consider using now.
Also, he hinted at better dental flosses, like what?
@@NARCDELUSION at the end he says not to floss but instead use a water pick.
Great information....but, WHAT and HOW we do it???
What is an example of of a nourishing toothpaste? Which ingredients should it have?
Comments asking about this like 5 times already. For some reason he didn't say except talk about his daughter's website.
(I refer to them as "bad" bacteria in the sense of them being bad news when & if they reach the Brain!)
Also, once this very concerning bacterium Has Reached the brain, what is to be done about that situation?
Great questions. My parents both had dentures and I was thinking similar thoughts to yours after watching this video.
Very informative conversation. I have already bought toothpaste without flouride. I wish I knew how to remove flouride from our home water supply until such time as they stop adding it to municipal warter systems.
There are systems to keep fluoride and other toxins out of your water i.e. a filter system installed under kitchen sink, shower heads, and faucets.
My grandmother taught me to brush and scrape my tongue when I brush my teeth. It controls bad breath and prevents gum disease.
Thank you! This is important information.
God bless1

How can we stop fluoride from being added in tap water
I am a retired dental hygienist. What I know is this is unlikely to happen anytime soon... The fluoride added is not natural fluoride which is in my well water but a by-product from the fertilizer industry. If nature don't make, don't eat it or use it!!

When I visited my daughter in DC area we found Holistic dentist. Have never used mouthwash or chemicals for cleaning since …only oil pulling

An enormous eye opener. Thank you!
The info on essential oils.....eeeeeeeeek!!
I am also a chronic migraine sufferer for over 30 years. The treatment is barbaric. The meds just destroy your cognition and God forbid you have one that drives you to the ER they won't even put you out of your misery because opioids have been so demonized .
My chemistry days in college are coming back to me. Thanks for explaining.
