Some things I noticed: 1. “Snow Ravine” could be the “Cold, Cold Crevice” mentioned in Cool, Cool Mountain. It also seems to be a very small level, supporting the idea that it is a sub-area of Cool, Cool Mountain 2. The ice crystals have the same effects as the crystals in The Cavern of Metal Mario 3. Mario’s animations seem to be finalized, other than the walk animation 4. Mario’s movement seems to be finalized, other than the spin at the end of the triple jump. 5. Mario’s and coin’s sound effects have still not been finalized 6. Goomba’s animations, behavior, and sound effects seem to be finalized 7. The camera, snow, and water all seem to be finalized, with their normal sound effects and behavior 8. The Eric seems extremely distracted this whole time. This could just be Meg talking to him (over the phone) 9. Eric is presumably talking to Meg, but that is unclear 10. Eric mentions visiting Casey, who was the passcode to a file that was posted in the community posts. The clue to find out the passcode was “cousin,” so we can guess that Casey is Eric’s cousin. 10. If it wasn’t clear, Eric is living in Japan now to help with development 11. The person Eric speaks to at the end is presumably Dan 12. Eric asks Dan is he got a haircut, but I can not understand the response whatsoever. Could someone please help with that? Anyways after that Eric offers to go get coffee with the other man, but he declines and says to focus on the game, and they can get coffee after the game is done. To sum up my thoughts, I’m pretty sure that it has been confirmed that the SM64 team worked very hard on the movement and camera, while the levels were the last thing that happened. This video supports that. It’s nice actually hearing Eric’s voice, and I wonder if we will ever hear Meg’s voice. I have just 100% SM64 for the first time, so I am glad that I can understand some of the more subtle details. I will edit this comment if I realize (or if anyone tells me) any more I testing details.
Breaking kayfabe for just a second, note the subtleties that make this one so realistic. it's nothing overt like over the top filters and buzzing and stuff. All you need is slightly below average quality footage by modern standards, a slight gaussian blur, some mild effects put on the colors, and interlacing to tie it all together. That's all you need to make some footage look like it comes from a vhs tape. Now note the level and assets in it. Most of them are things taken from the new leak. Incredibly subtle, stuff like goombas using 3d parts for their bodies and the old coins using the old coin noises. Everything looks genuinely believable. Nothing out of this tape seems particularly fake, it's completely believable that it's real footage of the game's development. The textures and style are believable and concise with sm64 prerelease stuff. The way he stops talking and looks around at the ice crystal both to show off the crystal reflection shader *and* point out to devs that he fell through the geometry. The whole level itself is incredibly clever. "Snow Ravine" obviously would be "cold, cold crevasse," something that some people believe may have been a cut level. It's ingenious design and I have to commend anyone and everyone doing these for their work on it.
haven’t finished the video yet, but i agree with you about the video effects. some of the sm64 ARG videos that have come out over the past few months *completely* overdo the vhs look, to the point where it breaks the immersion.

This. This is the one that makes me miss this series. The whole video is masterful. So visually lovely, I hate to say it but I wish this had leaked with those other ROMS, since it's just so beautiful. The very subtle but very telling/lore revealing tidbits, like the bit with the pond, another hint regarding the accident. The calming sound of the gentle compressed audio. Just every aesthetic of this video in particular is so lovely and leaves me wondering and wishing for what could've been. I won't forget to say thanks on the way out, SM64 Beta Archive. Incase you don't know now that HUD is real, it's from the Nintendo Gigaleak. It may be from Mario Kart 64, but it's within SM64's source code, along with several other Mario Kart 64 assets, but it's in a sort of gray area, so we'll never know which game it belonged to.

Timelinewise, this is probably before the decision to rework levels to make them easier for younger players (Actually talked about by Miamoto), as the level geometry forcing tight triple jumps seems rather unfair to a newer player. i think it's the same guy that made petscop. I watched so much petscop that i have recognised paul's speech patterns. eric's speech patterns are the same as paul's speech patterns. i pitched up eric's voice to sound like pauls. it's almost the same. but not quite. Somethings missing. Also petscop creator says he won't show his voice on his current project, but i got this info from a guy in my comment section. I have no idea if it is or isn't the voice. Also another similarity, the WRITING. The writing kind of has the same style. As petscop creator, especially the description for this video. I'll keep editing this comment when i have more ideas

Lol Super FX was nowhere near able to run this at this speed, let it alone to even process the quality of Mario. Super FX was mind-blowing fort he time, but actually very limited, it could hardly run Starfox and Starfox2 at 10 fps, so Mario 64 wasn't even an option for the SNES at this time of development

I heard that it has more floating point operation capabilities than SNES, and it's demonstrated by some complex physics on Sonic games for instance. In my opinion, I think both of them has different sets of pros and cons, and therefore it's not possible to infer what's the best one based on cans and can'ts. But still, it's a nice discussion hehe

The animation is in the normal game anyways, in snow levels when Mario is idle he starts breathing into his hands.
I think it's the "cold" animation, but inside of the water, maybe that's why it looks so weird for us.

I watched so much petscop that i have recognised paul's speech patterns.
eric's speech patterns are the same as paul's speech patterns.
i pitched up eric's voice to sound like pauls.

The writing in this video is far more stilted and unnatural than the writing in Petscop, and the guy's voice sounds nothing like Paul's. I think you're only making this connection because you WANT there to be a connection.

Lol Super FX was nowhere near able to run this at this speed, let it alone to even process the quality of Mario. Super FX was mind-blowing fort he time, but actually very limited, it could hardly run Starfox and Starfox2 at 10 fps, so Mario 64 wasn't even an option for the SNES at this time of development
@@Leo-ei8zq I guess so... The Super FX is kinda like putting PS5 graphics on the 3DS... If thhe Sega Genisis had something like the Super FX then I guess it could run at 12 fps.
@@covlf1999 there's a reddit discussing the controversial topic of Genesis vs SNES where the op states that Genesis had CPU power enough to reproduce any SNES game using the right programming techniques, even surpassing its own color limitations using graphical bugs. I heard that it has more floating point operation capabilities than SNES, and it's demonstrated by some complex physics on Sonic games for instance.
In my opinion, I think both of them has different sets of pros and cons, and therefore it's not possible to infer what's the best one based on cans and can'ts. But still, it's a nice discussion hehe
