I really miss this era of Nintendo. I loved how the early Gamecube days had a style that showcased a great blend of fantasy and semi realistic visuals. It had a great range of lighting and shading effects, along with a lot of colorful looking locations. Ever since the Wii age, Nintendo games have been relying too much on experimental and plain/cartoony looking art styles. Most of them are too bright looking, and rely on too many basic colors, instead of the wide range of colors Gamecube offered. I was hoping the Wii U would finally bring the Gamecube style of graphics back to life with the power of stunning HD visuals, but once again, Nintendo went with mostly simple looking graphics for most of their games. I loved the look of the gamecube Mario games a lot more than the Wii and Wii U era. The only Mario games on Wii U that looked great were Mario Kart 8 and Mario Tennis Ultra Smash. I would say Super Mario 3D World looked great, but it only looked great during certain levels. Most levels relied on too many bright green colors, simple textures, and too much overuse of bloom lighting. However, Mario 3D World did have some stunning looking levels and effects, if only the whole game had a consistent quality of good looking visuals, instead of constantly jumping between boring and stunning. Even Super Mario Galaxy looked bland in areas. While it did have a great use of lighting effects, shading effects, reflection, and water, a lot of the game stil looked a bit simplified. For instance, the grass in many levels had a fuzzy looking texture, which looked odd, grass should look lush, not spongey. Mario Galaxy had great visual effects, but a lot of the level designs didn't fit with the advanced lighting and shading effects. At least Switch seems to be on the right track with bringing visual quality back to the Mario games. Mario Odyssey looks like it will have a good mix of fantasy and semi realism. That's what I've been wanting in a Mario game for a long time, to see Mario go through more than just simple looking level designs. Mario Odyssey won't rely on Mario just running through cartoony looking worlds, or too realistic looking worlds, it settled on a mix, and that's what I like about it.

I think it was a general lack of dev knowledge/exp. Star Fox Adventures & Rogue Squadron has bump maps in certain spots. beautiful graphics...kinda makes me sad
You can't convince me that the coins near the end aren't Fruity Pebbles flavored
This has the feel and sound design of a Humongous Entertainment game.
Awesome tech demo, it's just strange is the first time I'm seeing this
I love that characters like Goomba still have the aesthetics of Nintendo 64-era renders.
If you listen closely when the arrow tries to leave a room, the knocks sound like a part of the fever music from dr.mario
1:20 what is this musical instrument? Thanks
Xylophone, marimba, or similar
They used this engine for Wario World on GameCube!!!
I noticed immediately from the shaders, but 7:30 is My evidence.
@MrWeirdGuy Remember, That this was made just to strictly show off the power of the GameCube and to show developers the graphic capabilities of the system. That's way you don't see any NPC or CPU and the object you control is very simple and probably contains only a few polygons.
I really wish this stuff was reused as a bonus for something in a Mario game. Like maybe a bonus disc of Mario Sunshine or Luigi's Mansion letting you explore this redesigned castle (Minus the technical jargon and D-Bug of course)
"Graphics won't get better than this!"
0:12
"Just reminding you to be in my class in TWO minutes, check your map to see where my class is"
That's the trouble with stock sound effects isn't it?
I swore this was gonna be an analogue horror project. Really neat though!
I’ve never seen this before, really eerie I was really waiting for a jumpscare the whole time
This can be played on a regular GameCube with Datel SD Media Launcher
or on a Wii with Nintendont
Average B3313 fan: "oMg iT's sO LiMiNaL i'M qUaKiNg iN mY bOoTs!"
vs.
Average Mario enjoyer: "Haha, the arrow is going boingy boingy!"
13 years ago? Holy crap I’m surprised I’ve never seen this. I’m even more surprised that this actually doesn’t seem to be a creepypasta “found footage”video. Says more about the current culture than anything else lol.
there's a dirty drawing of peach left unused in the files of this demo
Really?
Holy moly you’re right
A mario game in this style would be so eerie, but so perfect
yep
but thats already exists, super mairo 64 has the same style as this demo but with worse graphics
@@jytvreal The better graphics are part of the style.
bumpmaps and shadows could happen on the cube, aside from lack of knowledge on the SDK, i wonder why more games didn’t use these features?
only games i know use some kind of normals or bumps are godzilla DAMM and battalion wars.
i’d love to know any more games that use any type of these advanced features like on the xbox.
Too expensive, plus the SDK docs claim it's impossible.
I think it was a general lack of dev knowledge/exp.
Star Fox Adventures & Rogue Squadron has bump maps in certain spots.
Star Fox Adventures alone has got to be the only game that would put a lot of these effects in practice for a real game. Ex. texture projection, bump mapping, real time shadows, dynamic lighting, etc.
The gamecube was such a jump from the n64 in terms of visuals. It was amazing to witness as a kid
This is that moment where Peter turns to lois and says "is this a snuff film?"
When the music stops and it knocks like 4 times it feels like some analouge horror shit is abt to happen
This makes me feel weirdly nostalgic.
Finally.
Peach Castel.
Why did this bit remind me of the parappa the rapper 1 cutscenes 5:31
even today this is groundbreaking stuff
Wow this is old
Well running on an actual videogame
NO WAY IVE HAD DREAMS ABOUT THIS. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE.
Yeah it sometimes can happen.
I also predicted the future in one of my dreams.
A while ago I saw a comment saying that someone actually predicted the Sega CD "you can only use this CD on a Sega CD system in a dream, without ever actually getting it...
It's odd to open this video and see a comment from myself that i left 13 years ago lol
I wish demos like this were publicly available at the time. One of my fondest youth memories is the castle demo for unreal engine mobile.
the impact this demo has had on me is indescribable
2:00: Eheh, i like this part! A bouncing arrow!
Everyone seems to forget you can put gamecube discs in the wii.....
Derp_Nate you can?
@@chocolatechippancakes7759 Yes, you can.
@@notkingboo9323 only older Wiis will work natively though, if your Wii has a lid on top, then there you go, that means your Wii is GameCube compatible
😳 What if we kissed in the Antialiasing Hangar 😳
Then that would be a very antialiased kiss
@@supermarioVB64you're still alive
@@shyguy85 yep, thank you for the wellness check
@@supermarioVB64 still hanging in there?
I really really want to be here and explore this place
This has the same creepy surreal feeling of super Mario 64
Wait, how did I not know this existed till now?
Me too 😭
I mean it's not that popular so it makes sense
Now somebody out there must make a SM64 hack Gamecube render of Super Mario 64 with the models from Super Smash Bros Melee and Luigi's Mansion and probably call it "Super Mario GameCube" or "Super Mario '01" ASAP!!!!
