I rode thru Pikeville today. 23 to 119 (Logan) then 10 to Huntington (I lived there a for a few years). Love riding my motorcycle thru this beautiful area. Nice videos. New sub. Thanks.
I just found your channel and wondered if you ever been to Pikeville and here’s the video! Ive been to that overlook dozens of times visiting my family in Pikeville, my uncle used to say “it’s the second biggest undertaking by the US government next to the Panama Canal.” Wonder if it’s still no. 2.
Went there last weekend. Stayed in Prestonsburg, toured immediate area, and had some roadside day of, picked corn. The micro in the motel work perfecto, so tasty. Enjoyed the area.
Melody you did better than I would ever do on that lookout! I'm terribly afraid of heights! I remember when Shane showed the lookout when it had snow on it! I was afraid for him! Lol! Good to see it in nice weather! Y'all stay safe and God bless!
What a phenomenal project! I remember traveling on school buses from Williamson to Pikeville to play them in football. Believe me back then no one enjoyed the ride coming or going with all the zig zags, up and downs on old US 119. How the WPA could pour and set concrete on those 7% plus grades I'll never know. Some 50 years later, the engineering job on that mountain is impressive as well. You guy do good work.
I used to live in Williamson for about 25 years and hated that ride to Pikeville. It was amazing seeing the progress of blown out mountains. I thought it weird that a highway is referred to a four-lane.
Thanks for showing, I was there in Pikeville 4 years ago to trade vehicles at Walters Chevrolet, I didn’t realize that overlook was there thanks again! We appreciate what y’all do!
Great video ! I have a lot of fond memories traveling through West Va.... My wife and I always seemed to find ourselves stopping for gas and snacks between Sutton and Gassaway and we always enjoyed the beautiful areas along the way.
I went to college in Pikeville and lived close to that overlook. I used to go there with friends all the time. I don't remember it making me queasy back then, but it does now! lol I am originally from Matewan, West Virginia. I remember thinking Pikeville was "the big city." Since then, I've lived in all sorts of towns, big and small. Funny how life goes.
Great stuff guys, as always. Looky here, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO INSERT YOURSELVES IN THE FRAME!!!!! Or maybe this will make it plainer, it's good to see pics of who we're traveling with!!!! Or maybe this will ring through, we get enough talking heads and disembodied voices on all of the news, analysis, and conspiracy channels, it's nice to see real people talking to us. Ya don't have to be in every view but being in the views on occasion does give us a sense of presence and some proportion for what we're looking at. Just thinking out loud here. But then the wife and I can do that at Machiavelli's as well... IF we have someone to talk to! ;-)
Beautiful. I’m from Salyersville Ky. Been to Pikeville many times.
Very nice view! Reminds me of Fayetteville, W.V. where I've been like the overlook part.

Beautiful view. This reminded me of a good old Earl Scruggs banjo tune called the Pike County Breakdown
Pikeville downtown was quite nice too
