I was going to say that I just did Rhythm of Love by the Plain White Tees but now I'm seeing that that was about 3 weeks ago... I should get on another video. And yeah, I think he's about to go away though, I just filed an ethics report with the BHS.
Hope you enjoy this week's release. It's a barbershop classic! :) Please *share* the video if you enjoyed it and *leave a comment* to let me know your thoughts! If you'd like to support future videos like this one, you can do so here: patreon.com/trudbol Thanks!
***** Now THAT'S what I've been trying to ask you for the last half an hour! For some reason, I can't comment on Patreon 8-( . So, just one boater, huh? But I like the assorted striped ties. And I LOVE the final chord! It's insane, and it's perfect. This one's going on my "feel-good songs" list.
Julien, your ability to create such rich sounding harmonies with four voices never ceases to amaze. I've been in 50+ person choruses and most don't sound as as chordally full as these a capella arrangements. Beautiful as always.
Thank you August, that's a cool comment to read! I do have an advantage over regular quartets, in the sense that blend is not an issue when singing with yourself. I think a thing I sometimes miss in barbershop quartet recordings I hear is a lack of depth in the sound, things are sung a little too bright without vibrato, so the voice sounds a little more tense and less full. Having a darker and fuller sound gives it a kick, but you get less "ring".
Sang along to this for a music honors society project recently, sang the lead part in bass and now my band teacher wants me to start my own barbershop quartet!
How has this been sitting here on TH-cam for five years and I only now found it. What a terrific musician you are. This was an absolutely fantastic 94 seconds of art.
***** Your too good at that stuff to totally abandon it so I hope you'll reconsider. Hopefully, you'll mix in the older stuff with newer tunes. After all, if you aren't being true to your artistry, what's the point anyway, right? When you're doing what you like, your enthusiasm shines through...;)
when the song was first written, it was originally a lullaby sung to put children to sleep. The most popular version was sang by the chordettes back in the fifties and shortly after became a standard in barbershop. you can find this song in the polecat 2 book along with other songs such as hello mary lou and I've been working on the railroad. you have come a long way from when you first started multitracking but practice will always make perfect.
Thanks! I wish these old tunes performed as well as more recent songs, but unfortunately not. I don't know if I should continue in this direction, given the investment these videos require. Sigh.
Julien, you are always doing such a wonderful job with the songs that you sing and in a magical way you change our mood and make us see our lives in a more optimistic way!!! We greatly appreciate your work and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!
Using you as an inspiration I've been chatting with a few internet friends about the possibility of putting a small band together strictly over the internet. We have never met in person and most of us probably never will. I want to thank you for helping to put the music back in me. It was missing for a lot of years.
Right on! I'm always a little hesitant to release old songs now, these videos just don't perform well on TH-cam, not nearly as well as video game themes or more recent music. I have to take that into account, given the hours I put into making these TH-cam freebies.
This was the first barbershop tag I ever listened to, it was my barbershop gateway; such good memories. Great job with it as always, your buttery voice goes perfectly with the oldies ;)
Didn't get the notification of your new video! Almost missed it. Thank you for bringing back this old nice tune. After all of this years I still get impressed by your perfect control of the pitch, especially in this jumpy bass. It's always a pleasure to listen to your fantastic performances.
Thanks Mirko! I'm surprised you haven't sung this one, it would really work with your voice and I'm sure you'd come up with a clever visual. Thanks for the kind comment. :)
i really enjoy everything about your channel. you can sing entirely solo, or with a group, or a partner, and it's always really great. and you have a mini-show in the video of you interacting with yourself. and you're animated. and it's all just so great. i look forward to your future videos. marvelous and exemplary and adjectives and stuff. great job, Julien!
Thanks for bringing up my mood at the end of the day with this one, Julien. The tag was just fantastic, way to hold out that note on lead! :D Looking forward to the next one. All the best, Josh
Happy to take song requests from my supporters on Patreon, this is how I continue making all these TH-cam a cappella freebies: patreon.com/trudbol Thanks for understanding! :)
Ahah, what a perfect rendition! Congrats Julien! Also: when crossing eyes while watching this video, à la "Magic Eye", you become some sort of barbershop hydra. And that, my friend, is all the more impressive.
Sure. I currently have a few other requests lined up from my patrons, which I give priority to, but when I get a chance, I'll be happy to try your song out. :)
Could you do "la brabançonne" please ? I'm from Belgium and it could be really great ! Pleaaaaaaaaase ? Thanks ! Of course, if you can, you're not obliged
I'm more than happy to take song requests from friends & fans who support my work on Patreon: patreon.com/trudbol You are welcome to join and post your song suggestions. My last 20 videos have all been requests from my patrons. :)
I always sing from sheet music, either tunes I purchased or songs I arranged / transcribed. I provide links to the sheet music in the product pages of my website. All the info is in the video description
Noooo what were they thinking with that final chord??? After such a fun chord progression beforehand it was the perfect opportunity to end with a proper bang. At the very least bring the tenor up to the 3rd.
***** yeah you're right... I think my problem might be that it actually ends on the tonic, and that it goes down at the end, it should go up. I have to figure this out once I get home, can't do it without a piano.
Love it. These older songs really play to the strengths of your voice.
Thanks Dan, I appreciate it. Time for you to release something too, wouldn't you say? :)
PS: Sorry about that Richard troll of yours, what a nutcase.
I was going to say that I just did Rhythm of Love by the Plain White Tees but now I'm seeing that that was about 3 weeks ago... I should get on another video. And yeah, I think he's about to go away though, I just filed an ethics report with the BHS.
***** Jullien, would you be able to make a video of your vocal range? would be awesome to see what you can do :D
+Darren Mackay That would be awesome. But it'd probably take hours to go through that many notes.
Everything he sings is absolutely fantastic.
It's impossible to be gloomy when listening to a song like this. Great job, as always! :)
Thanks buddy! :)
What a catchy tune! I've never heard this one before. Love it!
Thanks Redette! There's also a female arrangement of this classic, I think you should give it a shot!
I was disappointed that you didn't do the key change. :(
No matter though! You did an awesome job on this song, Julien! Lovin' it! :D
Bum bum bum bum bum bum. ♪
My thoughts exactly. :)

I sang this song with my choir freshman year!! Thank you for this throwback ❤️!
As Usual, an amazing performance, Julien!
Thanks! :)
I'm 13 and I enjoyed this.
Those ending chords are some of the greatest performances of harmony ever captured!
To my mind, this is possibly one of your best yet, Julen!
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. - Thank you!
(Shared it on FB and Twitter.)
Julien, your ability to create such rich sounding harmonies with four voices never ceases to amaze.

Beautiful as always.
thank you so much. really means a lot to me

Your songs never fail to impress me man, you're an inspiration!
Thank you Joseph, much appreciated! :)

I did this in my Youth In Harmony concert! I absolutely loved performing the baritone part- my favorite!
You are perfection! Love you in older tunes. As has been said (often and justifiably), your voice is perfectly suited to the older stuff.
Thanks, I appreciate it. :)
Unfortunately, these older songs just don't do well on TH-cam, I don't think I'm going to continue in that direction.
***** Your too good at that stuff to totally abandon it so I hope you'll reconsider. Hopefully, you'll mix in the older stuff with newer tunes. After all, if you aren't being true to your artistry, what's the point anyway, right? When you're doing what you like, your enthusiasm shines through...;)
What a finish, awesome.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! :)
Love this song ! Our quartet sang this many years ago, always an audience favorite.

I think you are at your very best with these old, classic barbershop quartet numbers like this. Excellent, Mr Trudbol!
Thank you for that awesome comment, you made my day. :)
I'm slowly working my way through your channel.
This is my favorite yet. Metronomic with very little
vibrato. Love your rich voice.

Brilliant as usual.
Thanks, Master Ofu! :)
Wow! All four of you are such great singers! Such a rare treat! 😀😀😀😀😀
Your bass tones are so pure, they are a cake with a cherry on top for the ear.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Pass it on! :)
always
Awesome new release! This is the kind of music that I keep coming back for!

I did not know this song. Is very funny and the final harmony sounds marvelous! Congratulations :)
Thanks! :)
Me and my brother can sing in perfect harmony to this song, and it scares people. It is so fun!

AMAZING ENDING!

Thanks Antonio! I sell audio learning tracks, if you and your quartet friends would like to learn a song from my TH-cam channel: julienneel.com :)
I want to marry your voice.
Your voice speaks to my old soul and you in general just speak to me lol I bet you sound even more amazing in person 😭🖤
such a cute video!
Dat overtone at the end.

Awesome! :)
Thanks you. :)
Background music when searching for Delta flights.
Lol
Brilliant
Julien, can you do California Dreamin' next?
Tres bien fait, Julien!!! Excuse my French. :)
Merci ! :)
This is amazing! However, no one is lingering in the Delta once the sun sets. You are running from mosquitoes! 😀
Love it! Good work :)
Thanks CL! :)
your best😄😄😄
Wow, awesome video yet again! Julien, where do you find most of your acapella arrangements? I'm interested.
Thanks! I always put the links to the arrangements in the video descriptions.
In German we say: super geil !!! Im a Member from the german Barbershop Choir named Bad Boys
Жюльен, ты реально хорош! Молодец!
Hey!!! Nice Channel! I have just discovered you! (I was searching "Barbershop Quartet Simpsons") :))) YOU'R AWESOME!!!
Thanks! Plenty more videos on my channel. :)
Julien, could you do a barbershop version of Puttin on the Ritz?
Sure. I currently have a few other requests lined up from my patrons, which I give priority to, but when I get a chance, I'll be happy to try your song out. :)
I still think Istanbul is more of an earwig than this, BUT still Great as ever!!! Keep it up!
Thanks a lot! :)
Could you do "la brabançonne" please ? I'm from Belgium and it could be really great ! Pleaaaaaaaaase ?

This was fantastic you remind me of the Simpsons shop quartet
Holy ending cadence batman!
You are great!!! ;)
Amazing!Now for contrast,listen to Thelonious Monk's version.
A short one, but my buddies and I want to give it a try! Do you sell the tracks? Couldn't find it on your site.
+Michael Tharp Never mind. This one is readily available on the web. Love your take on it though -- both the look and the sound.
Better than the original.
What microphone do you have?
I recorded the bass with a NT1-A Rode and the other three parts with a ZoomH4N.
Have you considered recording the Yellow Coffin tag?
you need to do walk like a man by frankie valli
I liked the part where there's the shelter of the NiiiIIIiiiIIIiiiIIIiiiIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIight
Awesome! That part of the song is called the "tag". My favorite too. :)
Do you have any scores of pieces youve performed I could buy from you?
I always sing from sheet music, either tunes I purchased or songs I arranged / transcribed. I provide links to the sheet music in the product pages of my website. All the info is in the video description
Noooo what were they thinking with that final chord??? After such a fun chord progression beforehand it was the perfect opportunity to end with a proper bang. At the very least bring the tenor up to the 3rd.
The tenor *is* singing the third on the final chord. The chord is F, with bass on F3 and lead on F4, baritone on C4 and tenor on A4.
I think the ending is perfect
***** yeah you're right... I think my problem might be that it actually ends on the tonic, and that it goes down at the end, it should go up. I have to figure this out once I get home, can't do it without a piano.
Ze Rubenator It can go either way friend; there's always more than one closure chord.
BeenieBomb yes, and I really didn't like this one.
Bass needs a hit of oxygen before diving into this one :D
what's the song name? :)
Coney Island Baby, I think.
J'aime t'es cravates :3
Merci ! :)
