    • @mykectown
      @mykectown 4 ปีที่แล้ว +91

      @Eric F. Jr I'm trying to figure out how anything you just said makes a lick of sense. How am I "hating" on Jay-Z but defending "hating" by saying I don't listen to him? I don't listen to Jay-Z cuz I don't like his music. That's not hating. It's called "telling the truth about an opinion." I wasn't really talking about what he said. I talked about the way he rapped. And, for someone who doesn't care for him based on the albums I've heard, he surprised me here. I even asked for examples of other songs where he sounds like this cuz I'd like to hear them. How the hell is that hate?

    • @369pendulum
      @369pendulum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @Eric F. Jr He's never talked like this and rapped so good at the same time. 444 had a similar subject matter, but his flow and rapping weren't as crisp as they are on this project. And i could care less for rap fans that don't like or don't listen to Jay Z.

    I really enjoyed the album despite having no real idea wtf Elec is referring to most of the time.
    I haven’t been on the hype train for a Jay Elec album so when this came along I just took it for what it was. The fact Hov is one of my favourites just makes the album better for me.
    It’s been on heavy rotation these last few days.

    • @369pendulum
      @369pendulum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Bro i literally feel the same way almost word for word, and i think that's what allows us to enjoy the project. I never viewed Jay Elect as some god mc nor did i give a fuck if he dropped another album, so i wasn't really comparing this to anything and pleasantly surprised to hear Hov all over the album. I knew a little of what he was talking about on this album so i was hyped to hear someone talking about it in raps.

    “APDTA” is the most beautiful song I’ve heard in a long time. For Myke, the Jay Z you may be looking for is sprinkled around in his discography because “if rhymes sold I’d be lyrically Talib Kweli” but he was a business. “You Must Love Me”, “Can I Live”, “Where Have You Been” “D’Evils”, “Lost One”, “Blueprint (Momma Loves Me)”, “Heaven”, “Lucky Me” to name a few and of course most of 4:44.

    • @jwood8769

      What album is “ Heaven” on? I thought I knew every jay song apparently I don’t lol. But your right and his guest verse in Dead Prez “Hell Yeah”, Kanye west “ Diamonds from Sierra Leon” “Never Let me Down” “ Beach Chair” “No Hook” “FUTW” and nvm as I’m writing this I now realize that “Heaven” is on the “Magna Carter” album 😂😂. And his verses on “ Watch The Throne” is very in this lane as well. “you must love me” I’m about to make a Jay playlist lol

    I remember in 2012 when Jay Electronica released a track list of 15 tracks for his Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) album (google it). That is the album I wanted to hear. I wonder why he never released that album. It has all the just blaze production missing on “a written testimony” and it was gonna be a Jay Electronica led album not this Jay Z featuring Jay Electronica project that we got. It felt like Jay Z wanted to get off his common sense and talib kweli bars fully in a way he’s never done before and doing this via jay electronica was the way he felt he could do it. I wish it was just called a joint project like watch the throne and then jay electronica releases Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) afterwards (I hope he still does)

      @Big John Boatright Agreed honestly should've just put Jay's name in the title, I would've been fine with that. Yes it's disappointing we don't get just him but the fact that we get an album instead of just songs here and there like he's done over the past decade I''ll take it. Still better than most albums out today just based of lyrics and content.

    Am I the only one who liked the album for what it was and didn't feel like Jay Elec was lacking lyrically. The only verse he spit that was kinda lazy was the song where he kept rhyming body with party. I like that Hov was on it a lot and I don't think that he washed him. As crazy as it sounds, they both were rappin' about the same shit. Jay-Z hasn't bragged really on an album since Magna Carta. Outside of there not being any hard drums on the record, I was satisfied with it.

    • @bluntedafterdarkpod
      @bluntedafterdarkpod 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Me I loved it....they are kinda contradicting Jay z has been a 5% er since magna carta. Jay Elec has been with the NOI for the past 10 years. I really need people to do real research before they review, and not also put others input into your opinion. Also I believe Jay Elec's goal was to bring attention to the NOI because Of Mr. Farrakhan's ban from the net.

      If anything takes 10 years it'll disappoint and the problem with J electronica is he doesn't have that much material, so if he has about 12 songs in his catalog everything is amazing but that's all his work from 10 years it's not fair to compare that to a rappers who has 50+ songs.
      They based expectations on a small catalogue.
      And let's not forget that j electronica was on control too. We only remember Kendrick and Big Shane

    I feel like if you don’t understand the message of the album it becomes just an okay album. If y’all did a lyrical breakdown in conjunction to the sonical critique, it would definitely take on a whole different meaning. Picking it apart piece by piece isn’t doing it justice as a complete piece of art.
    Also, interesting that you mention Travis Scott’s feature replacing Kanye, it makes the rift between Jay Z and Kanye that much more apparent. The heavy Islam influence in this album compared to Kanye being heavily influenced by Christianity brings to mind more questions about their relationship and how they’ve both individually evolved over time.

      Facts jay z probably the most personal rapper. That’s his appeal, he’s remained relevant all these years for 2 reasons:
      1. He always embraces new hot artists.
      2. He raps about his real personal life, from his drug days to being married while most rappers just rap about them same 4-5 years they were in the street life.

    The moment I heard Hov rapping first on this album I understood alot about Jay Elect. From having Hov on here 8 times, to the 10 year wait, to having another rapper start off your debut album….it told me Jay Elect might not be as confident in his work as we think AND he is uncomfortable with being critiqued….I still enjoyed the album, I think that their are alot of things that I need to go back and read and do research on because in Hip Hop I dont think we had someone talk about the FOI as open as they did on this album. So alot of the bars I didnt or understand so it will take some time to really digest but I also think people had unreasonable expectations for it and adding Hov on it put the bar of expectations into outer space.
