The most awkward I've ever had is a customer came through the register with a small bunch of flowers to buy. Very obviously I jokingly said "aww are these for me?" I expected her to say 'nah they're for so and so's birthday'. the usual response. But instead she said "No they're for my dead husbands cemetary plot." Cringiest moment of my life.
@@Nubex. Personally, I think it’s “personally I think it probably would be “hey Mc double what’s the stupidest question someone has ever asked you?” IDK tho I’m not him” I don’t know though, I’m not him.
I remember early during the pandemic, I was walking down a grocery aisle. They had implemented one way aisles and the store was really busy. At the end of the aisle there was this old lady and her daughter along one side, taking their sweet time. I dithered to give them a little more time without making it awkward, but after a minute or so the people behind ME were getting impatient. The aisle was like 6ft wide, so I thought I’d just slide by the mother/daughter duo facing away from them. As I made my move the daughter lunged across the aisle and grabbed my wrist, asking “what the hell are you doing?!” So now her and I are standing about a foot apart facing each other with her grasping my wrist and berating me for being too close, while everyone else just cringed on my behalf. The mother looked super embarrassed too. I calmly asked her if she thought grabbing my arm and turning me towards her was safer and if she thought such an aggressive action was likely to convince me to her side. She kept arguing so I shook her off and went on my way, but definitely a cringey moment. People are serious about their personal space, even if it’s 6-ft away…
If an employee drops my sandwich or anything like that at a subway (hasn't happened yet), I'm pretty sure I won't get mad. I'd be just as surprised as them but just shrug and be like "Hey it happens." I mean so long as they're able to re-make it, I got no reason to be angry personally, and the embarrassment of accidentally dropping a customer's sandwich is enough punishment imo.
Worked at CVS overnight in 2012, there was this guy that would always come in at 5AM. Diligent worker with a good job, always bought a snack, a couple energy drinks, and some smokes. One morning his card declined, then another declined, then another declined. I knew it was weird, as did he. Few days later he comes and gets his usual, turns out some overseas identity thief ripped upwards of 60K from his bank accounts. He got it all covered and refunded, but god damn that is brutal.
Hey Madison, has any one of your customers been so mad that they actually came into the kitchen? (Or like where you make the sandwiches?) Thanks for reading Mason :)
Sandwich artist for 3 years, the only time customers have had a fight in the shop was when one was being an ass to me or one of my colleagues and the other was sticking up for us. Still really awkward, but at least it's pretty damn wholesome. Even if it was unnecessary or not, bless those people who stick up for fast food staff
as a fast food veteran, we had a fair few fights in or around the store ourselves but only once did it turn so violent that we were legitimately scared, so we called the cops and grabbed the nearest objects we could find and blocked all the access paths to the behind the counter area
Former McDonald’s worker from way back in the day. Fights happening in the store was not that uncommon. One girl had a problem with the girl running the register so slapped her. They start to fight then guys get involved. We come from the back with grill scrapers in our hands. That fight stopped pretty quickly.
When I got my debit card I went to Popeyes to get food for my sisters and I because it was in walking distance and delivery fees are $10. So I paid in the Popeyes with my debit card and I’ve never paid with it before so I swiped so many times without getting it right, I flipped my card so many times and it was so awkward. Ever since then I’ve paid for stuff to be delivered instead of walking to a place and having to possibly face that same situation again
When I was working at subway a dude asked for black peppers so I put black pepper on his sandwich and he got mad at me. Turn out he wanted black olives and forgot what they were called. When I said I was sorry he proceeded to say “you knew what I was talking about” and tells me to make him another sandwich. Making that second sandwich was one of the longest minutes of my life. He was staring into my soul while assembled that bad boi 😂
There was one awkward situation I encountered as a customer, One day, I went to get some Macdonalds, bought it, paid the cashier. The cashier made a mistake and I paid like 10.40 dollars, exact amount, When the cashier was typing in the amount needed, he accidentally put like 20 dollars and was freaking out. He kept looking around. I figured what happened when he gave me back 10.20 dollars which means the entire meal costed" 20 cents. We looked at each other awkwardly and just went away. It was good having a meal that was almost free though.
Bruh he probably got fired for that shortage or given a warning... i think we only get three before we are dismissed. Please be honest next time, we appreciate it because the min wage employee takes the slack which kinda sucks for them
Had a few funny and awkward things happen in my time, small girl being asked by one older man what she learned in school today and her coming back with not to talk to strangers, a customer being mad there was blood in their steak, one being explained to that rare chicken is not safe to eat or order, someone asking for a deep fried steak, being asked to cook something with no oil, no seasoning and in chef mike, one guy ordering a kilo t-bone and getting so drunk he wandered out and never came back... kitchens can be very interesting.
For me it was working the register at McDonald’s in the ghetto of south central LA. One night around 8-9pm (pre covid like 2019), I was working the front register and it was a pretty slow night for walk ins so it was mostly chilling till these two girls come in they order their food and chill at the table with the high chairs and they’re chilling there for about maybe 40 minutes or so and this group of guys come in looking sketch (all around 17-19), but nonetheless I help them place their order and get their stuff like a normal order. They head for the exit/entrance and I see them stop , one of them puts his bag of food down and is saying something to his homies and looking at the girls direction. He lifts his pants and walks over to their direction and takes off on the light skin and she gets up from her chair and starts fighting back but she already got pieced up so she was leaking but as soon as they started fighting I went to my manager on the floor and she started phoning the police but as usual they where not where to be found. They were fighting for a minute or two and after that they left as they knew we were calling the police. Without words we made eye contact and I can see the mess on her face and she it was pretty bloody, she begins to walk to the counter and without hesitation I handed her a stack of napkins and she took them without a word. She wiped it off, threw the napkins on the floor and walked off with her friend. I think she was outside around the area cause the police found her, but no word on if they caught the guy. For me, they would’ve been from different sets (meaning gangs), some fucked up ass toxic relationship or just some crazy ex. Idk , but I was not going to get jumped for someone who probably would’ve recorded me instead of helping me if I was in that situation. Idk about this situation being awkward , but it was crazy and random.
Maurice, why don't you bring the baking tray over to the food prep area so you're not relying on the paper to hold the sandwich when you carry it(which you say causes drops). It's what they do in Ireland.
Malala have you ever had a customer that tried to steal stuff from your subway? If that was already asked then have you ever had a customer that was not able to communicate well for some reason and took a long time to get their order?
