My son faced road rage on his way to work a few months back. The auto driver kept honking but since the road was narrow, my son couldn't give space, this man blocked my son's scooter and even before he could react or realise, that man gave several blows on my son's face, resulting in bleeding. My son did register a case with the police but nothing has been done nor the culprit booked. Hence, not expecting anything from the police who is supposed to maintain law and order.
Its extremely traumatic for parents to hear their child got assaulted. I hope you forget the incident eventually because the world is a much better place in reality and such nutcases are the minority.
Why would anyone be surprised this is happening? Driving standards in India are very low, driver education is extremely poor, and law enforcement is very lax. No one is taught not to beep constantly, no one is taught driver courtesy and consideration for others on the road, and bad behaviour on the roads is not punished. Road rage, and road fatalities, are the inevitable result. Drink-driving is also a major problem in India!
But that is the same condition in *every* city - of roads, traffic rules etc. I have not really faced this even in "uncivilized" Delhi...and I am on the road a lot - of course some gaali-galauj sometimes but generally that's it...
Highly educated senior executives have road rage. Back in 2021, it took an hour to cross Silk Board Junction and everyone took the BTM Layout shortcut. A VP in Accenture threatened to break my windshield because my stationary car had apparently rammed his bumper. I showed him that the engine wasn't even idling, and the handbrake was pulled, but to no avail
I follow/remember these whenever I step into my car: 1. Understand that scooty people and Yulu drivers (mostly delivery folks) have ZERO road sense and can come in front of my car, anywhere, anytime. If they hit my car, it is ALWAYS my fault as I have a car and they are poor, ah! 2. The nexus of BBMP, BWSSB will ensure we are always entangled in this continuous development (read unplanned development and destruction) spree for a better tomorrow (achhe din), which in the last 15 years of myself in Bengaluru, is yet to arrive, so its my responsibility to be aware of the sudden potholes, humps etc. and drive carefully. 3. There are four distinct kinds of traffic signals I've observed here - a. Proper signal which is visible from far with a countdown timer (a rare breed). b. Signal which is hidden from plain sight, playing hide-n-seek with no countdown timer, so an element of surprise along with the cop awaits you! c. Signal opening for literally 10 seconds whereas the other one opens for 40 (Sony world signal Koramangala, coming from Maharaja side). d. No signal as the area is extremely convoluted (basically a pure mess by whoever planned), so people are driving using mutual understanding! In all these cases, I try to be SLOW and watchful and forget that I am part of the rat race with a million others, so let them win and take the trophy! 4. Chhapris are everywhere in India, they can ride a Thar or an Activa. And then there are people in extreme hurry as if they will miss the most important event of their life, so I let them pass. If they block the road doing a wheelie or some other stunt, I try staying patient as an altercation of any form never ends well. I usually dream of ramming and running over all these degenerates on a Hummer, but as I said, I restrict these thoughts in my dreams only. 5. Try avoiding late night travel within the city, as much as possible. There is no point in becoming a keyboard warrior later by showing your rights, sharing your angst across all social media platforms, blaming administration after an event has happened. 6. Never trust an auto's side indicators. They will blink right, swerve towards the left, then go straight with the blinker on. Lastly, always remember, we are in a country where an underage driver kills two innocent lives with his Porsche travelling at 160+ kmph and gets bail, so law and order are just for the privileged class in this country (exceptions do exist though). Since I don't belong to those echelons of the society, nor do I own a Maserati or have the power to change the system, I try to remain vigilant, calm and drive with a no-rat-race mentality. You may call me lucky, but I personally never experienced a single road rage in the last 3 years while driving my car here in Bengaluru.
True i do the same. If someone suddenly stops and parks his vehicle in front of me. I just take the reverse give an indicator and move ahead without saying anything. Because i know it's a waste of my time.
- Narrow roads - Poor quality of roads with lot of potholes - No one follows traffic rules - High number of vehicles - Mobile usage during driving - No signalling while turning cars - Poor traffic management
Driving taught by friends and family - I believe it should be changed and license given by doing number 8, it should be real world like here in the EU where you are taken in the real road traffic and asked to redo classes if you fail

Breaking traffic rules and poor suburban road infrastructure is the main cause. Those who follow the traffic laws well are foolishly punished. This is absurd!
Which is valid, we don't need other state people to come to our Banaglore and take our jobs that belong to our local children who can be trained to do that job.

I have not heard a single advertisement of police appealing, I had faced one such instance, had submitted video on twitter and one police called me saying other person has come with lawyer and wants to put case that I showed hand sign so he stopped on the middle of electronic city flyover to ask me why i showed hand , when in reality nothing of that sort happened , in a way i felt he was corrupt and was kind of threatening me instead of taking action on the person with such clear video evidence submitted , instead he told me to reply on the post saying police has taken action on this , that very day onwards I stopped trusting the police !!! I know they protect people. However, I would advise you to reach out to Police only if absolutely necessary !!!
Regional feeling is one of the factor for road rage to be considered. If they see registration of different state vehicles they are coming with full force to damage.
Massive road taxes for no roads Police who are only interested in making money through fines rather than doing actual traffic management Fruatrating traffic, getting honked at all lead to people getting angry.
Reasons for the rise maybe following: 1) Lack of strong disciplinary actions by traffic police. 2) Not knowing basics of the regional language. 3) Traffic makes everyone rush & reach their destination. 4) Lack of common sense & patience is main reason.
That's one cause, but bad driver education, poor testing procedures, lack of civic sense, and lax law enforcement are the main causes. Bad driving is a problem all across India, not just in Bangalore, which is why India has the highest rates of road fatalities in the world!
Day by day we Indians are loosing civic sense and duty as a responsible citizen . Root cause is this . How come China with second highest population with congested roads and traffic gridlocks follows traffic rules and no road rage . Civic sense should be developed by citizens of India which we are lacking way too much by so called young citizens of India
Any normal human being will rightfully defend themselves from law breakers including some very corrupt gavvers. The law should apply to all citizens right!
I experienced road rage today in bright daylight during my commute to the office. This person was riding a tractor. First he was abusing an XUV guy who did overtake. Behind was my vehicle I also bypassed his vehicle. It was such a traffic and this guy got down from the tractor and started attacking my vehicle in the traffic. He kept hitting my vehicle with his first and tried to open the door and smash the window. He did it for quite a long time when my vehicle was stuck in traffic. When I started shooting on my mobile he stopped attacking and started shooting me instead. This is so horrifying that we come to a different city to work, pay the taxes and offer with no safety.
There was a cop a few feet away from the junction, however the road was so crowded that I couldn't find a space to park and complain. I was also scared to get out of my car.
That’s one of the reasons why people are frustrated. Nobody would follow traffic rules Bengaluru has no space left to expand yet there’s outpouring of migrants which irk the locals . It wasn’t like that before and there’s culture clash more than emotional and mental distress . Think there should be migrant control out in place here
The only solution is leaving Bengaluru for a better place as the city is overburdened with limited infra. There are many other places in Karnataka which have the potentional to become Mega cities. The govt should decentralise the development across Karnataka rather than putting all the eggs in a single basket.
Bengaluru's crumbling infrastructure is creating ridiculous traffic jams. This in turn is having a mass depression effect across drivers, be it two wheelers/autos or cars. This is particularly high among daily earners as they get their revenue potential reduced. Add poor driving manners & haphazard driving to this mix, bravo .... escalations/easy trigger & high number of road rages. Regional language politics is not helping either!
@@nagamanjunath2102 yes I did. Apparently physical assault is a non cognizable offence in India. No matter what happens DO NOT get out of your 4 wheeler if you are in one. Roll up your windows, lock the doors! If you are riding a 2 wheeler, if the situation escalates abandon your vehicle, take refuge & Call the police in both the situations. Once the police come these miscreants run because they know that they are at fault.
The one thing which is missing from road users is anticipation of how others will change a lane or make a turn. Things are taken for granted and to top it up incessant honking of yellow boards
It’s only lack of lane discipline that’s causing all this we Bangaloreans swerve left right centre and bikers will fill every 20inch gap available on a crowded road that causes anxiety for car drivers who get confused if they should hit clutch or breaks. If just implement strict lane discipline a ton of issues will get resolved.

P.s - I do not condone violence or road rage. I have been a victim of it as well.
Honking unnecessary has become a major problem. I see people honking when the front vehicle is also stuck in slow moving traffic and the behind vehicle wants the front vehicle to give way for him. I think it is basically lack of knowledge or some ego problem....i face this issue everyday on the road...i just ignore and move on since it is impossible to correct everyone on the road.
Not even a single good news we hear from Bangalore Only traffic jams, road rage , aggressive people , anti Hindi goons , sky rocketing rents , water logging , frauds etc etc . Sad to see such pathetic condition of this wonderful city.
There are many people who live in the city but don't wish for the good of it, antisocial people can be one of the reasons for this. But also Bangalore I think is the biggest city in India right now, the number of migrants here are exponentially high and a census/survey has not been done to account for their presence.
that is because people expect the city to be perfect and everyone is there only to serve them. And when they get to know that the city has not met their expectations, they tend to express their dissatisfaction on social media and point out only the bad things of it. And as Bengaluru was getting popular for the hospitality before many migrated to this city and now they are disappointed about it spreading hate towards the state and the people. The only thing they know is to show case the city as bad but never know why only they are facing this issue while others are not. Come out of the perfect world imagination and you will start to appreciate the small things. Of-course there are few bad things but know that if that is all you can think about a city, the city will make sure to meet those bad expectations.
We have less patience, zero decorum ,zero courtesy for fellow citizens. If I give a pass out of courtesy everyone lines up and I will end up standing in the same place for next 10 minutes. But no one wants to reciprocate the same gesture to me.
There is another variable, the majority of road rage cases are wantedly done to extort money from outside state or non KA vehicle owners. Many documented videos depicting this very variable are well documented on TH-cam and X.

@@gklnth187 for that govt should put cameras everywhere and put fine . Bigger vehicles need to drive more carefully . Should not overtake by cutting 2 wheelers way...if two-wheelers decide to go one behind the other in the middle of the lane and maintain a safe distance then car people cannot go anywhere that much traffic will increase .
My advice is, try to meditate while driving,it will keep you calm....& also you will not feel the fatigue of traffic...which i am following for than 15 years....
I urge every car owner to drive responsibly & with patience as we share more space on road than pedestrians and two wheelers. Over time we should learn the local tongue which is more advantageous. Most of these road rages can be mitigated with above actions from our end. Our casual approach on road triggers a lot of negative behavior by people riding around our car. I drive a car everyday during day and night as & when I have to go out, from a different state. I accept it as a part of driving in city and I don't blame others in most circumstances and engage in honking, speeding, overtaking in inappropriate way. I settle things in a calmer tone.
I'm pretty sure everybody is reacting to the consequence but no one seems to question why the car drivers seem to neglect that they hit the bikes and just drive away, then use an excuse that there is family in the Vehicle but that didn't stop them from colliding with 2 wheelers.
My Observation: part of this road rage comes from - moving too slow, No lane discipline, finding gaps to fill in- by the following type of vehicles- BMTC Buses, Autos, Two wheelers, Cargo LMVs, Cars with too many distractions, and shear negligence. I would choose moving too slow when there is an empty road ahead, and lack of presence of mind on the road. Most people don't look at other drivers to understand where they want to go. This increases confusion sub consciously which leads to slowing down the vehicle. Simply understanding and moving would solve the issue. Not putting an indicator is only a problem when the other person depends only on the indicator to see where the entire vehicle is moving. One has to look at the person piloting the vehicle to understand where that person wants to go, take a second to align oneself on the lane and keep moving in sync. I see rarely few do that, usually good cab drivers and some auto drivers. Communication between the vehicles is important. Simply pouncing upon a guy who just wanted to turn right or left isn't going to solve anything to anybody anywhere, causing only more vehicles to pipe up behind one. I request the media to give in suggestions of solutions to this rather than just reporting the incidents as well. People see you guys and they need to understand what they can do personally to improve our commute everyday. Let's have no ego, no status, no violence, no misunderstandings and no accidents like Bengaluru roads were sometime before. We need to educate people
I try to leave early from Home and at times from office to beat the traffic, however unfortunately I have also face the situation mentioned in the video, Car drivers can be the gentleman in traffic situations avoiding cutting the traffic or impulsive overtaking
Which state are you from? Don't post BS simply because you hate the whole state.. every city in India is facing one or the other problem.. extreme population is the main issue in every city
No one who wants to harm others will watch this so no deep breaths 😊 Suggestion: Govt should mandate BH series for all vehicles including already registered ones.
The one and only thing that I have followed while driving in Bangalore is to be extra careful. In fact, I follow this everywhere. Once you are outside the confines of your home, just know that you can die because of any incident. I follow this while on road, in park, in elevators, everywhere.
First and foremost, if driving license tests are made diligent and strict majority of these scenarios can be avoided. Youngsters coming from poor strata of our society, needs cultural adjustments in civility matters in metro cities.
Because of inaction of traffic police the wrong go unpunished and encouraged. This end up civilians taking it their hand. Its absolutely right thing to protect your belongings on road. Honking and needless use of high beam are just starting pointers of those.
I was almost attacked last weekend in Bangalore. Many are intolarant towards othertravelers & lacks sense on driving.Especially once they figure out, you don't have ground support or if you are not fluent in local language to fight back. Finally, I was forced to pay 2500/- for a wrong-lane movement done by a local's car. I had to oblige after 30 minutes as he isn't willing to come to the police station, and he gathered local support & force me to pay. As no police turn up after calling 112 even after 30-45 minutes. My aged father who came for a short visit for Dassara festival trip to mysure , couldn't withstand the trauma . Police is not taking strong actions, which makes these like frequent events. I also do have a car recording, but not sure how much it's worth once you follow up with the police. Most people convince you not to go police station and waste another set of money !
In chennai they made wearing a helmet compulsory which many take pride in but rash driving is very common. Governments are not going to fix basic governance issues. Building a flyover is what all parties propose as a solution to combat traffic, one can guess why they propose it. We as a nation are doomed.
First you report about the small shed getting built on the road. Who is approving all these?? Corruption at its peak. Even if it’s a temporary structure, it should not be built on the road.
The roads have become stress busters for some lately. As if the stress from daily work isn’t enough, the horrible conditions of the roads are perfectly cut out for outbursts. When you spend almost half of your day on the roads that’s bound to occur as a consequence.
Most of the time it’s not road rage. Looking at the videos you can clearly see they are local goon try to show power. I’m from Sarjapura area where most of cases reported.
Surprised to see the police commissioner taking this so lightly & proposing some very basic rules to avoid getting into road rage. Unless the police takes serious action to jail such offenders & there is fear of law, nothing will change in Bangalore or any other city. This is very normal for high heeled, cab drivers, auto drivers & politically well connected to disrupt others from using the road and claim ownership. In addition, there are lot of goonda elements who are trying to run this an extortion business by intimidating the law abiding road users. Driving on Indian roads, especially in Bangalore is risky and even educated people don't respect other Road users....& Just follow Jungle rule !!
Even though it is not my mistake, I ensure to not make get into any arguements. Especially, with auto and cab drivers they are very abusive and have a don't care attitude. They don't follow any lane discipline and have no idea of traffic rules. RTO - please stop taking bribes and passing the license test!
Despite being one of the best city in india and having the best roads if this is the situation of people then one should understand the standard of these people. 🙏🏼
I'm not sure how your survey was conducted. As far as I've seen in my circle, there was no one who has claimed to have been a victim of road rage. While, it has to be addressed, it's not right to project incorrect numbers and create panic among people. Road rage is common across all cities, the incidents are coming to light because of social media presence and media awareness of people who live in Bangalore. Any driver who drives responsibly and if they drive predictably, the chances of road rage will reduce drastically. The number of new drivers has drastically increased post COVID which could also trigger unexpected road rage among those who are either experienced or felt threatened. Another major cause is alcohol, impatience, restlessness, fatigue, recklessness while driving/riding, etc. Having a mindset that others might make a mistake would also help in defensive driving. Keeping distance from vehicles while in motion will help with having enough reaction time to stop or avoid crash.
Bad roads, too much traffic makes people loose their patience. Some of the people from local areas are full of pride, even a small issue is blown out of proportion by these people and police simply do not act
I think Bangalore natives are the best at driving as they have grown up there and well adapted to traffic of their city, I would say majorly the people who come to Bangalore for a few years from a smaller city would probably lack the driving skill required. Having said that, roads need to be improved further before we blame human beings driving.
Back in 80’s and 90’s there were no road rage in our beautiful Bangalore. Now from where and who brought the population into our city and the nonsense traffic jam? Traffic jams are all over the world in all major cities. These propaganda and comments are just made to defame our Bangalore. Yet people who comment bad about Bangalore are not ready to leave Bangalore. No gratitude towards the place where they live

Firstly ask corrupted cops why there are road rage incidents
In my humble opinion road rage is due to the emotional challenges faced by people in the city as a result of depression and frustration.
Yes, and it aggregated on road. The road conditions only worsens this
Exactly
The work is so demanding. I really feel for people who travel like 40kms to get to office
Breaking traffic rules and poor suburban road infrastructure is the main cause. Those who follow the traffic laws well are foolishly punished. This is absurd!

Massive road taxes for no roads
Police who are only interested in making money through fines rather than doing actual traffic management
Fruatrating traffic, getting honked at all lead to people getting angry.
How to make your daily commute less stressful: don't honk, always give way, say sorry and smile, be kind (no matter what you drive).
Reasons for the rise maybe following:
1) Lack of strong disciplinary actions by traffic police.
2) Not knowing basics of the regional language.
3) Traffic makes everyone rush & reach their destination.
4) Lack of common sense & patience is main reason.
Population in our city is exploding that's the main cause
That's one cause, but bad driver education, poor testing procedures, lack of civic sense, and lax law enforcement are the main causes.
Bad driving is a problem all across India, not just in Bangalore, which is why India has the highest rates of road fatalities in the world!

There are many people who live in the city but don't wish for the good of it, antisocial people can be one of the reasons for this. But also Bangalore I think is the biggest city in India right now, the number of migrants here are exponentially high and a census/survey has not been done to account for their presence.
Leave Bangalore then .
that is because people expect the city to be perfect and everyone is there only to serve them. And when they get to know that the city has not met their expectations, they tend to express their dissatisfaction on social media and point out only the bad things of it. And as Bengaluru was getting popular for the hospitality before many migrated to this city and now they are disappointed about it spreading hate towards the state and the people.
After seeing this video, I will never regret about my decision of leaving Bangalore. Hope the city returns to its golden period soon.
As I opened the comments section, I saw alarmingly sensible posts. Then I scrolled down enough to find the muck.
2:09 no appreciation for the charming host? 😊
We need to educate people
I am happy as I am a Mumbaikar, RR happens here as well but this is something insane..
I try to leave early from

Suggestion: Govt should mandate BH series for all vehicles including already registered ones.
BH na lawada. Kuthalo rod dimpi pampistaru. It's an union of States not a single country.
Lack of discipline among the people and few bikers on drugs is the main reason
Request all vehicle owners to install dashcam.
I am surprised that The Hindu forgot to mention the Inequality factor among these points.
It all starts with poor work culture on the rise in Bengaluru. Everyone is under stress
Bangalore has the most useless traffic police management system.
The one and only thing that I have followed while driving in Bangalore is to be extra careful. In fact, I follow this everywhere. Once you are outside the confines of your home, just know that you can die because of any incident. I follow this while on road, in park, in elevators, everywhere.
It's always been like this. Now with dashcams it's being recorded that's all.
Local goons assaulting on outsiders. Kannadigas are fast becoming classless. Bangalore becoming unlivable day by day
The causes that you mentioned are not compelling. It's people's mindset actually.
More traffic causes more road rage 😢
In chennai they made wearing a helmet compulsory which many take pride in but rash driving is very common. Governments are not going to fix basic governance issues. Building a flyover is what all parties propose as a solution to combat traffic, one can guess why they propose it. We as a nation are doomed.
First you report about the small shed getting built on the road. Who is approving all these?? Corruption at its peak. Even if it’s a temporary structure, it should not be built on the road.
Yes this is because haryana and punjabi's lundas are increasing there.
The roads have become stress busters for some lately. As if the stress from daily work isn’t enough, the horrible conditions of the roads are perfectly cut out for outbursts. When you spend almost half of your day on the roads that’s bound to occur as a consequence.
Why isn't the mainstream media bring this to their so called big channels. Goswami etc etc.
Because police won't worry about lane rules and fine people.
Road Rage is everywhere in India.
Even today I saw a car driving restless near HAL road Manipal hospital. He kept on honking, rash driving and overtaking all cars.
Whoever it is should be taught a lesson and should be taken strict action against..
Road rage mostly is not rage but extortion. Auto drivers and goons on bikes are experts in creating fights.
Bad roads, too much traffic makes people loose their patience. Some of the people from local areas are full of pride, even a small issue is blown out of proportion by these people and police simply do not act
This problem exists with bengluru native PPL, they are not educated and illiterate PPL. Mostly educated PPL are migrated to bengluru
You will see even though mostly the blame will be on North Indians coming to the state and the root of all problems in Bangalore, reality is almost in every case it is a local rowdy who is the culprit.
@Channel-y5y Regarding Mysore and Bangalore drivers share the weblinks here and do not say anything in air. Someone like you may have scribbled a narrative
@@aceofspades1981 every action has equal and opposite reaction. This is simple science, learn your basics well. Don’t tell one sided story, tell what you did to the local rowdy for him to react?
RoadRage is actually EveryWhere and is mostly practised and promoted by the males and Females Sitting on 2Wheelers, For Them Their Bike OR Scooty is the most precious GOLD and anybody damaging Their Vehicle is to be Rained By Verbal Abuses!, The Envy of Seeing A Massive Car Occupy and Consume Lots of Space in A Premium City adds Fuel to Their anger and jealousy (interpreted as R A G E) by This Specific Female anchor ⚓️ From Bangalore!,
and let the impatient person go first, you loose at max 5 mins but gain safety and peace
Following road/traffic rules is the only way to avoid this. If not avoid, reduce such events.
Police should take action against people driving on wrong side
The two wheelers come and park very close to the cars on traffic lights - the feet can be very close to car tyre - The Car driver can’t see - the two wheeler riders should take care
Don't call it Road Rage, call it what it is - Crime.
Imagine travelling an hour to work in peak traffic with potholes everywhere and cops trying to steal money at month end. I'm surprised there aren't more cases
As always, proud of " The Hindu"
Metro suppose to ease up vehicle number but it's construction only make traffic worse
That's because the metro system isn't comprehensive enough, there aren't enough lines, and the inefficiency of the construction process takes way too long!
Bring in the Chinese to build it, they'd do it much quicker!
@@SenorSol I completely agree
With family its a dangerous situation😢
It’s the ego that comes to play, I was somewhere around mg road, and a family on a scooty kept honking despite seeing bumper to bumper traffic, I decided to give him space and that freaked him out and told him, sir you pass please that hit his ego. The way he came towards me pounding with his huge hefty body and all that gold chain and bangles, made me sit in the corner as he reflected vaastav ka bhai. Shockingly his wife too was there and kept staring at me.
And then I realised I am working hard for these people to get free subsidies. 😢
I have seen cops sitting peacefully in their pcr van just 150m away from where few people were fighting on the Sarjapura road sometime last week.
