Watching Nate's reviews is so rewarding. It's not often that you cross paths with someone that is, at once, a phenomenally good player, clear and articulate in his use of language, deeply knowledgable of instrument engineering and construction, and so very well educated in music theory. A true joy to watch, listen, and learn.
huh. part of the reason I’m a bassist who owns a 5-string is because I’ve always just liked lower notes better, but at some point you stop being able to hear them, and on my bass you can’t really go much lower than B standard while still being able to make out the note, and I assumed that that was because of the range of human hearing. But this thing can play in G standard, and I can hear it just fine. Nice demo.
It's a shorter multiscale closer to what Ibanez has on offer. If Warwick made a 34-37 and it wasn't $3-4k I'd probably get one. This Spector sounds like a good compromise between Warwick and Dingwall though.
This demo is incredible because: 1) Extremely beautiful bass capable of diverse bass tones (I want one so bad) 2) Very good amplification and recording. 3) Your good vibe and simplicity to review. 4) And most importantly, your low voice...gives me goosebumps (in a good way of course) Keep on the good work! Kind regards. Fernando from Argentina.
Imo the clarity is exceptional! Standard earbuds, studio monitors, hifi headphones, even phone speakers - the lowest note is always clearly audible. Also first demo that made the fish man's sound impressive. Rest was standard checklist modern metal darkglass sound and nothing more... Like yeah, sounds modern and darkglassy. Great demo... But this video shows it all and doesn't let it drown in overdrive or distortion. Great stuff, great video! Finally someone gets how it should be done. 😌
Love it. I bought one yesterday. Went in for an Ibanez SG 5 but thought I’d try a multi scale. I instantly fell in love with it. I got mine in Haunted Moss paint work. Not only is it a nicer guitar to play than the Ibanez but the build quality and finish are far superior.
I been watching your demos for quite a few years, you make any bass sound good. You are an inspiration to any budding bass player, although I've been playing for years, you never cease to amaze me.
Everytime I‘m THAT close to start my own yt channel I come across one of your videos and I throw these thoughts away. That intro track was just amazing ❤️
I've had this very model on order for about a month now, and probably have another month to wait until it gets here. Not that I'm thinking about it constantly or anything... It's just that I've never owned an instrument this nice, and the bass I'm upgrading hails from the "starter" side of the Ibanez Soundgear line, with noisy, clacky frets and a sloppy B string, even after visits to the bass doctor. I'm just a little excited for this upgrade :)
Mine just came in today!! I've played around with it for a couple hours now, and I can say, without a doubt, it's every bit as amazing as I hoped and then some. This thing is a TONE MONSTER in every config I've tried, and it is absolutely noise free. I heard Spector was known for its "piano-like tone", but this is on another level. Seriously.
Seeing many of my fav metal bands play Spector basses recently, and hearing over and over the versatility of the Fishman Fluence pickups, I am going to pick up one soon, in the haunted moss matte finish
That is a beautiful bass. You need to give fieldy one of those. Beautiful clean sound. I don’t play fives but I did the other day and was sold. Been playing since “88”.
09:10: We share a common love for overtones out of bass guitars ^^ It‘s wicked how basses can sound almost like a mix out of a harpsichord and a xylophone :)
This is what I’ve been looking forward to! I record ambient music in f# standard this literally sounds so amazing I really love the passive sounds out of this! I hear a jazz a p the natural soapbar sound I am so tempted to pick this up even if it means selling my old basses
What the actual F? I'm looking for a new bass to learn a lot of these techniques, and had been looking at the Spectors recently. I'm absolutely blown away, Nate! You've really inspired me to dig in even harder!!! 🤘
I'm glad to hear that the Fishman electronics still bring that Spector growl to the forefront, something that I find the Aguilar equipped models haven't done as accurately as the EMGs.
Finally found a dealer near by that had one in stock! Really looking forward to try it out. Been playing a Warwick Thumb NT for over 20 years. But who knows… time to switch? Thanks for all your cool and educational videos Nathan (ordered your book a couple of days ago)!
The Fishmans sound great but if I'm buying a Spector, I really want that Spector sound! A beautiful bass though! I wonder if it feels like you have to "reach" for the lowest notes like some complain about with Dingwall.
The sound of Voice 2 in humbucker mode, shown at 4:15, felt most like my Euro 5. Here's a song with my Euro 5 upfront in the mix to compare: th-cam.com/video/UMlBxCPuUnI/w-d-xo.html

I got this about 3 weeks ago from AMS and it's awesome bass. Compared to my other Ibanez's and ESPs. Fishman Humbuckers sounds greater then EMG, Nordstrand,T1 and Bartolini. And I like how the body is curved. The Strings are Super long for 37" but 34" works too.
Finally, another bass on the market with the full 37'' B string. Every other manufacturer I've seen other than Dingwall seems afraid to go whole hog on the multiscale.
Loved the review. Impeccable playing and timing. Love the aesthetics. Loved most of the sounds... although, I felt that the active pups were a bit underwhelming. I expected more "oomph"... it's the only way I can articulate it. I preferred the passive modes better in this case. I currently play the Ibanez SRMS805 and love it... ...yet, despite the fact that I am a little put off by what I had hoped for in the active pups... I think I will start saving for this one. the multi-scale really seems to help with the clarity of that b string
It might as well be your amp. Most cabs or combos just don't go low enough for a five string.
@@matejgrim they may not go low enough for the fundamental, but it will reproduce the the harmonics fine.
Scale length of the instrument is a huge part of it, but the power/frequency of your amp and speakers will play into this, too.
