    This is the best explanation of the mechanics of doing waltz pivots I've seen anywhere.

    I've been trying to dance Continuous Pivots for years, these exercises are akin to the information that I was given by my teacher, who was lucky enough to move to USA from UK but left me still learning to dance the Pivots. My partner and I will be working on these and hopefully get back to you with good news :-) Thank you for the explanation and pointers in the video :-)

      From a dancesport-pov:
      The key is also in your head, figurly mainly. Most people who first encounter this combination fear that they will not complete (all) the full rotation(s) within the beat(s), making the physical effort hard to execute for themselves and thus also making it looked forced. They push too hard and it looks rushed.
      The key is to relax and let it go. By doing so, the chances you will make the turn(s) increases significantly. It's about control. If you rush already in your head, you hardly can control the physical outcome.
      The right coach/trainer/teacher will of course know this psychogical aspect and use it in the approach when teaching.
      (Btw, In general in Dancesport, there is kind of juxtaposisition concerning to effort: you have to work very hard to make it look easy. But the scale is tipping slightly more towards the 'work'-scale: judges must see your work in the shadows-so your preparations outside of the stage, but onstage you will have it make it look not *too* easy)

      @@StudioMargalima thank you, you're absolutely correct, initially we were putting far too much effort, and it was rushed and clumsy. Now we relax, keep our headweight out and stay low. Our exit is after 4 turns I dance a Contra Check OP on her Right then her Left and then she dances a solo turn, where I release my right hand and then collect for a progressive chasse to right. Many thanks 🙂

    I was trying to do these continuous pivots in Waltz for years. Now I realize two things have to happen to make this possible. Suppose I want to do Continous Pivots to the R (aka Natural Pivots in International Style). I would need good CBMP on my L hip and hold it there as the pivots go on without stopping to the R, and I need to make sure the frame is tighter to the follower so that way, the follower dances "together" with me in those continuous turns without breaking the frame, until these continuous turns are done.

      Yep - you've got it. Pivots are tricky for sure, once you master the skill in your own body, then you need to be able to do it with a partner. If you're not VERY close and connected... it's almost impossible. Keep up the good work my friend. -Brian

    One of my teachers also stressed the importance of keeping the inside of each dancer’s (right) thighs in contact as a key to making this work.

    • @SocialDanceOnline
      @SocialDanceOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Absolutely! That's another important key to success :-) -B

      Crucial!! Not dancing close enough is a main reason why social pairs struggle to perform relatively simple figures.
