I am so glad I am NOT the only Asian with curly hair. I finally chopped off my chemically straight hair and started my curly girl journey a few months ago. I hear you, I see you and I feel you! I use the curly girl method and it has worked well for me so far! It’s weird to have people that have known me for a long time and not realise how CURLY my hair is. It’s nice to receive comments on how beautiful my hair looks. It’s very empowering to embrace yourself as you are curly hair and all! You feel so free!

My story is the same as yours. I’m half Asian and I had that thick straight hair when I was a child and during puberty my hair changed and I chemically straightened my hair for around 15 years. I didn’t use the curly girl method but in Brazil (where I come from) there was a huge wave of “curly hair acceptance” - maybe caused by the cosmetic industry but it doesn’t really matter. Today I’m very happy with my waves and curls although sometimes it’s hard to deal with them

I really appreciate your Asian wavy hair videos. There are so many curly girl videos on TH-cam, but South/Southeast Asian hair is a whole different texture on its own and wavy/curly hair for us is a completely different challenge than the typical curly/wavy girl.

your story is so similar to mine. I'm chinese and I had the stereotypical straight asian hair. I found out because there was this spray that activates waves/curls and it worked on me. I thought it was just a sea salt spray but my friend pointed it out. since then, I've tried to embrace my hair, but I had no idea how to. I came across your videos and though some parts didn't work for me, you helped me to start my journey!

Super helpful. As a half Japanese dude with hair past my shoulders, its been very confusing to have it be so curly and frizzy 🤣 not the Asian hair you'd expect. And because of that I have mostly gotten my best tips from black friends and people who I follow who are doing videos about treatment for natural black hair. So cool to hear your story and learn a bit more from a frizzy-asian-hair expert! Thanks for sharing your story here haha I love your videos 🙏
Please don't stop sharing your jouney. I've chemically straightened my hair for about a decade or longer. I don't even know how my curly hair really looks like on me anymore. Recently, I've been thinking of giving up straightening my hair and embracing my curls. Your journey and tips have really motivated me to realize how important it is to embrace our natural hair. Thank you for showing that not every asian has straight hair!
You have no idea how excited I was to have finally found an Asian youtuber with curly hair :')) And you're right, there aren't many curly-haired Asian girls out there. I'm Chinese Malaysian with 2C to 3A curls. And just like you, I was born with pin-straight hair all the way up to puberty. My mom had no idea what to do with my hair so at the age of 12, I had my hair chemically straightened for the 1st time. There's something about the Asian community that viewed girls with straight hair as "beautiful" or "elegant", while we curly heads are known to look "messy" or "disorganised". Which is why for the next 10 years, I would always straightened my hair with a hair straightener every 2 to 3 days (i know). It was not until last year that I thought screw this Im going natural, with quarantine and all I decided it was the best time for me to transition since nobody is gonna see me even if I mess my hair up. Anyways kudos to us and all the curly-haired Asian girls out there who had finally learned to embrace their curls

I’m so glad I found you! I’ve been trying to sort out my hair. I straightened my hair all throughout middle school up until high school and I’d get it straightened at hair salons. They’d say “wow you have so much hair” and “your hair is so kinky, straightening it would help”. I’d get my hair thinned out and that would cause breakage on my hair it was just horrible

Hi Elisha, thank you for sharing your story! You always can get your hair back! With your love and good products, your thick beautiful hair will come back! Use natural masks for scalp and hair to help recover from all chemicals. Eat healthy and balanced food. I noticed with a good amount of protein in my diet, my hair gets thicker and healthier. I send you my big hugs and good luck on your hair journey! =)
I love this video. So empowering. I had the same problem and it took me a while to embrace my hair, too. At first, so-called "friends" laughed at me for wearing my hair naturally when I finally started to accept my hair.. and I realized then that that was their own problem... to be basic, mean, and lacking depth (mostly Asian girls).... but my non-Asian friends/strangers loved my hair.

my hair is really the same as yours, i am south east asian, my father & sister's hair is straight, but my mother's hair is very wavy, but she is also asian. When I was in elementary school, I was the most different among them, sometimes the ridicule came, my own father told me to straighten my hair, but after a long time my hair was constantly damaged by the heat of the straightener in the end I once shaved my hair, and it grew back without a trace of a straightener, it made me relieved and grateful that I was born with beautiful curls 😄💕

I thought Asian people especially(Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese) only had straight to wavy hair. But I am watching a C-drama on Netflix and the mom has curly hair. It got me curious . That's how I got here. You have beautiful hair😍😍
I’m researching asian wavy hair because I have speculation that I may have it. I recently cut my hair into short layers and I noticed the shortest layers became wavy and the ends sticking out all over the place lol but underneath which is the longest length of my hair is literally pin straight.. not sure what to do to figure out what is the true texture of my hair

Hi Christine, thank you for sharing your story! It's completely fine! When I start my hair journey I had a same problem, my longest hair was straight as fuck 😂 and short ones super frizzy. But it's a transitioning time, plus Asian hair is so thick and heavy that your waves weighed down with hair weight. If it makes sense to you lol. I would recommend you to train it like twisting with fingers or brush while its still wet, deep condition every 3-4 days, squish it with conditioner. And if it's too annoying just cut the long part and continue your transition.
I have curly hair that no one else in my family does.My mom says sometimes that I look like a beggar because if my hair and I don't like that.I don't know how to care for my hair because it was never taught to me.I once read about the CG method but none of the recommended products were available here.I'll give it a go again.

Thank you for this! It helps so many people know that they're not alone. Someone really needed to normalize that straight and sleek 'sterotypical' asian hair is not the only type out there.
omg I have almost the exact same story, my dad also have short hair but kinda wavy so I think I got my wavy/curly hair from him. My hair texture went to puffy and frizzy when I was younger to more defined waves/curls in college !! I used to hate my puffy hair and it was a pain to go to the hair salon (asian hair salon) because they didn't know how to work on my hair and just permed them straight..

As a white east asian woman i got told my hair is puffy and frizzy but the last 5 years i been trying to make my hair last longer than one day so thank you !
Thank you for your video! Soooo many years I wondered why my Indonesian hair was so thick and frizzy and had a mind of its own instead of sleek and smooth and silky. Just a week ago I started the CGM and I already see a difference. Wish I knew this sooner (just turned 41).

Hi Burte! Very nice to have you! I also used to have straightish hair when I was young, but puberty changed me....I have mix of straight, curly, frizzy, and puby hair...maybe like 5 % that are straight? I tried other products before like botanist (a japanese hair shampoo that was all plantbased and all natural), but then it irritated my skin and also caused my scalp to be very dry, so now I am very scared to try new products and just use Pantene which I think has silicon...but my scalp is not as bad just occasionally a flake here and there..also i m growing out a pixie hair and so I am at this really weird length that makes it hard to scrunch like everyone else that has long hair. Is there any good resources you think I can read more about so I don't accidentally buy a product that damages my hair? my hair is super dry and doesn't produce much oil...Thank you so much! You are so cute!!
3 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi Lily, thank you for reaching out to me! I got you, my friend! Check all ingredients on this website Curlsbot.com This is a good place to start. Also, you can take a quiz and know to learn about your porosity. If your scalp was too dry, it probably means the shampoo had harsh sulfates and it overdried your scalp. I would recommend you try sulfate-free shampoo from the LUS brand. Apply 100% pure castor oil on your scalp the night before wash day. Castor oil helps heal the scalp and increase hair growth. Let me know if you need help! =)
@ Thank you for the reply Burte!!! So after hearing from you, I've been googling about castor oil and there's seems to be 2 types, one is the jamaican black castor oil and the other is the cold press much lighter in color one, do you have a recommendation as to which one I should use? Also, I read a comment that castor oil might cause itchyness and irritation at the scalp...but then again, it was just one comment with no context so I really wanted to try it! Thank you in advance for your time in getting back to me Burte!!!
3 ปีที่แล้ว
@@4eversuju I would recommend trying the light one. Just make sure it is 100% pure and good quality oil. And it should be fine. And please wash your scalp with shampoo the next day =) About irritation, it might happen if a person was using a bad quality product or didn't wash out the oil after the treatment. You should use it as a scalp mask. Good Luck Lily! =)
Have straight pin silk hair above my ear area.but again the front hair is frizzy .feels so soft, healthy touching my backside part hair but the outer layers are soso frizzy. And the huge volume of hair .Its pain

Ahh I understand your pain! My lower underlayer hair is soft and mostly straight like yours. If your hair feels frizzy it means that that part of your hair is lacking moisture. Try deep conditioning mask without protein, it might helps!❤️❤️❤️

Niice I don’t see many East Asians with wavy/curly hair, but I guess every ones genes comes different. I’m South Asian from Bangladesh I have very curly hair so does most of my family, but some of my other Bangladeshi friend’s had straight hair and growing up I thought their was something wrong with my hair because it was frizzy and big I hated it, But my country has diverse looking people some have curly hair some have straight some are brown some are faire. Most South Asians have curly hair it’s normal. Countries like Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan. But yeh I grew to embrace it and take care of it 🦁 after straightening it to death 😂
3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
Hi beautiful! It's so interesting because every time I see movies and advertising from South Asia, all people have brighter skin and silky straight hair. I always thought you also have a problem with representation in the media and toxic beauty standards. Does it mean you don’t have this kind of problem in Bangladesh? If it's normal to have curly hair there, why did you straighten your hair to death? 😅
@ you replied!! They only show the fair/ straight haired women and men is because they have this weird fetish with lighter complexion when we are meant to be brown people. Like all these lightening creams they sell it’s just weird to me. We just have to embrace ourselves how we were made lol! I used to straighten my hair continuously for 10 years of my life then stopped at 20 😂
I have exactly the same experience as you 😃😃😃 but my mom can't understand even if I explained about this "genetic" theory to her 😃. She keeps blaming me for not taking care of my hair so that it became wavy.

Do you lay your edges? I'm full asian and I have even curlier hair than yours so I'm wondering will it be like cultural appropriation if I lay my edges? Some black people on youtube say it is cultural appropriation according to black people if non blacks do it. I'm very confused!

Just so you know, many of the “Black” people that are in those comments are not actually black. Unfortunately there is a trend of trolls calling everything racist just so they can distract from real racism problems. It makes people annoyed with Black people which is what they want.

Hi Burte 😊 a fellow mongolian here! I can totally relate to your story because I have the exact same hair. I am talking about puffy, frizzy, really thick and annoyingly arrogant unmanageable ones. Today is my first day at wavy hair journey. Hope it will come to an amazing results same as yours. Thank you very much for an inspiring video 🥰
Hi Michelle, thank you for sharing your story! I am so happy you are embracing your beautiful and unique texture 😍😍😍 I wish you good luck and all my support on your hair journey! It's gonna take some time and energy but the result all worth it! Let me know if you need any help! I'm here for you! =)
Thank you for sharing your story! It feels very nice to meet people with same struggles! I remember that hairstylist even didn't know how to cut puffy hair. Thanks God we have Internet now and can help ourselves =) 💕💕💕
I blow fried my Asian hair for ages until my sister, who is a cosmotoligist (hairdresser), told me my hair was curly/wavy! I love your videos!
April, thank you! I am happy you embraced your beautiful natural pattern! ❤️❤️❤️
My hair is just like yours!!!! I get a lot of compliments for my hair ❤️
So amazing! 🤗🤗🤗
I love your hair! You look great! I’m Asian and also have curly/wavy hair! Your story is very similar to mine. For the past 3 years, in my mid 40’s, I embrace my natural hair! Thanks for sharing! 😃👍🏼
Thank you! I am so happy for you! I am sure you have amazing hair texture! Welcome to the family! 🤗🤗🤗
@ 🥰👍🏼
Got my hair straighten since 9 years old. My mom really hated it so she shaved it off in my younger childhood. I stopped permanent straightening this year and now I have wavy top with straight bottom.😅 just need to grow it out.
You're so eloquent! Thanks for sharing your story and including all the pictures. 😊
Thank you so much for your support! It means a lot! =)
I'm so happy for you! 🤗🤗🤗 It's never too late to embrace your natural texture! Thank you for sharing your story!
Hi Burté !
Your experience is similar to mine. Now I happy to have curly hair and not straight hair :)
I relate to this so much! It’s nice to hear I’m not alone. I just followed your channel and am going to try your tips!
You are defiantly not alone! I am with you! You got this bestie! 🤗🤗🤗
My hair is wavy at the back but straight in front so I would always straighten all my hair every single day and it damaged my hair so much so I just cut off all the damaged hair and now I'm going to embrace my wavyness
Thank you for sharing your story! I have the same problem, my lower back hair is pretty straight, and other parts are wavy. But I accepted my hair the way it is =) I wish you good luck on this journey! 🤗🤗🤗
Thank you, I really needed to hear this. 💗
I'm glad it was helpful! 🤗🤗🤗
You are beautiful girl! Thank you for the positive msg 💗
Thank you for your love and support! 💕💕💕
Your hair is so gorgeous!
Thank you! You are amazing! 🤗🤗🤗
Gurl your hair is gorgeous. I really like wavy hair but mune is straight. I am jealous of you.
@ Okay thanks for getting back to me Burte!! Will give that a try!
Ahh I knew you were Mongolian! :D
You have gorgeous hair!!
Awww thank you! =) How did you know? My cheekbones? =)
@ your lovely accent!
@@paperboxes aah =) thank you!
Quarter Japanese with curly/wavy hair here!! Let’s go girlsss/boysss
Yey curly bestie! Thank you for your love!
Assalamualikum, I am from Bangladesh and i also have wavy hair and i m the only one who has this type of hair but most of are my father and uncles have. My mother cared my hair like her when i was child, it was hard to convenance er that my hair is not like her . Thank to Almighty God that nowadays she try to understand.
Thank you for sharing your story! And I'm glad your mom is accepted your natural hair texture. It is a big deal!
Yeah I have frizzy poofy asian hair (korean) I don't know what my hair is so poofy
She should watch my video! =) And I hope you know that you are beautiful and unique! ❤️❤️❤️
@ 😃😃😃 Yes, I'll try to translate it when I'm home. Thank you so much😊😊 You help me a lot, I'm now more confident to go out without hair straightening. There are also cute way to style wavy hair👧
@@erillijo1379 Let me know what your Mom says after watching the video! =) I'm so happy for you! Keep going and embrace your natural beauty! We are very lucky to have such amazing texture! ❤
I’m Vietnamese both my parents are Vietnamese and when I hit puberty mine curled up got frizzy and ect and I didn’t felt like I got in
I understand you so much! It is really hard to accept your new hair texture when nobody around to teach you love and take care of it!
If you need help with curly hair, please let me know! ❤️
Beautiful 🦋😘
I wish mine grows back my hair slowly came back but not like before anymore
The chemical seems strong to be able to linger for many years
Ah I heard about it. How chemical perm can change the hair structure. I hope you can find the way with your hair. I send you my love and support! 🤗🤗🤗
Do you lay your edges? I'm full asian and I have even curlier hair than yours so I'm wondering will it be like cultural appropriation if I lay my edges? Some black people on youtube say it is cultural appropriation according to black people if non blacks do it. I'm very confused!
Hello, my Beautiful Curly sister! Please don't listen to those people. It is your naturally beautiful hair and you can do whatever you want! I don't lay my edges, but if I wanted one day I will do it. Curly Wavy Hair culture is for everyone who was born this way. Embrace and style your hair however you want! There are no rules and regulations! I send you my Love and support! =)
@ thank you
Just so you know, many of the “Black” people that are in those comments are not actually black. Unfortunately there is a trend of trolls calling everything racist just so they can distract from real racism problems. It makes people annoyed with Black people which is what they want.
Thank you very much.I try to beautiful curly hair like you
Thank you for your support! Let me know if you need any help! ❤️❤️❤️
im 15 and is happening to me exactly what u talking about
