    We are Eleise and Lawrence & Nyh - A young family from the south of England. Like many people the pandemic gave us a shake up! While watching hours of Mark Weins in Thailand - We had our “Ah ha” Moment. We decided we wanted to travel.
    Enjoying working for ourselves, we didn’t want to give up our business and decided it was entirely possible for us to do both. So we set about making it our lifestyle to work in the UK for a month, and then travel for a month - month on, month off…. until our little boy Nyh goes to school! We want to inspire people that you don’t have to up-sticks, sell all your belongings and leave behind family to be able to see the world.

      Seems a bit more expensive to me, especially considering the prices of the skincare products and that kind of thing. The fruit prices are just incredible too. She seems to be better with the comparisons than he does. I had the same experience in Albania and China. No idea why everyone says poor countries are cheap to live but in fact the groceries at least cost at least as much as the UK if not more and the stuff is mostly better in the UK with more options.

    Today is 21/01/2024 and if you go to the veggie market at Quatre Bornes, Rose Hill or Port Louis, you'll be even more so shoked at the price of carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. It's not just the cyclone but scraping off vital arable and grazing land to build futile concrete structures causing insecure food self-insufficiency, flooding and drought

Some items being produce on the island are a little cheaper but still life remain really difficule for mauritian with the extreme increase in price since covid. BTW, about the bagguets, most probably going dry next day thing.
    Best stored in cling film stays soft as bought for few days.
    Even when feels bit dry after, its still very edible,
    Proffesional chefs tip on "freshing up" the baguettes, is,
    Open tap on kitchen sink, hold it under running water for a quick few seconds, the stick it in micro for couple of minutes or pre heated oven, and bingo, its good as day it was bought fresh !! 😊😊😅😅

      @@parttimetravellingfamilyno such thing as support in a so called paradise. A corrupt government, high cost of live and a constant struggle to find a decent job for unskilled workers, immigrants have more chances to obtain job here than locals.
      I kid you not, where I live, factories which are situated there don't employ people in this vicinity but rather employ people who lives far or immigrants. A lot of discrimination just for a lousy and tiring job that will pay only 15000 rupees a month

    The ingredients they replace natural sugar cane or beet root sugar with are called Sacharin and Sucralose. These are petroleum by products discovered in the 19th century which are now added to almost everything. I suspect because it is cheap to make and distribute. You need to grow sugar cane, harvest and process it, store it and ship it and distribute it and store in huge warehouses. Cost heaps. Almost all toothpaste contain sacharin, titanium salts, fluoride ( a deadly poison in large doses). There are warnings on toothpaste tubes to not swallow and if you do go to go an hospital emergency. Money talks, bullshit walks. Have fun.

    Yeps Life is very expensive in this tiny island. The sellers have to import everything because in Mauritius most items are not produced locally. One of the reason is because labour is expensive and also most people do not have the producer mindset. The whole market is based on consumption.

    You're somewhat inaccurate with the prices in the UK though. £9 for 200g of lurpak? It's £2.15, actually £1.70 with clubcard. Also vegetables and fruit are not GMO, just because it's sprayed does make it GMO, that is something else entirely. Overall it looks to be about the same as the UK, perhaps a little more, hard to say.

      Common sense? 😂😂😂 They always use the imported excuse to explain these ridiculous prices. So what about the expensive local products? Even our local fruits are more expensive here than the price abroad where it's exported. Every week the prices are raised. That is not called common sense at all.

  • @PapillonDeMer
    @PapillonDeMer 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Whenever the newspaper talk about how the prices of veggies or other food will go up, we mauritian all complain on facebook. And here when you're showing the truth about how expensive life is for us local, they get mad at you or say it's all because it's imported. Some mauritian doesn't really like it when tourists shows the reality of our island but I'll do the same when traveling. Import isn't an excuse for the prices we have here. Every week the prices are increasing. Not just imported products but even local veggies and fruits. Lindt chocolate used to be 70 rupees before, then after covid it became 170 rupees and now it's 220(that's like 4 or 5 pounds) whereas Madagascar is so close to us, they could have imported the chocolate from there as it's way cheaper or even vegetables. Madagascar has so many good fruits and vegetables. Better in quality also as it's not filled with pesticides.

If you think "sterling" then you will find certain product expensive compared to the UK, but from a rupee point of view, prices for most items are in my opinion reasonable for expats.
