    If you are going to keep the car even after the warranty expires, then the only clever choice is Toyota. With VW, you get huge bills every time when there is a tiny thing to fix.

    Great Reviews. I also had to chose between these (and the cx 3) and went with the T-Cross.
    The general look of the Yaris Cross is just so underwhelming. Outside really hard to like for my taste and the inside might look ok if it was 2012, but not today anymore. Production of Yaris Cross started 2020 (!), the T-Cross ist from 2018. How can you make the interior of a new produced car already look outdated? Even the interior of the Mazda CX3 from 2015 looks more modern than the Yaris Cross. As a customer I dont care much of the hard plastics in a car, especially if you dont ever touch them. In fact the soft touch materials are often annoying to clean as you feel the need for special products. If you have kids, the hard plastic might even come handy... The only advantage in the Yaris Cross for me is fuel consumtion, well surprise surprise its a hybrid so its kind of comparing apple and pears in this category. Plus the numbers of the T-Cross are allright as well. Anyhow, If you buy a cross SUV, budget obviously isn´t your main concern, as you could just buy a small car that does the same job done. Easy choice here... T-Cross all the way!

  • @MF-qw5wl

    Interesting comparison. Here in UK, the Yaris Cross hybrid has yet to launch, but those consumption figures are brilliant. VW residuals here are slightly better than Toyota though. I love the look of the Yaris, but will wait to see what the pricing looks like when it arrives. I hate the lack of a driver's central armrest as that is part of my preferred driving position. I have loved Toyota's in the past but feel I may have missed something by never owning a Volkswagen...

  • @jpmalopes
    @jpmalopes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Well, manufacturers decided to increase prices of former low budget cars so that consumers find larger cars a better deal... and chose to buy a larger car. ou can buy a T-Roc or a Corolla Cross (coming soon) with a few extra euros (or whatever your currency is)... That's a market strategy. That's why there are no longer cheap cars. SUVs are just more heavy and inefficient. Driving these cars may give a feeling of security or even superiority for their higher seating position. But it's mostly fake. A bit more space for sure, but pay attention to safety driving. Check the stability tests of these cars and you'll see what I'm talking about (braking distances, handling in emergency situations...). And try to take these machines outside good condition roads and you'll see why they are called SUVs and not 4x4. But, that's the way car manufacturers are making money. That said, putting small batteries and calling them HEV or PHEV helps keeping the internal combustion engine market alive. Engines much cheaper to build and there again, making more profit! For sure a hybrid (HEV and NOT a PHEV) is a better economic choice and the one you should pick (but maybe not the SUV version).

    • @seandoherty925
      @seandoherty925 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i think that the extra hight of this segment is bringing you more option to go on a road / trail trip with your famly. and for a guy like me who travel on pathes and easy trails (mybe 20 - 25 time a year) it is worth it.
      and for the combustion engine. toyota has made her self clear that her way of thinking is "better 10 hybrid cars than on electric" because of the polution that are made on the bettery manufacture and the cost/ benefit that you get from hybrid vs electric

      I sat in both a CHR and corolla before deciding to go with the Yaris cross. Definitely agree with you about the interior design but the CHR made me feel like I was in a cave. The interior is all black and claustrophobic. I’m small so I always pump the seat up to the max to have better view and in the corolla my head just skims the roof and again felt claustrophobic. Space isn’t an issue when you’re 5 ft like me. Sitting behind my driving position is super spacious. It’s not small at all.

    Imo there's only two brands to buy. I.e. Toyota and VW. Toyota interior has always been a huge let down (personal opinion). Everything is hollow platicy and quality feels like an after thought. Toyota is reliable indeed but I have had 0 issues in all the VWs I've ever owned. To me the hybrid tech by Toyota is also gimmicky. At the end of the day you have to maintain two technologies and those batteries aren't cheap at all!

      The reviewers and younger people don't always get the appeal of these vehicles. It is their ease of access and better driving view for older people for one. That height makes all the difference getting in and out. They are also more stylish in my opinion than the hatchback equivalents. Also the Yaris is way "greener" being almost twice as fuel efficient (and it will be - my wife's 2014 Yaris hybrid gets 68 mpg+). The seat comfort is a worry in the Yaris - is it a downgrade on the 2014 Yaris hatch model which is perfectly comfortable?
      Do you not have the new Renault Captur in Oz? Comes as petrol, diesel, mild hybrid and PHEV in Europe and is well specced with a much more luxurious interior.

    VW for "premium" feeling.
    Toyota for warranty, reliability and running costs.
    I chose the Toyota.
