      I actually am getting "I am" tattooed on me soon, for this reason. I personally associate "I am" with power, positivity and growth. But the problem is, I often forgot I Am anything at all! I'd like to get the tattoo on my wrist (and technically upside down, but the tattoo's for me so pfft) so that I see it everyday and am reminded of how amazing I really Am! Weeeee!

    What makes your videos/advice stand out from others (In my opinion) is the focus on how simple details can evoke growth and change, effectively making one self-aware of our responsibility to ourselves.
    You communicate strong messages without sounding preachy.
    So much value on this channel, thank you for posting.

      Erica V I went to a professional therapist thinking I would be understood, but instead I have never felt so judged. I thought I was there to get help. Not feeling ten time worse about my self, my emotions and thoughts. Julia is a person that doesn’t do that. She helps you to think it through and come to your own conclusions instead of telling you “what to do”. A rare talent in this time and age.

    Watching this has made me realise that I have low confidence not low self esteem. I generally quite like myself and am happy with who I am, but I constantly fear messing things up and have terrible social anxiety. That must be why a lot of therapy techniques I've done in the past haven't worked.
    So how do I get confidence?

  • @Kiseochan
    @Kiseochan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you have advice for someone who is just "fumbley" in general. I have fumbled through all of my successes. I fumble every day in the job that I have been good at for years! I'm good at drawing blood, I've been good at it for years but every time I still kind of fumble my way through it. I somehow give off the vibe that I'm inexperienced when I'm not. I've had patients ask me if I'm a student, and in my head I'm like, "umm no I've been at this for years, I've drawn blood from babies and frail old ladies." But you wouldn't know it looking at me (until I do the stick and they're like, "wow no one ever gets me on the first try!") I fumble through the morning routine I do EVERY morning and even my hobbies that I've been at since I was a kid.
    ...I'm sorry this comment got so long,

    • @Kiseochan
      @Kiseochan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I kind of feel the need that I'm not "being too tough" on myself. I mean, sometimes I am, especially when it comes to making mistakes at my job (medical field... people's lives..) but I'm also aware that there are times where it seems like I was magically carried though certain things... Like basic training in the Air Force, my flight and I knew they were carrying me. And I know that I was handed the job I have now because I literally replaced myself when I eventually got kicked out of the military. (My work family hired me as a civilian to replace my position... If that makes sense?)

    My teacher in grade 4 planted the seed of self efficacy that has supported me through many challenges. When struggling through frustration about a school project to the point of tears, he said that I was tenacious and that I had what I needed to solve the problem. It’s amazing how his encouraging words have helped me through the big problems, the frustrations, and self doubt.

    • @RachelSmets
      @RachelSmets 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phillip Rajcany our thoughts are so powerful, and if it became automated fro you, it became unconscious. You can change those worries again, just like they entered your subconscious, you can retrain your brain to get automated opposite thoughts, the thoughts that are not worries.
      This takes time and effort, but you can retire your brain.
      What you learned, you can also unlearn.

    I can and I've done hard things! 😎 Oh, yeah!
    🤔 To be completely honest, I can use more confidence in some fields, part of me gets pretty insecure about taking action, not because of lack of self-esteem (I do like myself, LOL) but because of the idea of not knowing how to manage situations... I know life doesn't come with a manual but wouldn't be nice have one with all the codes to respond properly to each situation? 😂 Nice video, love it!

  • @empathyrebel

    I can say with high confidence that your video is somewhat flawed.
    You are confusing competence with confidence. I am sure you know people that are very competent but don't display/have confidence - and vice versa.
    Also, you are using 'confidence' and 'self-confidence' interchangeably - not too concerning but also not very accurate.
    You yourself are a great example of someone displaying high self-confidence, which is the key for success as a youtuber or eg. sales person - but at the same time this has nothing to do with your competence.
    You are certainly not a bad actor, so this is just a friendly reminder to self-review your content.
    Watch out for overconfidence, (logical) inconsitencies etc.
    I was looking for a proper definition of self confidence vs. self esteem - which is absolutely essential - but so far couldn't find it on yt.
    However, you seem to be one the few to even distinguish the two concepts, so thumbs up for that. 🙂
    Cheers from Germany, Marcus.

    oh i kidna get this. I used to be confident(I can be successful, make money, professionally succeed, my skills are great and I'm smart) but used to have no self esteem at the same time(nobody likes me, I'm worthless, I'm just an object and tool and don't deserve to be loved, no one wants to be friends with me, no one can love me). There were areas in my life i was confident in and areas where I just had 0 confidence/efficacy, like making friends and maintaining relationships, which is funny becuase I actually had lot of friends and always made friends wherever I went..omg yeah i know exactly that sliding off feeling, nothing sticking... so sad!

    Hmm... I wonder: perhaps we as a society are having such self esteem issues due to our continued rejection of God or any idea of a creator. Am I a being created in the image and likeness of a God who loves me unconditionally; a key part of His eternal plan? Or am I a highly ordered puddle of mud, an accidental creation of an uncaring universe? If we take the position of the latter, where do I find my value? Me and everyone I know will likely be dead and forgotten in about a century. It's hard to feel valued from that perspective. But I guess you're not allowed to say such things as an unbiased therapist...
    I notice that you and many others often send the message of "you are enough" (which is a fine and lovely message), but no one ever seems to say *why* I am enough. I think this is what makes the message difficult to believe, at least for me.

  • @JohnM...
    @JohnM... 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my personal experience, confidence is not something you can pull out of your ass whenever you like, as the deluded Tony Robbins seems to think. Self confidence is increased with many little successes, and in turn builds self esteem, which builds self belief. People who do not believe in themselves don't have self confidence or esteem. What matters is working through limiting beliefs, and replacing them with strong supporting beliefs, which are not based upon what the world thinks of us, but what WE think of ourselves.

    Hi, great video. Can you tell me how this relates to self-concept? I am a family and consumer science teacher. The textbook I use says that your self-concept can be improved by working on building good qualities such as HONESTY, THOUGHTFULNESS, ATTITUDE, RESPONSIBILITY, etc. Do you find this to be true?
    I am finding that we don't talk about self-concept without talking about self-esteem so I am just trying to wrap my mind around it a little better before I teach it to my students.

I was married to someone who did not like trying new things and I could never figure out why. Afraid to make mistakes? Who knows. I'm just glad I am not like that. I am a great gardener, painter and quilter. Love all of it. Have even gotten paid for some of my paintings and quilts. Life is fun. Tough stuff? Try giving up a baby for adoption bc your parents told you you would never succeed if you kept your baby. Made it through that one. Divorce, made it through that too. Supported myself WITHOUT WELFARE as a single parent bc the ex was only required to pay $125.00 a month child support. Yep, 125.00 A MONTH. So I supported myself and my son working 2 jobs. Yep, I like myself. I CAN, I WILL, I AM. Also done with the people pleasing. Thanks for all you do Julia!!

So much work, some fulfillment, yet a void that isn't filled. Julia, one thing I am noticing is that as I change and get more comfortable with myself I am a bit more VOCAL about my opinions. Not mean, or pushy, just speak up a bit more. I am noticing people are not used to this especially from me. I am noticing people, primarily my family, doesn't know how to cope with the "new me" so to speak and it feels like they can't enjoy time with me now. Why is it, THE WHOLE WORLD is allowed to have opinions and tell me all about what they think, but when I decide I would like to have an opinion, and speak up about it, others are offended? Do people only want to hang around others who ONLY agree with then? Could you do a video on this?

    I'm sharing this video on FaceBook.
    I suppose this is why I lose confi-... self-esteem when I try to defend myself from others. I try to fight for my core values and beliefs behind the wall of introverted safety in my heart, but the harder I defend, the more power I give others, and the more self-esteem I lose. I'm starting to believe that has a large amount to do with trying to put on the armor of confidence on the slippery negative self image I have of myself (not being able to believe my own worth without being able to prove my point to others). I don't feel like I can feel good about myself if I'm not wanted, desired or respected by others.
    How much do others affect our self-esteem, self efficacy, and self-confidence? How do I stop making my feelings of self-worth vulnerable to what others think and how much I can attract and pleasure the opposite sex? (I've been abused and neglected by my mother, and have experienced disdain and been ignored by girls I'm attracted to).

    I can and I have done hard things! Making my way through a particularly hard one now so my success rate isn’t quite 100% but there IS another side and I WILL get there

    Self-esteem is what I need to work on my self-confidence I can get up and entertain or speak to large crowds doesn't bother me a bit inside I feel unworthy I used to call myself to myself Quasimodo it is the reason why I like the John Prine song sins of memphisto❤🌴🐊🌴🌻🕉 I have also walked a guitar to some of the worst neighborhoods in America that takes more than just communication skills😁 there's that sense of humor I can and I have done hard things I can I will I do that's my motto
