Every detail makes this story pop. From pockets in the pocket area - to the description of what 75k looks like stacked up - to the sagging car due to bulky bulk! The Snowman should have increased your cut on this one!! A genuinely well told story, Chris. Thanks for sharing!
When I’m ready to sell my collection I know who I will sell it to. Inexperience people in the hobby may think making a 20k profit favors the seller but the buyer takes all the risk PLUS having to tied up 60g’s of your money.
These are by far my favorite of our videos. While I appreciate your other very informative formats, I find that I enjoy the stories you share more than anything else.
Man, I just love watching these collection purchase videos. I think most collectors would love to have not only the cash, but the nuggets to travel like that, and acquire these awesome collections. Although, most of us would definitely not want the bulk, especially the junk wax. Thanks again for the entertainment Chris. Always look forward to the next purchase.
I’d like to add that Guy’s like Chris should be the face of the hobby. He gives a very reasonable price for collections and makes a reasonable profit. The proof of his honesty is The Texas Snowman putting 75k in Chris’ account. That’s a lot of faith folks!
Out of curiosity, what do you consider a reasonable price for stores/dealers to buy at? I've noticed that for cards over $5 it feels like 50% cash, 60% store credit feels like it's been the norm for a while. Unless talking about a rare sealed item or high grade grails.
Always enjoy these stories and yes, I imagine this would've been a fun one to sell over time -- so many good vintage slabs, at least from what you showed. Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to your next rainy day for content.
I’ve never been this excited to see a new TH-cam video. I love these stories. Haven’t listened yet (going to right now), just wanted to make sure I showed the respect. Thanks Chris.
Fantastic story ! I have recently sold a collection myself, and it is so important that the person who buys it. Is someone you trust. A collection is more than the individual cards, it is also the time, energy and heart you have put into gathering the cards.
FINALLY another Adventures in Card Dealing story. I missed those and had over time stopped watching the roller vids. Appreciate you sharing this very entertaining one 🤩
Great story, and great adventure! Thank you for breaking down the cost and the return, very much appreciated. 👍 Hope you and your family have a great Easter. 👍
You are a guy i would be more than happy to deal with if selling a collection. You always come across as very genuine and honest buyer/seller. Of course you and Jeremy are trying to make money but you also keep your integrity
After a couple years of watching your channel, there is no love lost. I enjoy most every episode, high rollers can get a bit repetitive, which you have stated you are aware of, as duplicates come up often, so you started to include honorable mentions which I love . But these stories are far and away my favorite. Other than regular rollers, there is nothing I love more. As always I appreciate your time and the effort you put into making these videos. On a side note, you start your videos with a pic of your son with the mantle rookie, how old is your son now? I have three kids, 10,12 and 16. Does your son enjoy the cards? I’m sure he is still pretty young, but one is never too young to love collecting, not just cards but anything. Thanks again!
Thank you for the kind words. My son is now 8 (time flies!). He is not really in to cards, other than he enjoys doing activities with me. If I am sleeving cards, he will want to help and do the same.
I love “story time”, Chris. Sounds like this trip was an absolute adventure. Glad it all worked out. Thanks for sharing these with us. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter weekend.
Robert Louis Stevenson once said, "To travel hopefully is better than to arrive." For me, one of the best parts of going to a card show is driving to get there. How exciting would it be to be driving more than 10 hours in anticipation of making a deal for almost 60,000 dollars of some of the coolest cards on the planet???
Chris, a running theme of your collection buying stories is that your car is too small. Time to get a bigger car. :-) Keep up the great work and thanks for another fun video.
How cool is it that these guys will share their business plan along with the numbers!?! I understand that it’s kinda like advertising to a point and likely part of the overall plan. But either way, I don’t care I think a valuable but of info that any of us can benefit from. And for that and everything else I say thank you !
I love these videos you make. I know I have begging for one for months for one. Just love the hearing the story (TRUE). Chris you a very good story teller. Have you ever thought about writing books on any subject? I think you would surprised how well you would do. It's sounds like the snow cost you money so you wouldn't have to immediately flip them. I curious why did you keep the second year Jordan (7) since you bought a high end PSA 9 from me? Did you have to sell the 9? I always thought it was a good example to submit looking for a 10. That card historic has issues and centering issues, fish eyes a very short print run for the entire set of cards..
Thanks! I have not considered writing a book - I used to be a writer (sort of) in the film world, but I burned out from that. For a while, I was keeping all early Fleer Jordan cards as I thought they were good long term investment cards. Although that hasn't really panned out to this point as they have all gone down in the last few years.
Low key indictment on Ebay. 75k would be fine if Ebay didn't take 15k themselves. And then those cards would be 10x harder to find without Ebay. So it's a different world today.
And therein lies the secret to buying a collection...."....but the REAL value was in the graded VINTAGE cards.....". Enough said. Chicago in winter? yeah...bad time to buy a collection.....I would have rented a van. An interesting story nonetheless.... I and my wife deal in collectibles (no sport cards)....and we just don't do winter shows....we learned our lesson years ago....
meanwhile, Jeremy sitting home by the fire drinking a cold one, watching the game while you on the Struggle Bus-lol I have some "friends" like that but hey, thats the beauty of being the money man
Chris, I have a question when you buy collections and try to estimate the total worth. Do you look at each card in terms of eye appeal or do you price strictly on the grade? For example, will you bump up your estimate if the card is a centered modern PSA 8 compared to an off-centered PSA 8? Centered vintage PSA 2 compared to an off-centered PSA 2?
It depends on how much time I have to assess the collection. If I am buying a few high dollar cards, then yes I certainly consider eye appeal. But if I am buying a large collection and need to assess it quickly, I wont really look at that (except on maybe the highest value stuff).
If you went slow and sold it all how much value was there available total? Fun story thanks for sharing- cannot imagine the stress of loading those in and out of the hotel with snow and the time crunch.. 😂
The Wagner you see there was a reprint (graded by BGS a 9.5 - they will grade some of the reprints). I think it was the only reprint in the collection.
I think next time to save time u sud of used the pictures to price out the cards before u got there... And the other stuff u cuda done wen u got there... You wud of saved a bunch of time... Im curious how much more or less do u think the collection was worth???
I would definitely be scared to bring that much cash to some stranger's house. I know you guys had a few conversations and the seller seems nice, but that's how scammers disguise themselves, they will act like the nicest person to lure you in. I would 100% bring something for protection, because even tho most people are nice, there are some evil people out there. I m not trying to scare you, just saying to be careful. Stay safe Chris.
Just wondering why you didn't price everything ahead of times with photos, or at least the graded cards to have a good idea of where you would be at ? Me, I can't stand driving 10 miles, let alone a trip like that to Chicago.
It looks like most of the first photos Chris was sent were zoomed out so as to include more of what was there.......Comping cards in person takes what, 15-20 seconds per card? Comping cards from grainy, half-unreadable pics due to having to zoom in so far just to see player/year/set/grade/etc. would probably take multiple MINUTES per card. I say all of this as someone who has comped thousands of cards through pictures......I'd much rather have them in hand. @collectorinvestordealer
@@willbain9130 And a guy wants $75,000, but can't be bothered to take as many photos as needed ? How long would that have taken ? I've spent far more time on a single card sometimes, dealing on a small amount of $

Love the openness of Chris’ channel. How many other buyer would tell you what they paid AND what they sold for? Great collection!
Cool story. Thanks for sharing.
The confidence to rock a Jedi braid and 75k in cash into a strangers house will never be matched.
Welcome back Adventures in Card Dealing!
Every time I watch your videos and see those Aarons, Mantles, Mays slabbed up, it excites me to search for my next vintage card.
that turtle neck is wild
What is appealing about the lower grade star vintage cards is I perceive them as quicker to move...more available buyers.

Love the story (and your channel). But I'm curious, what was his reason for parting with the collection? Again, just curious....
Since I lived in the Netherlands, it would take me forever to sell through it, and that was too much money to sit on.
@@collectorinvestordealer Sorry...I meant the "sellers" reason.....
Ah, I misread your question. He didn't need the money or anything, just had the collection a long time and had just sort of moved on from it.
