ITs wonderful to see diehards like yourselves ~ who adore the hobby as much as you all~ benefit and find all the success the hobby has to offer. Interesting the collector chose SGC ~ I imagine it had plenty to do with the better cost and turnaround time compared to PSA for example. Looking very much forward to seeing the next one Chris.
Philly in the house! Let's Go! Thanks so much for the "teaser" and look forward to the recap video's. 3 of my favorite "hobby" folks. I enjoy seeing and the discussions around the "financials" but the fun you guys had was priceless. Thanks again and we need more veggie talk!!!!
A great recap of how it all went down. As always, thank you for the transparency. Hope the deal yields great profits, and some great additions to your collection (from what I have seen, it already has, which is thoroughly deserved). 👍
Seems like a great deal all the way around. I'd be curious to see a future video of the break down between what you paid, kept and were able to sell for.
Hi Chris. I have been following this from the start (Mike's channel and the live stream) and what a great buy by you two guys. I was looking for you all weekend at the Toronto Expo, but our paths never crossed. Hopefully we can meet at the National. Thanks for sharing and I'll look forward to your recap in the near future. Talk soon pal.
Thanks for sharing, Chris! Looking forward to more videos on this as it unfolds over the next several months and really curious about the withdrawal issue lol. Oh, and want to know what you kept for the PC… unless I totally spaced and missed it in this video, which wouldn’t be surprising.
Amazing collection. I do however have a question. Aren't you at least tempted to negotiate to keep just one of those amazing cards for your PC? I know you PC Ripken but personally my oldest card is a 55 Koufax so I'd love to own any pre war baseball. I can't afford any of the pre war baseball greats. Thanks for sharing Chris.Mike and John are great hobby guys and to do a deal with them is great I'm sure.
I’m happy for you and Mike and all others involved with the purchase. However, please don’t get me as wrong as I have respect for you , Mike and John’s integrity as people, But as far as the seller I can’t stop feeling bad for him thinking that he made a mistake excepting the 120K by either not asking for more or even with the fee going the auction house route. You, yourself said there was far too much value to pass it up at that price. Which going by some of the key cards you showed seems obvious. For that reason I can’t help feeling bad for the seller as it appeared he vastly undersold it. Especially, since it was a family collection. Again, no judgements/ just my humble opinion. Thanks for sharing 😂❤️
@@BaseballCollector sure, I’m not faulting you guys/ in fact replacing you guys with the shop owner makes me feel even more certain that the seller made a huge mistake as he didn’t even get 120K because correct me if I’m wrong but I imagine the card shop took his cut before flipping it to you guys. Thanks for responding- I’m happy for you- empathetic for the seller that he didn’t do better for his family’s heirloom. Good Collecting👍❤️
Congrats Chris! If you have a few minutes to chat at the Mid Atlantic card show. I'll have some Pre-War questions that I would like to ask you. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Take care.

This is one major concern that I wud have ( not saying that he wud, will, or did... First! 🙂 And I love the preview video! I knew that a full recap was going to take awhile considering the wait on graded cards and then at least a few months to sell. But a nice teaser video hits the spot. I can't help but think of the Simpsons episode where Martin, Millhouse, and Bart all go in on a deal to buy Radioactive Man #1. I'm glad this deal worked out better than that one!
In the mid 2000s when I was dealing cards on eBay I was also playing a little online poker, needless to say for me it was the gig economy a decade early. It made me understand the idea of a bankroll. If I had a chance to buy a big collection I would not have 40k to buy, but now I have a regular this I have no need to build a bankroll. You often talk about money & time to sell. Do you have advice on managing a bankroll when you need to manage your cash to do your business. Do you keep a certain amount in your account or is jermey your bankroll so to speak?
Prob just has enough saved and knows when a deal is good enough to jump on. Its not like poker where any deal could be a total loser. Deals like this are very uncommon/once in a lifetime.
as a european the "in cash" part is absolutely crazy to me. like something out of a movie. escpecially with the european parlament just signing a new law that doesnt allow cash tanstactions above 10k euros. but it rarely happened anyway. Everything is bank transfer here. As the german saying goes: "Die spinnen, die Amis" ("The americans are crazy").
Cash cant be traced. Gov's want everyone on digital so they can lock you out when you say something they dont like. Cards are another store of value outside the system.
Do you think the store owner you bought them from could have just given them to one of the large auction houses and made more than 120k and not had to worry about the hassle of selling them himself or was it a more prudent deal to sell them all to you guys?
Probably not as the collection was entirely ungraded (other than 13 cards). There was lots of bulk (tens of thousands of 60s/70s commons). Most major auction houses dont accept entire collections in that manner (a few might).
EVER SAW A 10FT X10FT WALL MADE OF 86 FLEER CASES....I HAVE...HEHE😮tried to get cajun cardboard to show some interest but he went with a cheaper collection...
Why did you remark booth guys as fool's? Is it a inside joke? I'm curious what cards did you keep for yourself. Was the Texas Snow Man out of the country when this awesome collection came up for sale? Any 52 Topps Mantles in the collection?
The private party who sold it to the card shop sold it for $30-40,000. So the shop owner made 4x on the collection. On one hand you’d hope the card shop owner would educate the person on the collection. On the other hand it’s the parties responsibility to know what they are selling..difficult to place “blame” per se, but the private party certainly sold it for way too cheap..

Maybe the purchase should be renamed to "a really nice collection", because "grail" really needs to be reserved for the proper cards. I'm sure a profit can be had from this collection, but it's really mostly common vintage stuff. I'm assuming we've seen the best cards ? No Mantle rookie or Honus Wagner in the next video ?
