  • The drowning death of Houston Police Department employee Russell Richardson during Monday's downpour reignited the outcry for protective barriers at our city's chronically flooding underpasses. FOX 26's Greg Groogan reports more on the call to action for flood gates.

I have a workmate whose husband works for a power company up here in N-TX. Last week, he was in OK dealing with power outages - then he got the call over the weekend to go to Houston. So he drove 8 hours to your city to help get things up and going. Why am I telling you this? Because his wife got a video from him today of people cussing at him, throwing rocks and bottles at his crew members and having a hissy fit because someone brought these linemen some cold cut sandwiches. Really? Why?
I understand the frustration and the heat, I spent two of the worst years of my life in Houston. I also understand that living on the coast means you better be ready to take care of yourself for a week or so while hard working linemen struggle to get your AC back on.
These men sleep in their trucks because the hotels nearby are filled to capacity. They don't have the option of searching out a cooling station for some respite from the heat. And they don't see their families for weeks on end. So you want to throw things at these men, maybe make one of them lose their balance and fall into one of those power lines. Would that get your lights on faster?
Shame, shame, shame on these folks who are so wrapped up in themselves that they can't find some way to help the others around them, especially the crews that are working 16 hours per day, trying to help Houston. BIG, BIG black eye for some of Houston!!!

well, I'd let them deal with it. I wouldn't help them with that attitude. There's something about Htown folks, their bad attitude is bigger than their need. No joke.

I’m so sorry to hear this! People knew to prepare for this ahead of time even if it didn’t hit. God sees their hearts and will have to answer for decisions made. Line men/women aren’t the problems! People need to realize they can’t work on an area if trees are covering it. It’s not their jobs to remove trees so maybe these citizens should help with removal.

As a Houston resident, I am so grateful for those that help us, and apologize on behalf of those that are ungrateful. It sickens me that people just want someone to shake their fist at and pass blame. It's a cat 1 hurricane, this is what always happens. It's why houses are slightly cheaper in the Houston metro than the other Texas metros

They should go out only for medical emergencies, not trying to rescue dumb people out of flooded cars. Tired of seeing that on TV, they choose to go out and drive, let them get out of the flood waters on their own. The orders should have been Stay at home Don't Drive.. but people don't listen
