That Forester has almost 9" of clearance. Even still, because of the way that the underside of a Subaru is designed, everything is almost perfectly flat meaning that the car can slide along the snow without getting diffs or t-cases hung up.

My Subaru has studded snow tires on in winter. Spinning the tires is almost impossible. This guy would get through snow faster if he’d let up on the gas pedal.
They are great cars, but frankly I wouldn't put my Subaru through that just for a video to post. That probably took a year off the lifespan of the car! Just shovel or snowplow the driveway!! They probably did anyway right after they shot this!! Yes, it can do it, but why do it if you don't have to? Why put all that stress on the engine and transmission? Save it for when you are really stuck.
Stress on the engine? As long as it’s not overheating and they do regular oil changes you can bounce off a rev limiter all you want. The only damage done here is possibly tire wear and everyone stuck indoors feelings.

Meh, older Subarus were better. Especially the ones with manual transmissions. The MT Subies had special, limited slip center differentials. They didn't rely on ABS voodoo back then. And it made them better than most Wranglers unless the Wrangler had a locking center diff and limited slip front and rear diffs. Automatic Subies did not have the limited slip diffs, so they were a big step down in snow or off-road conditions. Nothing special really. The new ones are no better off road than any AWD Nissan, Toyota, or Honda.
I love my Subaru I just got my tires changed with some of the best snow cross climate tires there are and even before them with ratty tires it did great last winter no trouble what do ever
Anything with 4x4 and decent winter tires would plow through that like nothing. Everyone has this big conception that Subaru's awd is so superior to 4x4 but it's only really good on slippery roads, sand and ice
@@Nordkampf no one said it’s superior than 4 x 4, but it also depends what all wheel drive system you’re comparing to what 4 x 4 system. And you’re incorrect, Subarus are not just good on snow, ice, and sand. You wouldn’t take a stock 4 x 4 truck to Moab. I mean you can, but there’s certain obstacles you couldn’t go over. So you have to invest in your rig. There are people that invest in their Subarus and take them to Moab as well. They customize them to rock crawl. It all depends on money. My 4runner could drive through the snow. My Impreza could too. But, if you’re in the market to buy a car, why not spend 20 something thousand on this, versus 55,000 on a 4runner? How did you removed the traction control? I have 21 sport and no way i can do this without the traction control kicking in even if the switch is off or on x mode. Pretty desapointed!!!
On my 23 sport, there are two different x modes. The deep snow/mud disables traction control. There's also a separate button that disables traction control under and to the left of the steering wheel.

An experienced and sensible driver would have gone through that without ever going over 3,000 rpm. You just need to be gentle on the gas as you go forward a couple of feet, reverse, go forward another couple of feet. Wash rinse and repeat until momentum eventually takes you through it all the way. That driver is an idiot and I wouldn't pay 5 cents for that car now after the engine and transmission got smoked like that.
@@wiskatesnow So then you should already know when one uses the rocking technique, you don't keep reverse 'plowing' into the snow. The track you made up to that point is already there and cleared. You just back up gently a couple of feet, then forward a couple of feet, then back again to the maximum point where you were stuck, then forward again until you gain another few feet from the point you couldn't move further on the last cycle. You keep doing that until you clear a 'runway' where the ultimate goal is to gain enough momentum to get out of the area altogether.
