Thinking back to the slightly uncanny Odyssey and Luigi’s Mansion 3 renders that went a bit too far by giving them hyper realistic individual hairs and teeth, this is a bit nicer.
No matter the era I'll always love Mario's iconic look! It's one of those character designs that's easy to become better and better but near impossible to mess up and this proves it!

They found that happy medium from the hyper-realistic Odyssey render with all the human hairs being visible. Ew. They’ve gone to… cartoony with some fabric texture. But he just looks better this way and the colors still being retained is so good. It’s easy to wash out the blue in a denim texture, but they kept a vivid yet real texture that feels like something you can touch. Everything is so spot on with this design.
Over the years, I love how Nintendo has managed to give Mario more realistic details while still keeping the classic look. The only official design that has really tried to push the boundary between realistic and cartoon was Movie Mario's design, which kept the essence of the original, but is different enough to be considered a variation rather than an iteration. Modern Mario however will keep upgrading more and more for the years to come, and if Switch 2 rumours are true, then it might be sooner than we think!

I personally like the 2023/odyssey version as it’s a nice blend between the two styles While the new one’s texture is more visible (most notably the enlarged Jean texture) it does make Mario look more smaller and more toy(?) like along with his hair appearing more like wood than hair
It's not too detailed like the model used for the Mario movie with individually rendered hairs and whatnot but it has enough detail to differentiate each texture instead of everything looking like its made from one homogenous substance, all while still keeping the exact same shape of Mario. I like it, it's a simple but fresh coat of paint

First, you can have glasses-wearing girls take them off and suddenly become beautiful, or have girls wearing glasses flashing those cute grins, or have girls stealing the protagonist's glasses and putting them on like, "Haha, got your glasses!" That's just way too cute! Also, boys with glasses! I really like when their glasses have that suspicious looking gleam, and it's amazing how it can look really cool or just be a joke. I really like how it can fulfill all those abstract needs. Being able to switch up the styles and colors of glasses based on your mood is a lot of fun too! It's actually so much fun! You have those half rim glasses, or the thick frame glasses, everything! It's like you're enjoying all these kinds of glasses at a buffet. One weird addition of Mario renders is in Super Smash Bros Brawl where his skin and his hair and mustache is plastic while this outfits such as his overall has a realistic look its a weird mix.

Much like how Mario Odyssey exists as THE Game of this century (and also what brought the design shown here in the first place), they may as well do what I like to call the internet's jokes at this point themselves for their prime mascot. They got the money too, and seems passionate about it of all game series.
Realistic Mario is a good one that did bring nostalgic back, the plastic-y is only the beginning from the past, and now, the future is here, the Super Mario got way more detailed than before. ^^
