I’ll be picking up the physical version. These “end of console life” Nintendo games always end up becoming pretty rare. I actually like the game too. I think the stages get pretty addictive later on in the game.

Preordered the physical months ago. Donkey Kong on the GameBoy is one of my favorite GB Games ever. Had to have this one.
I remember as a child never making it past the beginning when it's like your playing the arcade game. I couldn't have been any older then 6 or 7. I came back to it sometime when I was in my early teens to try it and was blown away what came after the intro. It really is such a great gb game!

I loved Donkey Kong 94 and recently played this game on my 3DS and can attest that unlike the several "march of the minis" sequels which are about guiding the minis, this one feels similar as a sequel to that game! It's puzzles with a bit of platforming, and you'll catch several little sound effect and gameplay nods to the original.
@@andreweilermusic I wish we could've gotten proper sequels, with this style of actually controlling Mario. The minis got oversaturated fast 😮💨.

I was going to buy it anyways but after the demo and seeing how clean it looks, how smooth it runs and how fun it is its a definite buy for me. Amazing what a demo of quality does huh.

The more I play it, the more I like it. 2D Mario platforming and puzzle-solving with fun physics. What's not to like?!

I want it, but I can wait for a small price drop or buy used.
I played the original so much as a kid. Played the demo asap and it felt just like how i remembered. A couple changes i noticed was that you don't have to jump on top of things to pick them up. Except for cans and enemies. I also noticed that Mario doesn't fall on his back when jumping from high places.
I wondered about the not “splatting” from high falls thing, but just figured it was that way in the original. Even though I never played the original, I noticed right away because that’s what happens in DK’94, which I love. You tumble from a certain night, splat momentarily before getting up from bigger fall, and land on your head and die from an even bigger fall.
Must say I got a lot of Mario games for my switch …3d. All stars , 3d Mario, Mario rpg, Mario kart, as far as Nintendo big games into 2024 I’m looking forward to grabbing this

This is a game I wouldn’t get day one. I’d wait for a sale or someone selling it for $30 or less on marketplace.
I grew up with the GBA version, and it definitely gets pretty hard and complicated as you go. Especially if you want the star ranking its hard, you pretty much have to speedrun it
And then u finally finish all 6 stages and there’s even more after that ! I thought I had passed the game

Boy, Nintendo really is giving us the remakes that we’ve definitely been asking for /s
I loved thos GBA game, but $50?!?!?! This is a $30 *at most*. Nintendo is just being greedy at this point. This was nowhere near AAA levels of development to justify that price.
It's great for quick sit-down and puzzle play. Loved the original and am happy that they updated it for the Switch!

I recently played through the GBA game (it was a 3DS Ambassador game!)
And for anyone interested but on the fence on what it's like--there are definitely some deeper challenges as the game goes on. If you get good enough at platforming and triple jumps etc, you can also overcome certain challenges a little easier and feel like you earned it. +, It does all of the worlds twice! (normal levels, and then after the final boss, there's "plus" levels with a new objective and feel).
$50 seemed too steep for me for what this is, hence playing the original instead since I had access...but I do think the demo looked and played nicely and the levels will be high quality and give a few hours of playtime for anyone who decides to purchase.

The physical chip costs a good $20 easy!
The voucher system has affected my perception on price. Mario Wonder and Tears of the Kingdom are the same price as this and those are vastly better experiences. While this was fun on GBA, I will not be getting this at the launch price.
I’ll pick it up but no rush. I’ve played this series on Wii U and other consoles. If it ever gets a 30% or more discount then sure. It should’ve dropped at $40.

It would be cool if they added in like Super Mario World and maybe Mario Paint and just consider it a collector bundle

Most of the $50 Switch games go in sale often
Wario Ware, Switch Sports and Miitopia were $30 the same year they came out

I think I am going to cave in and get it….I enjoyed the 3ds and WiiU versions but never played this one…..don’t care for the pricing, but it looks too cool to pass up….

I loved donkey Kong on the gameboy but missed this on the gba. I will be picking it up at some point soon.
I’ll be checking it out but I’m really just interested in the additional content. Played the original a ton, have it on my everdrive. But because Nintendo I’ll check it out 😂
Got this not too long ago for under €30 and ive been having a fantastic time playing this. Its just what i needed from playing 3d adventure/shooter games... its just a very charming mario puzzle game, never played this game on the gba.
If the Switch 2 doesn't come out this year we all are like DK and break into the 'Big N Toy Company' 😅
What's great for me is that I was always a Playstation/Xbox gamer. Most of these games on Nintendo are absolutely new to me. Mine arrives tomorrow. Physical copies only.

Played the demo. I recognize what he means by the stiff controls. I believe this is on purpose to mimic how mario moves on the original Donkey Kong for atari.
This is like a $25 game tops. There are indy games similar to this that are $10 or less.
This is a must buy for me

They should've remastered the gameboy version of mario vs donkey kong, or donkey kong, as it was called. That would've been better. This one is still a pretty good game though.
The game play mechanics to me felt very chunky drove me nuts. I unfortunately could not get into it.

I bought the first game on the original gameboy for £4 and loved it. But I probably wouldn't pay £50 for it.
Never played the original, just got the Switch game. It's about what I expected, still early on so I'm guessing that the difficulty will go up, but I like it.
I preordered it, and played the demo. I played the original, and I grew up with donkey Kong 94 on Game Boy, so it’s definitely nostalgic for me.

It is a preference thing. I bought the game yesterday and couldn’t stop playing. I found it to be challenging in some levels however had ton of fun.

Nintendos problem, or maybe our problem. Is Nintendo never made their games more challenging, its always been hand holding. Even older pokemon was harder than new pokemon games. If they are going to remake these games they should make them harder.

I got a $50 gift card for Christmas and I have everything else I want for now. Guess my gift card goes to this, it’ll be a fun little couch co op with my wife.

I pre-ordered this months ago. Can’t wait to play, especially as I never played the original GameBoy advance game and it looks as though the same level of love and care they put into Super Mario RPG is clear to see.
Cool looking game but $50 I think is too much. I’d like to see it knocked down to $40 at least. It doesn’t look like a whole lot of time or budget was put into this one, though I’d imagine it’s still a fun game. I’ll probably buy it at some point eventually (because near end of life games tend to be a bit valuable), but I’m holding off a bit when I knock a good portion out of my backlog.
I'd say it's going to be $30-$35 during the holidays. I got enough backlog to keep me busy.
The only thing that would make this worth getting is if you can play as Donkey Kong.

Side thought, thirty dollars in 2004 adjusted for inflation today 48.72. So really from that standpoint it's a good enough deal, if you enjoy it enough anyhow

2D Nintendo games all look the same to me these days. There are slight artistic differences or variations in frame rate, but they release so many 2D rainbow cartoons that they all blend together now.
At least Metroid looked different by default.
