Great lecture! One correction: Hemoglobin SC Disease is a variant of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Patients have a baseline higher hemoglobin, but they often are symptomatic throughout life and do not require a "stimulus" to become symptomatic. Patients experience pain crisis, vaso-occlusive episodes, avascular necrosis of the bone, acute chest syndrome, etc - just as patients homozygous for the Hemoglobin S mutation. Just wanted to make sure this was clear because SCD can be challenging in this way. Thank you again so much for the lecture!

Hi, in this lecture you say that in Hb S disease the beta chain interacts with the adjacent alpha chains, but in your sickle cell video you say that the abnormal beta subunit of one haemoglobin comes in close proximity with the beta subunit of an adjacent deoxy haemoglobin molecule, there are two nonpolar amino acids, that the valine can interact with either valine 88 or phenylalanine 85. So does the abnormal beta subunit on one Hb interact with the adjacent alpha subunit or adjacent beta subunit of another Hb? Thanks!
