Great VS🌟😂.. Yeah RP-01 cassette looks better overall can't deny that. I couldn't see myself getting rid of my TT Cassette 😉

The TT tape didn't compromise by being mostly red. That was the way the original toy, also made by TT, was.
It is the toon tape that was a compromise. The stripes were probably too difficult to animate, so they just made up an alternate simple color blocking scheme.
And that is my biggest problem with the toon accuracy trend. I'm totally down with making the bot modes have toon proportions versus the original toy block shapes. But when the toon simplified things for animation ease, sacrificing detail, I don't see that as a virtue to be idealized and duplicated. I see that as a loss to be avoided.
FT wins this on bot mode for me. But I'm not about to switch.

Ive got 4 sets of tapes; but the new RP looks like the king. We definitely need buzzsaw and ratbat RP MPs announced like right now. Id even buy a RP-2 Soundblaster to get a RP Ratbat.
The new RP cassette is a mile better than the old cassette, but I personally don't care about that since I use MMC cassettes for my display so it's going to sit inside my RP-01 chest for all eternity

It wouldn't change the outcome (or even the point as I'll get to), but I do wonder how Takara would price Frenzy these days. I honestly don't think the decade old price would hold anymore.
Of course the MP Cassette value has other variables as well. The US release (if you managed to get one at retail as opposed to scalped) was an even better value getting Soundwave and 5 Cassettes. Then there is the fact that with MMC and FT having their versions out there now MP Frenzy could be had cheap (though many on eBay are almost certainly KOs at this point). There are actually 2 fools that have Frenzy and Ravage listed for over $300 on eBay right now....
I'd say the FT/RP Frumble has a bit more hollowness on his back simply due to the fact it looks like his thighs are hollow also. Just my 2c though as neither would be collecting dust somewhere due to the MMC tapes I've got.
Except Laserbeak. he alone is sitting on Soundwave's arm because the MMC one is just too freaky big.
Still waiting for the RUMBLE vs...on account that Rumble is blue. Lol, come on someone had to say it 🤣

I went by what was written on the box. But I understand lol, fans toys also went with rumble being red as they used the name Fibrir

tricky to do pricing (even though I think takara wins anyway) because soundwave and tapes have been rereleased different ways and different prices. Hasbro did the complete set with soundwave and all the tapes for like 125 recently

Man on 🔥 🔥 🔥 🎶 🎵 great intro! Both are great. I'll be using MMC tapes as stand ins. Back in the day I picked up 2 boxes of crystal 🔮 light purple energon cubes they were associated with Perfect Effects. One of the best accessory pickups I ever made. Anyone else have these energon cubes?

i don´t consider wonky shoulders and hollow legs an upgrade. the shins are just painted and not molded like takara. and takara is not hollow from the back at all. considering the age of the original , it just shows again how far ahead of it´s time mp-13 was and obviously still is.
I'm glad the little guy has got the typical FT quality with materials...but then looking at the hollowness of the figure it kind of fees like lipstick on a pig. Certainly better than the very aging Takara, but I feel FT in 2021 can still do better than these.

FT definitely wins here, however I’m still not a fan of the FT engineering and design with the hollowness. I like are the paint diecast and added headsculpts. I know they are out of scale but I prefer MMC tapes of rumble frenzy and ravage. The only tape that I would buy is Lazerbeak as the MMC tapes are way out of proportion.
MMC Ravage is actually pretty good scale for his jaguar mode, I always assumed there was some mass shifting involved with him in the G1 cartoon.

Comparing these two doesn't seem fair, even though I think RP-01 Frenzy could've been better it completely obliterates the Takara Tomy one.

Thanks for the VS Sony I don't have the takara Soundwave or the tapes so it's really easy 4me to go with Fanstoys, I received him Sunday and I can't put him down the only thing I don't like that gives me a little problem is when turning him to bot mode and flipping the legs out always gotta make things difficult but the paint application on him is beautiful 😍 😉, 🙏🙏📹😃👍

I just realised, a smart but potentially controversial accessory to include with cassettes is gap fillers for in robot mode. One for the gap on the back (it's a separately colored block in the cartoon anyway). Second for the legs. For people wanting their tapes to display better in robot mode but thinks the MMC tapes are too big, this would help a lot no?
Maybe a 4th party can work on add-on kits hopefully

I agree with your final rating but I also agree with Bobby Skullface that these tapes are not very good. With the amount of time they have been teasing these products I expected a lot better for this. I am not a fan of Rumble or Frenzy so it annoys me that they didn't deliver either Laserbeak, Ravage, or Buzzsaw with Soundwave.
The gaps behind his legs and head are not excusable. No waste swivel or ab crunch are not excusable. The way the arms work is a bit of a mess to me. I think they deliver well on the paint and alt mode. Those are where it wins in my opinion. However, looking at that reference I believe they should have worked on how to make the chest wider front to back. Also how do they make the legs contour out front to back to match the reference. If they had closed those gaps and figured out how to make him wider front to back so he actually isn't just transforming in one dimension. I say this because all of the changes are sideways changes that force the robot mode to stay the same width... That is one of the reason why Laserbeak and Buzzsaw are so much more rewarding because their transformations are not stuck to a single plane and just fold out forming a 2D character that doesn't really work from other views. As good as FansToys are U expected them to figure out how to engineer this guy so he looked like he did in the cartoon from the side and the back too. It is by no means an easy thing to engineer but I really wanted them to see them do it.
My son has the Takara Soundwave and I think in many ways he is just as good as the new one. I considered getting this one for my own collection but this tape is definitely not one I wanted with it and for that reason I won't be getting it. The Soundwave figure while great just isn't worth the cost with this afterthought character.
It sounds like Bobby needs to make his own company.

comparing two figures that are years apart in age is a bit lopsided. You're paying 2-3x the cost of the Takara version for a figure that's hollow and has poor engineering. I'm ok with passing on FT 100% for this and for Soundwave. They didn't exactly make the high marks that FT is known for on these figures.
This is not 2-3x more cost. It's $40 versus $30
