Wish Baytown, TX would renovate the city more and put more security out on the streets.

My mom took me to the San Jacinto Mall there in Baytown back in the day when it first opened & I was a little kid at the time. That mall was the place & have had so many great memories of it. Today it only has one store left which is Macy's which'll be closing sometime this year I've heard. Nowadays with most shoppers buying off of Amazon & other companies online, shopping malls are a thing of the past.

I was Born in Baytown in1951. We lived on Fox Drive In Cedar Bayou until 1963. My grandfather retired from Humble now known as Exxon after 40 years in 1955. My mom and oldest brother graduated from Robert E Lee High School which was the only High School in Baytown at that time. I live 800 miles away now but do get to visit there every couple years. Guess I’ll always call Baytown my original home. I was a member of Cedar Bayou Methodist Church. I do know the 3 communities that joined together to form Baytown. Pelly , Goose Creek and Baytown.

Old Baytown and Texas Ave deserves a reup. It is a cool little nostalgic part of town.

Companies that pay well need to hire more Baytown citizens. Most plant workers and medical professionals I know that live in Baytown commute outside of Baytown for work. Companies like Exxon and Methodist Hospital ask the question “Are you willing to commute to Baytown?” as part of the application. It’s sad. It’s so expensive to live here and can’t find a decent paying job.

I’m in Austin but whenever I see really small towns like this in Texas I always imagine what there is to do? And what kind of jobs do the people in this town generally have?

Not much to do. Most go into Houston or surrounding areas. PreCOVID movies were an outlet. We mostly work retail and blue collar jobs. You’re lucky if you know someone who can get you on at a plant, the school district, or hospital.

Yeah, there may be stuff in Baytown, but Houston is the city with the attractions and what not, Baytown is like an edge city

Baytown is no real small town it has a city vive obv being a part of the Houston metro there's tons of actual small towns in Tx. What small town has a mall a downtown a university parks bowling alleys and a hospital.

I lived here for several years in the late 90's and up until 2009. I enjoyed my time there. Housing is affordable, but Baytown is just like any other town, small city....you have your good areas and you have your bad areas. Education system is above average and police dept is top notch. You behave yourself, you'll never see them. Job opportunities abound in the oil and gas and support systems. Close to a lot of cool stuff for entertainment. TexMex cuisine is second to none. Houston night life is thirty minutes away. Beach is 40 minutes. Excellent fishing in all directions. All in all, 7.5 out of 10.

I think it’s better in small towns because the higher ups can easily focus on the issues that occurs in small towns like Baytown, unlike a major city like Houston where it’s kinda difficult to control due to high population and the size of the metropolitan areas
