  • I am excited to be so confident in the mounts for my Jeep Gladiator Truck camper, that are the same 6 locations for the stock bed mounts! This was overall a very fun experience, and the next episode will be all about the first drive and attending the MOORE expo in Springfield, Missouri. What do you think?

The Dodge Mahal was a Legend. I hope in the future you continue to build more rigs and maybe even something bigger than the Dodge Mahal. Enjoy the new Camper!

Love it when on-line people provide solutions!
For those who say this is small, consider how spacious this is compared to a roof top tent.
Lovin this thing. Can’t wait to see how it wheels and compares to the Dodge and the Gladiator with roof top tent.

Galvanic corrosion can be a bugger, glad you insulated it properly.

Such a cool build. I got to see it at the MOORE expo and it looked amazing. Too bad I didn't get to meet you in person, but I'm sure you'll enjoy the camper! Keep up the great content!

Between the steel frame of our 1996 Ford CF8000 and our aluminum box living-quarters, we used standard lumber-yard 1x4 treated... regular wood engineered for ground-contact.
    Nothing fancy.
That was 2003... nearly two decades full-time live-aboard, we see zero degradation.
    .
The trucking industry standard for mounting aluminum equipment to a steel heavy-truck frame is steel U-bolts.
Again, after nearly two decades, we see zero impact of those dissimilar metals.
    .
However, on boats and aircraft, extreme caution is required to limit (not eliminate) galvanic corrosion.
    Example:
    1973, Thailand.
A Douglas A-26 wing fell off during a taxi.
Cause -- the fueling crew used a poor ground, static electricity ate the wing-spar.
In thirty minutes, the aircraft was reduced to scrap from galvanic corrosion.
    .
An hour earlier, we did a four-hour flight in that aircraft.
Our pre-flight showed all parts of the aircraft were air-worthy.
    .
    Thirty minutes.
    Kaput.

Nice work on looking out for the galvanic corrosion. One often overlooked part of that prevention is the mounting bolts. Even if you use stainless the aluminum might corrode. Using some sort of sleeve through the aluminum should remove the potential issue. It's looking great!

I'd far rather have the Dodge Mahal setup, 1 ton with a 5.9 cummins, that's a better overall rig. This Gladiator setup will be slightly better off road but any of these campers are too expensive and have too much time invested in them to be really wheeled so I'd stick with the big boy diesel platforms but that's just me. I have a 7.3 powerstroke econoline build going but I'll never wheel it just use 4x4 to reach my destination.

I am in the process of converting a walk-in contractors cap on the back of a Chevy Silverado HD 2500. it is sooo awesome to see your rigs change as you go. Mine is all metal though and my truck is also an extended cab. Right now it weighs 8720 lbs so, i don’t think i’ll be as far off-road as you get. lol

      With a similar steel canopy -- flip-out sides, interior shelves, lumber-rack, 50-gallon bed-tank -- our 1991.5 Dodge 2500 Cummins 4x4 was 7,850# across the scale.
That was with both tanks full plus two spare wheels/tires plus tools and spare parts.
Rigged for winters on isolated Baja beaches.
      .
We towed the rear-half of a one-ton Ford pick-up with a service-body, chopped under the engine bay, then folded into a hitch.
      .
Weighing 1,000# more than our old Dodge, your Chevrolet must be a stout truck.

Go to this TH-cam channel... Girl In The Woods.... she just posted a great video. Showing perhaps one of if not thee best off grid house / cabin. It is well within the parameters you have expressed having out on your family property. Completely setup as off grid and self sustaining 100 %. Low tech and yet has everything you need. You can piece mill up [add on to as desired / necessary] . Or what ever you desire. The owner provides a very good walk through and explains everything... so you have a great understanding of the reasons. Just extremely well thought out and very efficient place to live... I immediately thought about your desire to build a place.

Boat-builder Sven Yrvind offers daily progress reports about the decisions for his latest circumnavigation.
A couple minutes here, eight minutes there, helps me understand the process of creating a safe reliable rig.
      .
      Same with down2mob.
I enjoy the journey; the destination merely an afterthought.
