  • I can't believe it's happening, but Pyro is actually here. In this Star Citizen pyro gameplay-filled video. I spent roughly 45 minutes, showcasing the wonderful world of pyro (so far) and some missions that didn't completely go to plan. I should stress, that this is a technical preview, so it's okay, but when this all gets polished up, I am seriously hyped for the future of Star Citizen.

    Pyro is amazing. The amount of detail and content in pyro is far beyond anything I expected. More content to come and I'm hyped to explore more of it!

      I think that targeting weapons at random ships is kinda begging for a fight, especially in pyro. (if it wasn't eptu of course)

      i haven’t gotten the pyro play test yet, do you know when others will get it because my mouth is watering with eagerness to play it. I rlly want to play it, will it come out in waves or do i need to by something to play it?

      I finely got pas t the authentication error and now am hitting an error cod 9000. I have yet to even get past the loading screen into the Pyro main menu. Any suggestions?

    I love the tower climb part of this video
    Olli flys in, gets distracted by the Dragonfly, belly lands his 315p without the landing gear, climbs the tower, nearly falls off a few times, and then actually falls off when he tries to climb down a non-existant ladder xD

    Stanton is 5 AU.
    Pyro is 13 AU.
    Nyx is 11 AU. (System where Delamar resides)
    Terra is 12 AU.
    Odin is 21 AU. (System where a good portion of SQ42 takes place)
    Vega is 8 AU. (Where the line was held in the war against the Vanduul)
    Sol is 51 AU.
    Nul is 120 AU. (not a typo 120 according to the starmap on RSI website)
    Edit: I clicked on a couple more systems in the star map.
    Kilian is 194 AU. (fricking 194 AU and has 14 planets)

      I can't even begin to imagine a system 20 times the size of Stanton... 😐
      But even Stanton feels bigger than Starfield's "1000 planets" so contrary to my fears, CIG made the right choice to scale down the number of systems.

    That place, the "Golden Riviera" you did not notice the cages? the Cells? You did not notice the body hanging in a suspended cage? Ollie, do you NOT ever read your screen, notice your surroundings? Clearly you were 'trespassing' on a slaver/outlaw settlement!!

    The team's working on Pyro are primarily the PU teams, like, the "old school" CIG teams, who built the planet and location pipelines and still own them. The additional content that we've been getting in Stanton recently is, for the most part, the consequences of the new Montreal teams. The way CIG has structured it, the "core" teams will build out the asset libraries, the content needed, the tech and features, and hand it off to the other "core teams" that build the first (and second) implementations of Level Design and Planet Design and whatnot for us -- after they have thoroughly built out their visual standard, they upscale additional teams at additional studios and train them, on the visual standard built by the core teams, to build out first smaller variants of the visual standard and then to build increasingly complex content as they upskill new talent. They continue this process, with in this case the Montreal teams building out derelict settlements for Stanton using the asset libraries prepared for them by years of previous content-creation by upstream/more "OG" teams.
    My main point is that the Montreal teams that have been giving us additional content in recent years have an inherently much more limited capacity to create content than the "core teams" which will have been building Pyro from the ground up using all of their collective knowledge and experience from building Stanton up from the ground until they started handing it off to Montreal teams. The Montreal teams follow in the footsteps of the visual standard prepared by CIG.
    The Montreal team(s) working on Stanton still have a much lower capacity to create content than the rest of CIG's studios do; we just don't see very much of the work of those other studios, compared to Montreal (in this context), because most of their work is everything from foundational to hand-off, and now that they have Montreal teams creating sandbox content they don't have as much pressure to release the "major content" they're working on in secret (Pyro, SQ42, potentially other solar systems, etc) because Montreal can provide most of the content needed for quarterly patch releases. Conversely, the "hidden work" being done is inherently far more voluminous than whatever Montreal is capable of, and we aren't likely to see any of it until it's been polished to CIG's new, current "gold standard" visually and mechanically -- such as with 4.0, when we get essentially all of Pyro at once, or the SQ42 release, which frees up downstream content-creators.

      Sounds like what happens when there's a (leadership) management issue at the core. I've said before, SQ42 was a drain on SC resources, but I just get downvotes. Not that SQ42 is bad, just that it drained resources for what should've been CIG focus...perfecting SC. People backing SQ42 say, "no, no, no, it's helping improve SC!" But every new product puts a strain on resources unless you have unlimited resource. Seems like you'd agree at least that there was a split in focus that harmed progress.

      I played on an old Omen laptop for years. SSD, CPU, RAM. That's what you need.

      ​@miketate2575 1440p on a 3080 and 5800x3d maxed out graphics runs great everywhere in the game, mostly depends on the server as there is alot of streaming.
      You can get this or similar hardware used for a fairly cheap price.

    They act like a technical preview is less developed than alpha. Star citizen as a whole is a technical preview.

      I don't know... you're going to have to deliver your load at some point, and that means going to where the people are. As an industrial and cargo player, I don't think I'll be spending much time in this system unless there's stupidly good money to be made and I can afford some wingmen to cover me.

    Stanton is 5 AU in diameter (astronomical unit (AU, or au), a unit of length effectively equal to the average, or mean, distance between Earth and the Sun, defined as 149,597,870.7 km (92,955,807.3 miles), while Pyro is 13 AU...     6:00 If CIG cannot get bounce lighting working, they need to increase ambient lighting. Every room and building seems to have blackout curtains on every window even though you can look out the windows. Even with my blackout curtains in computer room, light is coming into the room from the other rooms adjacent to this room. Also light spills around the edges of my curtains so getting it totally blacked out is near impossible. Yet watching Olli walk into that air lock from outside where it is obviously midday bright, you can barely make out the door even with a lantern trying to illuminate the space. CIG, please put in ambient lighting bulbs to illuminate the areas closer to how they should be lit.

    I think it would be cool if they had the tech to have the planets actually orbit around the sun so depending on when you were playing day of the week or even month the plants could actually be in a completely different place on the Star map. Does anyone know if they have talked about this or is that me just wishing for something that would be way to complicated?

      From what I understand that is an eventual goal and something the planet's themselves are already technically capable of (frankly orbiting bodies is a very simple physics problem in the context of programming a playspace, on it's own), unfortunately you have a lot of problems arise in other systems that are not designed to be rooted to movable locations, and it especially introduces a large variety of problems with graphics rendering (if planets are static, you can really, really simplify how you do your lighting, for example, and not need to update that lighting very frequently besides to account for rotation/day night cycles).
      One big example is quantum travel, which would have to be entirely physicalized first before it could be made compatible with orbiting bodies (the upcoming QT changes do, in fact, physicalize the QT process), so that the quantum travel splines can be calculated to account for the possibilities of how orbital trajectories can change the QT path.
      Another big problem is with synchronizing the location(s) of planets in 3d orbital space (relative to their stars) across servers and shards, which can quickly cause all kinds of design headaches (is it possible for planets to be in different locations of their orbit on different servers? What happens if you save in one location and travel to a new server, do you have to be teleported? Otherwise, do planets have to be synched across all servers, resulting in rubberbanding/lag in planet orbits during server latency? How will the introduction of server meshing fuck up all of these physics calculations, with planets moving at HIGH speeds?)
      Making solar systems fully physicalized with orbital trajectories and all that entails is almost certainly something they want to do, eventually, but I doubt it's very high on their list of priorities given how many systems it has implications for, and how much it can completely fuck up so many systems. I can't see it being something they do anytime soon, unfortunately.

    honestly surprised nobody is commenting on the atrocious landscapes in this game. looks like they allocated everything into making the ships and the natural enviroments were just an afterthought

      I'm doing fine with an Asus Zenbook Pro Duo 15 gets 60-70 fps at 1080p (I9 with RTX3070 & 32GB Ram) But its probably a bit on the expensive side..

      Generally performance is improved with every patch, but it's a roller coaster with ups and downs.

      Did you check your email? You def got it , you just need to look. I'm a KS backer as well , haven't played since 3.18.2 & I got mine within a few hours. Did you scroll down on the launcher for Test Channel? If you're a KS backer , you def have access. o7

    with the sheer size of Pyro, people will start having to time their jumps for optimum fuel efficiency now. having that element being actually important and embedded into the gameplay is really cool
    like, not just refuel stops, but timing when you jump to the next planet when it is the closest! most ships right now definitely can't handle jumping all the way across.

      They don't have planets orbiting oddly enough. Idk if they plan on adding it but it isn't a thing yet.

      As it is, if you want to get to an outer planet in a smaller ship, you will probably need to time your jumps otherwise you’ll run out of fuel. The distances shown on the map are crazy

      @@temhgb idk what you mean by time your jump. They don't simulate orbits. They are stationary. They just spin in place for day night cycle

      Its cool until a 30k, or a crash to desktop, or any of the other million bugs that can happen and ruin your game. This is the type of thing that they need to introduce AFTER they fix a lot of the bugs. Hell, you can even fall out of your ship in quantum. Imagine that happening after 10 minutes of QT and having to start all over.

    Makes me sad I won't have my Zeus ES in time to explore Pyro.
    If they don't nerf the quantum tank of the Lightning, I might just explore Pyro with that one, though I got my fingers crossed for lots of transport beacons and unless they buff the hell out of the E1 compared to the other Spirits and it releases in time, I might have to buy back my good old 400i. However, if master modes make it into the game by the Origin ships with their big shields but terrible hulls won't be able to escape without getting 1shot, but also won't be able to defend themselves well, because escaping with shields up is what they were designed for.

    Hey Olli43 and EVERYONE else who has played since the update.. Are thh frames better? 3.18 or 3.18 RUINED the game for me.. I went from 40-60 fps to 16-25 fps. I UN-INSTALLED SC because of it! I am dying to get back! Im running an i9 9900k with a 2080ti. ANYWAY.. please let me know if you have experienced better frames. Thanks

    I was gonna buy a laptop and Was really excited and happy to play in the free fly event but unfortunately I can't afford the laptop right now. I have to wait more 🥺🥺 These video are the only way i can enjoy Star Citizen.

    They should implement a teamthing. Where pirates are shown as red and guardians as blue.
    They could make missions around that, and makes it easier to see if someone is a killer or not.
    You need some sort of organisationstyle play for soloplayers, otherwise pyro is unplayable.
    It offers changes as well, imagine organisations figthting in space, helping teammates out. A 2 or 4 faction idea would be cool, blue red yellow and green. Every faction with at least one safe spacestation, heavily defended.
    But a place to regroup and have some order

    I love what they did with the ECMs, the warning siren sounds properly spooky like from a monster or alien movie.
    And the scale of the stations and planets is absolutely fantastic. I always felt Stanton planets were too small. They may not be small in size, about 1/4 of IRL planets, but their geography lack scale and depth and the cloud layers are too thin and too low, especially for how ridiculously fast ships are in this game.
    I also adore cyberpunk, including its grimdark side like in Judge Dredd or the Snake Plissken movies, or certain parts of Blade Runner 1 and 2.

      If everybody could fuck around with every little piece of static set dressing, the entire verse would look like a cross between a streamer house and a children's playpen, with vast stretches of barren wasteland where everybody has loot goblin'ed every piece of fauna. It's bad enough already that they aren't instancing mission POI's, which I expect they'll be forced to do (to some extent) with larger shard pops, if the mess wrought upon the POI's in this video are any indication.
