4:55

- I absolutely outdid myself in this competition with a 1st place time of 4:55.580! For those unaware, this was an in-person speedrunning event hosted at PACE Summer 2023 on July 5th where 6 of the best SMB1 runners, myself included, participated in an hour long LTA (Live Time Attack) on stage to see who could get the best time. On the very first run of the event, I got a 4:56.861, then a 4:55.763 2 attempts later, and then after 10 more attempts, I ended up getting this 4:55.580 run! I knew I had the ability to pull off a 4:55 in this event, but getting 2 of them as well as this run with an awesome 8-4 is even more insane to me. This event was an absolute blast, and I long to participate in even more in the future! Also, big thanks to Maximum for editing and fixing the blue light filter my capture had.

having bismuth as the narrator is such a w choice
Exacly
Id say he was more a commentator than a narrator lmao
@@beauhendershot7911imagine if everyone nitpicked every single word of every single communication. We would hate each other forever. Aka, plz stfu no one cares
Other runners : I'll go for 4:57.
Niftski : 4:55. Take it or I'll do 4:54
lmao
dude i misread that as "4:54:580 in a Live Speedrunning Competition" i was *_done_*
This man is the current AndrewG of our era. A man, getting so many records at such a crazy pace. This man will be engraved in SMB1 history forever. GG Niftski on this race!
The comparison is even better since Niftski has now held the Any% WR for the 2nd most days, behind AndrewG
@@MeesterTweester let's just say, when AndrewG was at the top, there were almost no one as good as him. Niftski is the best while there're a lot of good and great speedrunners like Miniland, Kosmic, Nebula, Tree_05, jscarbo and others. Niftski is creme de la creme of SMB speedrunning community with it is at its highest.
better honestly
@@FullAltOsuI think it depends on how invented the tricks. I remember reading that Andrew did a lot of the innovating and designing the run himself. But I don't remember the details. Invention is a whole different level from refinement.
@@EGarrett01 most things in this game besides flagpole glitches were pretty solved by 2004
“He’s cheating because he uses keyboard”
**Gets a 4.55.580 live on original hardware in 1 hour**
Yup
yeah it wasn’t too long ago Niftski was hounded with cheating accusations with his recent near frame perfect run 😂
its piss lame that he plays on pc with keyboard tho
@@user-ny7el1sp6h nah, it’s cool as hell
also gets 4:54 at live pracc during the event, lol
Niftski casually swapping from keyboard to controller just to utterly destroy the competition with 1st try 4:56 and then 4:55 twice. Insane performance
We are witnessing a legend in the making. We’ll probably never see anyone like him again if he gets the TAS in SMB. Enjoy every moment people!
Definitely won't get anyone like him again considering how close the records are to perfection now. Maybe someones similar, but the game is mostly played out, so you can't expect someone like him again just based on how close the records are to perfection.
@@billj4525 he claims, as of right now, that .3 is his endgame. If that’s the case, we’ll be waiting another decade before the TAS tie. Either that or some 13 year old will do it out of nowhere.
I was watching live with a friend when Darbian got the first sub-4:56. It blows me away that your first run was faster than a barrier that, like 7 years ago, seemed like such a pipe-dream (pun intended).
absolutely goated dude this run was fucking insane
also my "BRO NO WAY" at the end lmao
Do you realize how insane this is, right? In a live event, different environment, many factors taking into place makes this unbelievable, congrats
Even though I absolutely know that these guys can do it, it still tickles me silly every time they just call out the exact time after finishing a speedrun, to the frame, to the millisecond. Haha.
Only in Mario!
I read the title as 454.5 and was losing my mind
Your content is addicting, I swear! Awesome run!
The calm "let's go" after he gets bowser is gold
Niftski imagine if in this event you did your current WR like you did in the stream holy shit people would be crazy like the daigo parry
Oh man, the Daigo Parry....
wow! So impressive! One of the best speedrunners of all time and great pop offs!
I knew I stayed until 2 A.M. for a reason
how does he just casually look at the ceiling mid run, that is just impressive.
The split times
Hikaru moment
He's looking at the big screen with the other runners's screens on it so he can see where they are. What else are you gonna do while you wait for the next level?
It's during a level transition where he isn't in control of Mario, how is that difficult to do?
This man is the goat
Being able to in-person see this skill displayed live was really amazing and i’m glad i got to be around and help with this event. legendary stuff !!

omg congrats!!
Congratulations!

It’s actually crazy seeing this game at its limit. There’s like 2 frame saves then it’s tied, WITH TAS. That’s crazy man good stuff
doing this irl and on console is crazy. GGs Niftski!
4:55.580 in a Live Speedrunning Competition

I’m afraid Niftski might be the guy who officially kills SMB1 speedrunning.
Just glad I’m alive in this era of the game. All love. ❤️
I don't know anything about speedrunning and have nothing to do with the community but I've heard you're awesome and I came to say good work and GG's

Niftski is way too good for his own good. Even TAS makers are impressed.
He’s on another planet against the best in the world.
He’s too good.
Considering the absolute insanity posted on this channel on a seemingly-daily basis, it's criminal that Niftski doesn't have at least 100K subscribers. If you're reading this, go bug all your gamer friends to sub to this man. He deserves it.

who would believe you if you said this stuff was happening in live events to someone 5 years ago as darbian or andrewg set their records

Bismuth was there AAAAAA
I always pictured you with really long spongebob arms
Ludicrous talent. I usually never subscribe to any speedrunning channel.
The only exceptions I have are @Xem and @ThaRixer.
Both of which are best known for Ratchet and Clank. Also Jak and Daxter for Ricky.
But, wow dude. You have such an absolute talent.. you are almost certain to be the best to ever touch this game at this point.
I await seeing just how close to perfection you can push this game. 🥳
It was a safer speedrun with less dangerous tricks that might end the run early... but what a run it was. Safe, but still a mid 4:55.
I find it funny how this is consider safe when is a whole 4 frames faster than the 4:55.646 that Kosmic got and most of us considered impossible to beat 😅
@@ikercalderon163 time flies really fast. What once was saw as impossible nowadays is a much easier thing to do.
@@teo_heel yeah, I know. I just wanted to point out it 😅
But tbh a mid 4:55, even to this day, is very hard. Idk if the info Kosmic had back then and niftski has now (for a mid 4:55) is very different tho. A ton of credit has to be given to niftski for making look easy this kinda stuff
@@ikercalderon163 I think Niftski with his sum of best at 4:54.265 (ties the no L+R TAS)... he knows quite a lot. He knows how to achieve a relatively easier mid 4:55 run.
@@teo_heel niftski ties the tas in 2 segments, yeah. But the tricks needed for a mid 4:55 are the same today that they were in like 2018. The only thing that changed was the subpixel manipulation that I believe AndrewG found in like 2017-18 in 1-2 (just beat the level without slowing down). You can have more knowledge about a game, but the tricks are the same so there is no strat advantage there. The strat advantage nifstki got helped him in 8-2, maybe in 8-1, I'm not fully sure, and in 4-2. The rest of the levels (at this speed, 8-4 had some evolution at higher levels) are almost identical in all ways to Kosmic's run.
Well, I believe that's true that 8-3 had a slightly easier subpixel manipulation, but it's not any huge revolution

Where are these events held? also nice job bro
This event was held in Laurel, MD, on July 2nd thru 8th and was hosted by GSA (Global Speedrun Association)
What’s the meaning behind “8-J pace”?
8-J describes the 8-4 speed / bowser pattern frame i am going to get, and i knew based on my 8-4 speed that i was most likely going to get that pattern, and i did

Niftski is made out of clutches.
Who are the 6 runners in this ?
me, nebula_composer, kosmic, eddiecatgaming, jscarbo, and simplistic
was that on console?
Yes
Craziest thing is you’re controller CRT. Not that it’s harder but i’d assume your muscle memory would be at a disadvantage relative to the others
my muscle memory carried over for the most part, the main thing was getting used to the feel of controller + 1 frame less of input delay, but i didn't really see any difference in gameplay once adapting
