I finally finished my DIY glycol chiller and installed the Temp twister and thermowell on my two all-rounders. I messed up drilling my first set of lids and bought pre-drilled lids from Williams brewing. Had trouble getting the one install to be pressuretight. Great video. I just ordered a new All-Rounder set-up, but since you do a bit of fashioning yourself I had a question. Do you think there is a way to add a 3rd male thread to the lid so that you can attach a female ball value with a carbonation tee to do closed dry hopping? You could attach a PET bottle to the top of the tee and a ball lock to CO2 purge the hops to the other side of the tee, then open the ball valve and dispense the hops into the brew. Or I could be WAAAAAYYYYY overthinking this method. Hahaha. Thanks in advance for your response.

A video on pressure fermentation would be great. From reading some of the comments, sounds like not all styles/yeast benefit from this? I’m new to this hobby, and looking at potential upgrades from the basic starter kit. Thanks.
It reduces esters in the yeast, sometimes you want that character. It's a matter of preference. There are styles that I think are great for it though. 👍🍻
I would love to learn more about pressure fermenting. Ive done it once so far but would like to know more about the ins and outs of why and at what PSI. Thanks Brian! Always good stuff! Sláinte!
Question about pressure fermenting as I'm brand new to this but just picked up the All Rounder. At about 3:45 you mention that you didn't pressurize the tank at all and just let it naturally pressurize. Is this standard? Can I expect to just pitch my yeast, set my spunding valve to say 10psi and then just let it do its thing? I've seen others do a burst of CO2 right after pitching but I'm curious if that is needed. Thanks!
Yes you can do it either way. I would suggest you adjust your spunding valve to make sure it's set properly. You can do that by pressurizing a keg and putting your spunding valve on a keg and then adjust it down to the pressure you want. That way you make sure that you're not going to over pressurize the vessel.
Brian, I noticed on the shot of the closed loop transfer I don't see a CO2 tank in the loop, how did you do this? I have been using your old method but this picture intrigued me, please share.
Pressurize the keg to match the fermzilla, attach the "out" from the fermzilla to the "out" on the keg, purge a little pressure from the keg until you see the flow start. Then connect the "in" on both vessels with the jumper. It is really just a siphon that you are doing, so gravity is doing the work.
Great video. Wondering if you had any issues with the floating dip tube getting clogged and then effecting the closed transfer. If so any tips on getting around that.
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers Sometimes hops or krausen residue just stagnating near the attachment to the floater, or at least it looks like it. Still a great fermenter though, I use them all the time.
Is it possible to take a hidrometer sample during fermentation or you only determine It is done fermenting by looking at the beer? Thank you, another awesome video Brian, I'm about to start fermenting under pressure thanks to your amazing videos!
What I do is use a picnic tap and then run it through a coffee filter to make sure that the CO2 is scrubbed from the wort. (Fermenting under pressure carbonates the beer and that would throw off your reading, that's why I do that) hope that helps! Cheers 👍🍻
I'd like to see a video covering how to very simply explain how to "set" a sounding valve. All the pressurised fermentation videos I've seen show you where the parts go, be always seem to say "set the spunding valve to X and then plug it in here" they never seem to go over how to set the valves properly.
I'd like to see more videos on pressurized fermentation. One question: Does this work for small batches? It seems like you completed a small batch brew there? All I do nowadays is small batch and would love to speed up the fermentation process which I assume this does? Okay, maybe I have more than just one question... Great video!
Do I understand this? You did not pressurise? It was the yeast that built up the pressure? What was the pressure? How fast did it reach it? And is this sufficient to avoid bad esters from the yeast? I ask because I just bought this all rounder, and still have not bought a CO2 tank. Thanks a lot for good videos.
Yes that is 100% correct the yeast builds pressure from expelling CO2 during fermentation. It builds pressure pretty quick from no pressure to 10 or 12 PSI probably takes a few hours once active fermentation starts. It does slightly carbonate the beer more carbonation may be needed. Also there's not enough pressure built up to be able to dispense the entire amount of beer in the fermenter. You also need to have a spunding valve if you're going to ferment under pressure to be able to release the pressure at a given point. I would not exceed 15 psi btw.
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers Thanks a lot. Yes, I bought the kit with the spunding walve and the ball. I will try David' Heat's vienna with kveik and let it pressurise itself. Might get a CO2 tank for the full carbonation and dispencing though, as I understand you. I enjoy you videos a lot, beeing new to brewing. Greetings from Norway.
Hello Brian...Hope you and the family are safe and healthy. I just watched the video from Homebrew Challenge where you talked about the complete closed system transfer by connecting the fermenter to the keg the beer will end up in. I have a question...can this also be used as a great failsafe to have an additional pressure relief valve in the mix from the keg? Just incase something goes wrong with the Spunding Valve?
I'd love to have one of these, but I don't think it will fit in my fermentation fridge - I think it is too fat. (I am using big mouth bubblers and they are skinny - like 13.5" or 14" in diameter. Yes, I hate the lid.) Do you think you can brew larger batches of beer because you don't need as much headspace? Great video - I do love me some Kegland gear...I'm gonna go install my Kegland secondary regulators this afternoon. Cheers!
Damn I had no idea you could make lagers at 70F. I always wanted to make a hoppy lager but never could. I just ordered a Anvil stainless bucket too. Maybe I should have me ordered this. Thanks for the video!
Hello Brian. When you ferment under temperature, do you let the process to build up the pressure by itself or do you pre-pressurize the vessel and then let the fermentation to start already under pression?
As I had shown in the video I start with no pressure and let it build up pressure on its own. I leave it under pressure the entire time and transfer to keg under pressure as well. 👍🍻
That's kind of subjective. it would have to be made specific to the vessel in order to be accurate. I would say your best bet is to weigh water and mark it with a sharpie and then put some vinyl numbers on it based on your markings.
@@OASISBLISS for pressure fermentation you need a spunding valve and you would have a steady pressure maintained with the spunding valve relieving pressure during the fermentation
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers OK should I rely on just the co2 coming from ferm, or supplement with a co2 line hooked up as well? Also, when cold crashing should I turn the co2 off or turn it up?
First brew using the All Rounder. I did not place it under pressure as I was going to let it happen naturally. However, I’m noticing a few hours after sealing everything up, the walls of the fermenter are being sucked in. What would cause this? When I pull the release valve, gas gets released and the walls somewhat return to normal. Any ideas?
They look like seams, it goes around the entire circumference horizontally and vertically. I can also feel it, almost like it’s slightly raised. I took some photos, can I send them to you to look at?
It is partially carbonated. It does still need additional carbonation, but not much. Has to do with the temperature of the fermentation, at 68f the beer won't absord as much CO2 as if it were at 35-40 degrees. 👍🍻
I don't know if it has been already asked, sorry if I'm repeating. But, with Fermzilla, how can you transfer your beer (after carbonated in the fermenter) into bottles? Can the oxygen be reduced or eliminated in this process?
Thanks, I thought on that, but I was thinking in alternative to use the pressure to fill the bottle with the Brew Bottler, like this one: shop.grainfather.com/brew-bottler.html What do you think of that?
The all-rounder is a great fermenter.. it's probably the sweet spot price wise for a plastic fermenter like this. I've felt that the other Fermentasaurus' and Fermzilla's are too big and too expensive for their theorecial limited lifespan of being pressure capable. $50 is a good pricepoint. You can go thru 8 of these for the same pricepoint of something like the Flex+.
Ideo idea! 10gallon batch split, One lager is under pressure and the other is a brulosophy "short and shotty method" to see the difference. Ps your arms aren't that big, you even lift bro.💪

I agree.. They didn't send me one and they were sold out.. 👍🍻
This review answered all my questions. Thanks!
Glad you found it helpful!!
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers Thanks Brian, I'll give this a go next time, might save some CO2.
Thanks Brian, some how I missed this video. Great review, now I need to try mine out.
Haha!! You'll love it! 👍🍻
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers can't wait 🍻 is there any yeast restrictions for pressure fermentation?
@@freshcleanair only ones that I know of is some saison strains don't like pressure. Most others are ok.
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers Thank you!
Nicely done video as always Brian. The All rounder is a good option for sure.
I completely agree it is a great way to pressure ferment! 👍🍻
Nice review as always I love this thing and plan to add a second one soon.
If they can keep them in stock!! Lol
Short Circuited Brewers true. Another bonus is the all rounder fits in my fermentstion chamber while my snub nosed fermentasaurus does not.
Great video. Wondering if you had any issues with the floating dip tube getting clogged and then effecting the closed transfer. If so any tips on getting around that.
I have not had any issues with that I am assuming you have a lot of hops in the fermenter?
Ok! Thanks for that detail. I will include it! 👍🍻
Thank you, as always your continued efforts are much appreciated.
I appreciate the feedback! 👍🍻
A video on pressure fermentation would be awesome. I’d like to do a Belgian Pilsner this way.
Will do!! 👍🍻
I'd like to see more videos on pressurized fermentation. One question: Does this work for small batches? It seems like you completed a small batch brew there? All I do nowadays is small batch and would love to speed up the fermentation process which I assume this does? Okay, maybe I have more than just one question... Great video!
lol no problem. This was actually about a 6 gallon batch.
I'd love more content on pressure fermentation! What are your thoughts on doing a sour in one of these? Would it become a sour only vessel?
I would say no... I've done a sour in mine, and i just starsan them overnight and I haven't had a problem yet
I even rigged up a little magnet controlled system for dry-hopping without removing the lid during fermentation
Thanks for that response I've not done a sour in mine. 👍🍻
Thanks Josh
would love to see more pressurized content! The small one keeps selling out real quick so I guess it must be popular.
It is a great technique I'm working on doing a video on it. 👍🍻
Good tip about tilting it!! Thanks!
👍🍻
Not exactly, the keg pressure relief valve is rated for higher psi than the fermzilla. 👍🍻
Cheers!
Probably, like 7 gallons I suppose. But a little odd to do that size batch. Maybe a regular corny keg and a 2.5 gallon keg?
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers Yep, or split a batch for unique dryhopping/oaking and maybe a few bottle for later. Cheers!
Not kegging yet still bottling. Thoughts on bottling and priming.
You could put your priming sugar in each bottle and then use a beer gun to fill each bottle right from the fermenter. 🍻🍻
Would appreciate tutorial on pressure transfer with all rounder and anvil fermentation bucket. Stay strong 💪🏽
Great suggestion!
Great video thanks, would the ispindel be okay under pressure in this?
Yes it will
Cool, thx, just ordered the Fermzilla! BTW: from where can I order the Tshirt ˋI ferment under pressure ´ :)
underneath of the video there should be a banner down there that has my teespring store you can just go there and order one
Damn I had no idea you could make lagers at 70F. I always wanted to make a hoppy lager but never could. I just ordered a Anvil stainless bucket too. Maybe I should have me ordered this. Thanks for the video!
Haha no problem! I have 2 Anvil buckets. Love those as well. 👍🍻
Love my all rounders.
True story, they cost around 40 dollars in china with the pressure kit. I am getting as many as I can fit in my apartment
That's a great deal!! Jump on it!
Any yeast recommendations for Mexican lager under pressure? Recipe for not not corona!?
I used pilsner from wyeast. I'll see if I can add the recipe to the description. 👍🍻
Yes! We love pressure fermentation videos!
Haha! Ok will do!
Were can you buy Graduation Sticker at that will work with any bucket. Because i have a Fermonster and it doesn't have any gallon markings on it
That's kind of subjective. it would have to be made specific to the vessel in order to be accurate. I would say your best bet is to weigh water and mark it with a sharpie and then put some vinyl numbers on it based on your markings.
Hi Brian, where do I center the level sticker? It says the dot, is it the center of the dot or the edge of the dot?
Edge if I remember right. 👍🍻
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers thx so much. Also, should I keep a constant flow of co2, or just prime it?
Brian, can you let me know on this? For the co2 question. Thx again
Brian, that shirt is sweet, where did you get it?
My teespring site. It should be below this video and in the description.
Any ideas?
Hey Brian, how much lager yeast you use per gallon when using pressure fermentation?
I just used one dry yeast packet no starter on the beer shown in the video. 👍🍻
My 30L All Rounder has seams in the plastic, is that how it should be? I though it was one solid mold, I don’t see seams in your video.
They are not seams most likely but marks from the mold. They are not poured, they are blow-mold vessels.
They look like seams, it goes around the entire circumference horizontally and vertically. I can also feel it, almost like it’s slightly raised. I took some photos, can I send them to you to look at?
What about secondary fermentation, should you still transfer or is it not needed under pressure?
I just transfer to keg. No secondary. Why risk oxidation. 👍🍻
I want one but they are out of stock on the misc stuff!
Yeah they should be back in soon 👍🍻
so will the beer be ready to drink when yeast is done fermenting under pressure?
It is partially carbonated. It does still need additional carbonation, but not much. Has to do with the temperature of the fermentation, at 68f the beer won't absord as much CO2 as if it were at 35-40 degrees. 👍🍻
Woulid this work okay for smaller batches such as 3-4 gallons as well, or too much headspace? I fugure with CO2 it's not a concern?
Would be fine. Martin on the The Homebrew challenge has been using it with 2.5 gallon batches no problem.
Please do a pressure ferment video, and what is the point of it?
Will do!
I don't know if it has been already asked, sorry if I'm repeating. But, with Fermzilla, how can you transfer your beer (after carbonated in the fermenter) into bottles? Can the oxygen be reduced or eliminated in this process?
You can use a beer gun like you would with a keg.👍🍻
Thanks, I thought on that, but I was thinking in alternative to use the pressure to fill the bottle with the Brew Bottler, like this one: shop.grainfather.com/brew-bottler.html
What do you think of that?
great video my dude
Thanks Braj!! 👍🍻
How do you dry hop with the all runder...?
You can either remove the lid. Or hang hop sacks by magnet inside then drop them when needed. 👍🍻
Forget the all rounder, i want that T-shirt!
teespring.com/shop/new-i-ferment-under-pressure right there!!
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers haha good man. i might spring for the XXL. I hear pressurised fermentation turns the beer out pretty quick.
@@TheGavranatar yes it does! 👍🍻
Right on
+1 More pressurized fermentation info would be great if you don't mind 👍
Sure thing!! 👍🍻
Ideo idea! 10gallon batch split, One lager is under pressure and the other is a brulosophy "short and shotty method" to see the difference. Ps your arms aren't that big, you even lift bro.💪
Lol... no but I'm married.. ;-)
