The Ford Focus ST is a car that came out in the US in force and was hyped up by almost every car journalist as a resurgence of fun Ford vehicles. The ST is what started Ford to really get their act together and increase their popularity in the performance market other than the Mustang and Mustang GT. However with the Ford Focus RS out and now already gone...which one should you buy before they disappear? Morgan's Focus ST makes nearly 400HP to the wheels through it's FWD drivetrain and is more than enough to give you a thrill no hatchback should. Thanks for watching!

David you’re the one channel that still consistently shows the Focus ST love and I really appreciate man. I have a ‘17 with just full bolt ons, JST 93 custom tune, sticky tires, and brake pads/fluid and I’ve upset A LOT of “faster” cars on the highway and at the track. My close friends drive an R32 GTR, a Nismo 370Z, and a ‘15 WRX STI, none of them stock except the Z, and we all stay on each other’s bumpers on our weekly curvy mountain backroads Sunday sprints. They laughed when I came home with the car but now I’ll catch them defending it at Cars & Coffee and on Reddit all the time. Mine only has 8k miles and now that they’re discontinued I’m grateful every time I get in it that I get to spend another few years enjoying it.

Ford killing off it's cars hurts me so much... I've always been a fan of the focus since my first and current car is a 2009 focus. I always admired the 5 cylinder RS and thought it would be awesome if they had an AWD version. Then the new RS comes out while in college and I'm drooling over it. As college nears it's end, Ford kills off all cars minus Mustang. My dad works for Ford and they've provided my family a comfortable lifestyle but it's a damn shame what they've started doing...

hows it feel man? im stage 3 and debating either to go big turbo or just keep my small turbo with full bolts and just get a meth kit so i can be over 300 wheel at times. not permanently but when i need it i could spray meth for some idk maybe 330whp pulls? what do you think a full bolt 2014 ST1 could do with meth and catless dp compared to a big turbo no meth

    • @nicknicolosi1
      @nicknicolosi1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ueehurstonsecurity8887 well, I have the smaller of the big turbo options, the car makes 335whp on 91 pump gas, no meth or aux fuel yet.
It completely changes the dynamics of the car, the throttle response, the whole experience is different on a big turbo.
      Pros:
Car is more easy to predict the throttle response, at low rpm you get better gas mileage and a smoother and acceleration. Once you pass the 3K rpm is where the fun begins. Additionally, the induction noises are awesome, let me upload a small driving around the block video and I show you what I am talking about.
      Cons:
If drag racing from a dig, you need to learn how to predict the turbo lag, also on 40 rolls I have found the turbo lag to be a killer when you race cars on the same power level. I have done pulls with a friend on his Type R, full bolts on, pro tuned, he's got 385whp and I could keep up with him. We did a 40 to 100 pull and I got gapped by a few inches which I think it's impressive since I have 340whp vs 385, I could have maybe beating him if I learn how to break boost, because the lag was my killer on all 3 pulls we did.
I am planning on adding a 4 port's aux fuel from Stratified soon, I am JST tuned, and I should be easily get around 380~400 whp once I am done with it.
Overall I am loving my ST, and going BT made me fall in love with the car all over again, I would recommend it if you have 2500$ to throw at your car.
Also I heard that the G25-550 is even a better option, it spools way quicker than the GTX series, but it's more expensive, you will need a dump tube and external wastes gate right away versus only a blow off valve and charge pipes with the TIAL flange you are required to install any GTX series turbo.
Good luck bro, enjoy your ST 😁

Working at a ford dealer as a service advisor, you see a lot of focus ST failures. Along with throughout my community, the ST definitely has some compression and ring gap issues under high boost. As for the RS, I’ve seen some pretty impressive stuff since the 2018 came out on forums with the revised 2.3 (which basically means it was put together right the first time around). The platform is new and just as it took years for focus STs to get to this point I think we should wait and see what happens before we go claiming the “ST is stronger than the RS.” Especially with all the impressive numbers I’ve seen out of the eco boost mustang which shares a lot of similarities with the RS short block. Also, the speed 3 has LSD and not brake vectoring like this which is why it wanders more on stock turbo applications. When I had my 3071R speed, with the right set up, just as is required of this focus, there was almost no torque steer (obviously it’s not possible to get rid of it entirely). Good video over all, just a few things I wanted to point out from my personal experience!

RS heavy, 200 lbs heavier than a base ST. RS also overrated stock. It actually has 325 to 335 hp depending on fuel octane. I beat my buddy's stock RS to 60 and 100 with a stg 2 tune, dp and sticky front tires not to mention the reliability issues with the 2.3.. Used RS's are all over the place on dealer lots.

    • @MasterCarguy44-pk2dq

Heck a stock Type R is 4+ mph faster in the 1/4 than a stock RS snd can pretty closely match the RS 0 to 60 time and thats "without" a fancy high rpm launch control. Launch the RS at 4k rpm and the Type R will beat it off the line.

Civics, and so on snd even though there are cars faster , the ST is more versatile and fun. And for what it is, it can outrun a lot of bigger engine snd higher horsepower cars. Top speed of 155 mph surprises many people.

Light weight 17" wheels on sticky 245/40/17 with a 1" drop makes this car perform so much better. My 17" OZ wheels vs stock setup is a different car. Car is also tuned, I'm guessing the stock set of wheels is 0-60 in 6 seconds. Just changing out the wheels and tires, plus the ford tune, it's a 5 second 0-60 front wheel drive car...that alone is crazy!

Have any info to back up "you can mess with the ST a lot more"....? The only RS's that have had head gasket issues are the ones that had the *wrong* head gasket from the factory... Not a design flaw, but a build quality flaw (thanks Spain).
People are still exploring how much power you can get from the 2.3L engine in the RS, but the general consensus I've heard is that protecting the AWD system becomes an issue before the engine becomes a problem. Not that you can't use 500 HP with the RS's AWD system, but it may only be advisable from a roll. It *may* actually be fine even if you're launching from a stop, since the system already protects itself by allowing the front tires to slip to relieve the mechanical abuse on the RDU and drive shaft going to the back. The system may even be fine to launch with 500 HP, you'll just get more wheelspin at the front. (I haven't observed anyone testing this, so I'm curious to find out.)
Keep in mind the difference in base MSRP between the ST and RS in 2016 was only 10-11k. That bought you an additional 100 HP and a *very* dynamic AWD system. The AWD system gives a huge advantage accelerating out of a tight corner even on dry roads, but where it really shines is being able to *still* put your foot down coming out of a corner in wet, 35 degree weather.
You can make a FWD car as fast or faster than a stock RS in warm, dry weather on the streets or most tracks by adding power, grippier summer tires, and keeping the weight down (the RS's biggest failing), but it will fall apart when faced with low-grip surfaces.
There's only one reason to choose FWD over RWD or AWD: Economy.

The only reason the srt4 had more torque than hp is because the stock turbo is little and isn't able to hold more than 15psi at high rpm. So they spike boost at lower rpm to make a ton of torque. Like said, this is only on the stock turbo , a big turbo setup will make more HP than TQ in most cases
