The most aesthetic thing about cycling for me is seeing people from all walks of life and age groups riding on The Loop here in Tucson. Road, recumbent, elliptical, gravel, cruisers (with the occasional pet in a basket), etc. These are my people, and I love each and every one of them.

As a kid I fell in love with cycling watching the Tour de France on TV during the Hinault era and seeing the aerial shots of all the color snaking through the beautiful countryside. That's what hooked me first. And as for myself, I love a beautiful winding climb, well not the climbing part, but usually a climb will bring good scenery and I'm usually going slow enough to enjoy it. 😂 White bar tape.

About why old components/groupsets look better: they didn't have giant branding pasted all over them in your face with wack graphic design details that are entirely disconnected from the rest of the bike's aesthetic. The materials and industrial process spoke much more clearly and softly in the object than the ones currently made.

Riding a streamliner looking at a monitor isn't scary. The scary part is when a gust of wind hits. You don't see or hear the wind. Your vehicle suddenly moves sideways by a meter or two and the nose dips into the wind. The whole time, all you hear is increasingly loud road noise as your speed increases, reverberating inside a big drum.

I believe the answer is yes to new Super Record, but I'm not sure if they're running the 10-tooth cassettes.

Campy rotors and cranksets are bellissimo. Sram components aren't attractive. That said, I've been riding Dura Ace for 35 years..
