- Continuing with my journey exploring retro HPI nitro models. Next up - HPI Nitro MT2.
Launched in 2003 just as I was about to start uni, I didn't have the finances available to purchase an MT2. Fast forward 20 years and I can finally tick one off my list!

I have the same one I bought it probably 20 something years ago brand new. I'm pretty sure I put a 2 speed transmission in it and bought the best engine hpi had to offer in it at the time. Unfortunately it sits in a plastic bin in my basement so I don't break it lol. So cool to see someone else that actually has one still in good condition!
Recently picked one up also, However, the motor is cooked in it, and it seems here, Nitro is all but a thing of the past, it's hard to get the fuel, much less a sleeve and piston for it! I'm really concerned about making parts and converting it over to electric, which I know makes no sense as there are much better platforms nowadays for electric trucks.
I've just bought one of these off ebay because I never got one when I was a kid.... I know nothing about it 😂

I've got one these but the mt2 18ss version they share most parts with the rs4 if you ever need parts for the.
I got one of these , bought from brand new ran once has a friend ran over it with his nitro monster truck causing it full throttle into a kerb, I did a major expensive rebuild and a different engine from the hpi rush , but unfortunately it never ran so I borrowed the radio crystal and a steering servo for my hyboa which I don't have now, so my Mt2 is sat in its original box collecting dust , unfortunately
Having fun. That is pretty clean and there fast enough for a single speed but i believe the rs4 two speed fits straight on these and the G3.0 engine bolts straight to the chassis for some extra mph
The plan is to ultimately drop a G3.0 in (I believe the later MT2’s shipped with them fitted?!). But now you mention the RS4 2 speed…..that’s an epic idea! Thanks!
Useful video, thanks. I've been trying to get mine to run reliably, but I'm not having much luck. It just about starts (via rotostart) but won't run for more than a few seconds. Like yours mine is covered in fuel so I suspect I've got a leak somewhere.
Thanks for the comment! If there’s a way for fuel to leak out then there’s also a way for air to get in which ruins the tune. Once you fix the leak it’ll run much better. Also check your idle gap - you want about 1-1.5mm. Any less and it’ll struggle to keep running👍🏻

Mines got the roto start... which do you think is better
They both have their pro’s and cons - the roto start you have to remember to charge the battery and bring it with you. But the pull starts can break leaving you stranded if you don’t have a spare. I also get blisters on my fingers!😂
