    Freaking love these throw backs to the Big Game! I've probably seen every episode of The Big Game like 3-4 times already, not counting going back to the really good ones and watching them 5-6 times. This was in my opinion the height of poker entertainment back in my era.
    Really glad PokerStars got these episodes sorted by seasons for easy watching, years and years later.

    This series is some of the best if not just THE best content on your channel. Your crazy way of playing back then compared with the analysis showing how much your game has improved over the years makes it both really entertaining and educational. Hope you keep making these

    • @LexVeldhuisTV
      @LexVeldhuisTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Jan. It's also a bit unfair to evaluate the game back then with knowledge from now. The knowledge from now simply wasn't available then. A lot of the boards I'm betting that I shouldn't have was absolutely normal back then.

    • @janpiet9921
      @janpiet9921 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LexVeldhuisTV That makes a lot of sense, computers have come a long way in games like these for better or worse. "Crazy style" wasn't meant in a negative way at all, just saying that you not being afraid to just put it all on the line in every hand makes this series a lot better than if you were only playing aces.

    I think the fact that Daniel just passed you $100k in chips - despite the fact that it was your money and was a pre-arranged thing - is just kinda surreal. A lot of the high-stakes stuff is very interesting because the visuals of giant stacks of cash or chips worth more than a lot of people's houses can make it feel like a whole different world. The fact that Daniel casually passed you $100k in a quick across-the-table handoff only adds to the perception that poker pros have a different concept of money compared to ordinary mortals.

    Hey Lex. Thanks for this new content it's brilliant. Maybe with the jack 3 2-barrel, once we get to the river go full animal and rip all in. Vanessa's range seems capped enough, most her nutted stuff is probably raising earlier. She winds up with a few better jacks we can bluff off and she also has a lot of weaker showdown value and missed draws that could blow us off our equity (can easy see 67s or a8 turning into bluff) and we can't call. We also are blocking Jx 2p combos which are some of the best calling hands she ends up with here.
    Pretty sick spot to end up in 😂

Sure she won all the hands, but saving the first hand, in which she did what most people would do (just call and see what develops with AA, which seems correct in this case imo) she played like a complete amateur. Hand 2 nothing at all she did made sense, but she got lucky Lex dug himself into a weird spot. Hand 3 was total nonsense from both, but she just had 88 vs 66, change Lex 66 for 99 story is totally different. Winning and playing good doesn't always come together, in fact sometimes you win thanks to playing bad and viceversa. In other videos, I've seen her play great poker, and also make some mistakes, like a normal person would.

    3:20 Horrible flat on the river by Vanessa. With the 3 pairing your AA just counterfeited K4 and KQ the two most probable hands your opponent would have by betting the flop and turn strong. 34 and 44 are not likely because of the 3 pairing on the river and it being also a heads up pot the entire hand. In this situation being last to act I would be raising about pot or 3x on the river every time.

She could still re raise you. but i don't think. she would bluff that match with just 95 high card. But K is scary card for 3J. Maybe if you would check turn on J and start bet first when K comes on the river. you would won this one

    Great video. First hand wasnt so bad, just bad luck, and Vanessa played good. The other 2 you both played like lunatics, but it worked fine for her, not for you hehe.

    I dont really understand, why you think that vanessa's pot-bet preflop is bad. Ok, she doesnt have any blockers but isnt that a good squeeze hand anyway? I mean she would only profit 5 ways if she hits a set, and if not, her hand is likely no good. So why not try to get all players to fold or at least play heads up and then rep a stromg hand. Could you explain? Nice format btw

      There's nearly 5k in dead money. Nothing wrong with occassionally squeezing here with this hand. She is last to act and doesn't have to worry about action behind her like Lex. Alot of Ax should be folding to her raise. Players were playing wide, I don't think not having blocking properties out weighs putting weak Ax in a bad spot. AJ, A10, etc. are likely to be dominated. If players were playing tighter ranges then blocking would be more relevant. Besides squeezing with A rag wasn't considered a good strategy back then and probably a miniscule part of her squeezing range. The only negative I see is Daniel is next to act and likes to peel which will likely bring in other players if he calls. If Lex doesn't think she has any middle pair squeezes, then his back raise is even worse. He might think 88 would fold to his back raise. Surely a big Ax or any big pair is never folding. For the same reason he just called the first raise, he should just call the second raise getting nearly 4to1 and set mine.

      I think it's the correct play! Still do. Actually think the checkfold on the river is one of my best decisions that hand

    Veldhuis showing himself getting destroyed shows an amazing mindset as a teacher, a player and generally as a human being.
    The injunction to always show oneself as a « winner » costs a lot to a lot of people. We learn from mistakes and as a teacher or a coach it’s a much, much better material to show to an improving player. It’s also slightly painful which causes it to sink much easier than the « look how awesome i play » content.
    Thank you Lex, hats off, and best of luck in your poker endeavours!!!!

    for me, 90% of these players who play at those cash games tv shows wouldnt make a dime at online poker today, im sure they wouldnt even beat nl100.
