Sorry to hear about the moving troubles. Moving sucks! Looking forward to you both returning soon! Hope you don't have to move too much furniture (most places here go unfurnished). I'm sure moving is the same pain in the a$$ in the UK as in the US. AD doesn't stand for "After Death". It stands for the Latin phrase "Anno Domini" (translating to "In the Year of Our Lord"). So basically, for example, saying "212 AD" (or more properly "AD 212") is the same as saying "In the 212th year of the Lord", which is how medieval chroniclers wrote history. It refers to all the years after Jesus' birth.
As someone else said, this has been changed by many to BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era) for many reasons, partly because Jesus was probably, awkwardly, born in about 4 BC, and partly to remove the Christian bias.

  • @Moshinoki

AD isn't After Death, it's Anno Domini. Christ supposedly lived from 1 to 34 AD

    • @michaeltnk1135

Although most scholars today agree that Christ’s birthdate was miscalculated and was more likely 4 BC

    • @davidcooley275
      @davidcooley275 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@michaeltnk1135 It was miscalculated because there is no proof ANYWHERE that he existed. I was proposed this line of reasoning when i was in college by my history professor and did not think much about it then. However, i have spent the last 30 years trying to uncover one historical verified piece of evidence and it does not exist. We are not talking about faith folks, the Holy Bible is full of it. First thing you learn is the the Gospels were all written 50-90 years after Jesus "died." Imagine how many times those stories changed in 75 years. Then there are no other first hand accounts, birth certificates, monuments, even notes written in other famous people diaries, just nothing. It was like Jesus was just made up by the growing christian church. If we study the Bible over time it is changed MANY times...class dismissed.

@@davidcooley275 Archaeologists have been able to corroborate elements of the New Testament story of Jesus. While some disputed the existence of ancient Nazareth, his biblical childhood home town, archaeologists have unearthed a rock-hewn courtyard house along with tombs and a cistern. They have also found physical evidence of Roman crucifixions such as that of Jesus described in the New Testament, and also questions of authenticity continue to surround direct relics associated with Jesus, such as the crown of thorns he reputedly wore during his crucifixion (one possible example is housed inside the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris), and the Shroud of Turin, a linen burial cloth purportedly emblazoned with the image of his face.
I’m not here to argue on how its unquestionable that Jesus existed, I’m not even Christian, but there is a bit of a difference between not having enough evidence to be conclusive, and the conclusion of saying that there is zero evidence, an ironically extreme bias that is unsurprisingly favored among Atheists.
And plus think about it this way, the majority of people at the time also didn’t leave much archeological trace, least of all what would have been considered an annoying peasant revolt by the Romans at the time, also you do know that there are far more people than Jesus who share a similar dilemma right? Heck, by the video these folks are reacting to, an entire dynasty is under speculation, freaking Troy was rediscovered no more than a century and a half ago, so how much do you think a dime a dozen peasants would fare in comparison when it comes to archeology? Context of a situation also matters, and no field of study is perfect, but all in all, you lost all credibility when you mentioned a birth certificate in a non-comedic fashion, Adios.

Hey guys, I was thinking that if you were to ever react to the Three Kingdoms again in the future, check out Cool History Bros' Summary of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms (they're split up into parts, and to this day is still being made. But it's quite digestible.)
He summarizes from the Classical novel, so some things are inconsistent with recorded history. For example, in the novel, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Liu Bei drove back Lu Bu at Hu Lao Gate. Whereas in recorded history (Which Oversimplified follows), Sun Jian drove back Lu Bu.

A.D. or Anno Domini means 'In the year of the Lord.' It is medieval Latin. Historically, time was measured using the time period of the reign of kings or emperors. So, a Christian monk/abbot named Dennis the Little calculated the birth of Christ and measured time from here, as Christian Faith teaches that Christ is the 'King of kings.' Nowadays, B.C.E. can be used to measure time also. B.C.E. means 'before the common era' and C.E. means 'the common era.' These two correspond with B.C. and A.D. respectively.

Dionysius Exiguus, a 6th-century monk and the inventor of the AD dating, made some mathematical miscalculations when establishing the birth date of Jesus Christ. When the error was found, the calendar was already widespread. So, instead of rearranging the calendar itself, we still write that Jesus was "born" in ca. 4 BC.

Christ’s birth was changed to fit Roman holidays. The actual historical radical rabbi who inspired the character of Jesus is thought to have been born around spring of 4 BC.

If you like the modern Total War system, then 3 Kingdoms is good.
As for me, I think things took a turn for the worse at Rome 2.

PS AD means Anno Dominei- Year of Our Lord. It starts in the year 1 with Jesus birth. Otherwise there'd be a blank 33 year gap in the calendar.

NO NO NO!!! AD does not stand for after Jesus' death! AD means "In the year of the lord" (Anno Domini). From where do you get this nonsense. The Gregorian calendar was based on the calculated year of his birth. It goes from 1 BC to 1 AD, skipping year zero (a stupid oversight).
