It works and it's fine but I learned that putting the Graham cracker in the microwave with the marshmallow for 10 seconds then slapping the chocolate and other cracker on top works just fine.
    Plus, we love roasting the marshmallows over the fire pit on a nice fall night. It's nothing like it.
    So it's fine, it works. But idk why it's useful. It's easier to make s'mores a different way. Plus you dont get that smoky flavor from an open flame over a fire pit.

    I don't know your age but you were probably a lot smaller 40+ years ago, so your perspective has changed. When I was in my mid-30s I had the chance to walk through the house that I grew up in, from the age of about 5 to 14. I was astonished at how much smaller it was than I remembered.

    And from a Brit that used to be around that long ago, we used to have a Marathon bar that's what now gets called a Snickers, and your Milky Way is what we call a Mars Bar, and I have no idea what you call our Milky Way (small bars with lighter fluffier caramel.

      @jmj8596 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      US version of Milky Way is what a Mars bar is in the UK ...the nearest thing to a UK Milky Way could be US Three Musketeers... the UK Milky Way has like a soft vanilla filling and doesn't have any caramel at all

    Try marzipan when in Europe. It's sweetened almond paste. Best coated with dark chocolate. In my experience, either you love it or you loathe it.
    I love it, so when we lived in Europe, everyone in the family gave me theirs!

    My mom has a really cool Coleman brand s'mores maker. You put the ingredients together in it then latch it closed and hold over a fire. I don't like how messy s'mores are so I break up the graham crackers, layer it like you're supposed to and eat it with a fork. It works great.

  • @ItsJustLisa
    @ItsJustLisa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did they suggest a Salty Dog s’more? I learned that one at Girl Scout camp in the 70s. It’s saltines, a Brach’s caramel and a marshmallow. It’s so good!
    As for the microwave to make s’mores, that’s a bit sacrilegious. S’mores need to have marshmallows that get perfectly toasted and caramelized on the outside and melty on the inside. I guess if I was desperately hankering for a s’mores, it might tide me over, but I think I’d rather try to use the smallest burner on my gas stove.

  • @111111222223
    @111111222223 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you even need the s'mores maker? The arms don't seem to exert any pressure on them, so I'm wondering if just putting them in the microwave and pressing on them afterwards will do exactly the same.

  • @witoldyna
    @witoldyna 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got my husband this s’mores maker a few years ago, I believe we sold it on a garage sale last year. It worked perfectly but we just did not use it more than once every 2 years. As for chocolate bar - Europe has way better chocolate than the US. I just basically stopped eating it when I moved here (except a few expensive chocolate bars but this is a rare treat)

    If you can let your guard down, the wrapped Keebler cheese cracker peanut butter sandwiches can be good sometimes. But that's a different realm of snacking that doesn't involve a microwave.

    In the UK in the 1970, a marathon was a different bar to the USA our Marathons are now called Snickers. Cury-wurlies were always called that and in the UK we have a thing called shrinkflation whereby the price goes up and the size of the items get smaller. Also the caramel would have been a lot softer if it was consumed at room temperature.

    I remember Sorted Food doing that smores maker a couple of years ago. For what you get and what it does, it's horrendously expensive. You could do the same thing with a glass of water and two small plates. At the end of it, you could always blowtorch the marshmallows to get the char on them, too.

    I like the idea of the graham cracker getting steamed a bit. I have trouble chewing really crispy things. My 9 yr old nephew would get into making these! Yes! The marathon bar was really chewy. Thats one of the reasons i loved it so much! Youre right it was a lot thicker. My absolute favorite was the Powerhouse bar! Ive never found it made under another name though 🙁

    Always fun to watch your review videos. Reasonably objective, and you give it an honest shot as usual. I wonder what the water is for? Probably to offset some of the microwave's power and provide a more even warming effect. I do recall some tips about cooking certain things with a cup of water.
    Huh, PB and cheese. I haven't had that in years. Yeah, it's a thing. It's an odd sounding combination that just works (not as well as say, PB and Chocolate, but it's still pretty solid). It's partly psychological, as most subjective things are. If you go in expecting it to taste off or bad, it's not surprising that you won't enjoy it much. That said, naturally it's not for everyone. If you like cheese and you like PB, it should work.
    And of course the bar is chewy, the caramel hardened in the fridge. If it was room temperature it would be much softer.

    I used to make microwaved s'mores as a kid with Ritz crackers. There's also cheddar peanut butter crackers so that isn't weird. At least its smooth plastic so the cheese came off easily.

    The curly wurly is more toffee, its meant to be soft, also one of the few sweets that hasn't lost tooooo much weight over the years!
    A Snickers here is what a marathon used to be called (it changed in the 80's I think) but they are TOTALLY different, it has peanuts in it.

    so what does the "maker" do other than having the "arms" to hold down the cracker while the mashmallow melts? and the water reservoir to hold some water (which you can do with a small cup).

  • @spacebug30
    @spacebug30 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can easily do this without the gadget though, I've been making s'mores in the microwave for years :) Just a plate with cracker, chocolate and marshmallow. When you put it in the microwave, the marshmallow will start to inflate (with is hilarious lol) and after a couple of seconds (10-15?) deflate again. That's when I take it out, put on the other cracker and you got a perfect s'more!
