you might now know this but you can feed/drain the blood out of enemies that are attacking you. its pretty much a dice roll but you can keep trying and eventually it will work.

i just like how this game doesn't hold your hand like ur a little kid, and you sorta have to explore locations and different routes on your own or based on dialogue. Really immersive

It definitely lends to a lot of "Aha!" moments that so few games nowadays have. I remember first figuring out how to deal with the Werewolf as a kid and I was like "MOM LOOK"
My mom, bless her heart, was not smart when it came to buying me games cause this was not the game for a little kid.

Really just comes down to the hub worlds being the perfect sizes. Compact, but big enough to allow exploration.
Helps that the hubs are pretty dense

The trailer for the 'sequel' convinced me that they should just remaster this one and include 'best of' mod content / fixes. It's really one of the most innovative and cool games of the mid 2000s.
Your first time in the Ocean House Hotel is always something special - but I think the thing that makes Bloodlines stand out as such an iconic cult-classic is how it merges a bunch of different genres (horror, action, drama, comedy) without any one of them really feeling out of place or overshadowing the rest of the game.
Also, one great thing about the game is how many alternative solutions there are to each quest - for example, if you play your cards right, you can persuade Jeanette and Therese to coexist and gain bonus experience.
My favorite when it come to quests is the "Gargoyle Removal Service" one in Hollywood, Because it traces back to the actual Tabletop-RPG, This game is truly amazing
Everybody talks about the Hotel mission, but there were many more that were just as memorable. The snuff film mystery that ends up in the Tzimisce's domain, the cultists' lair, the sewer mission with the plague bearer, the twin sisters and their crazy antics. I don't care if the sequel nails it from a graphical/technical perspective--I want most of their efforts put towards creativity in the scenarios.

its a shame, for the upcoming sequel (possibly) they hired the original team of this game, then fired them, mainly the creative writer. its passed through at least 3 different devs now so idk whether to look forward to it now or not. in my opinion the reason this game is worth playing is the writing/dialogue. i highly recommend malkavian next time you play this, they are the star of the show for sure : D and the clan quest mod! its built on an older unofficial patch version and many fans consider it canon. it adds a 5th area to the game which was planned but never implemented due to time constraints. wow what a ramble

Bloodlines 2 only had Brian mitsoda from the original Troika team , rest of the folks are now in obsidian
I threw myself on the others Vampire games to wait the sequel, most of them have a limited lifetime but i think i can enjoy Bloodhunt for a good time until Bloodlines 2 comes

I love watching people who have no idea what is coming go through the Ocean House mission. Also, frack the living hell out of that elevator.
You spoke of Werewolves a few times... Those weren't werewolves, they were vampires (weird vampires, but still vampires). Werewolves in the World of Darkness are truly terrifying murder machines fuelled by (and full of) rage, and vampires tend to avoid them as much as they could so they keep their dead entrails inside their dead bodies. If you keep playing this game, you might get a glimpse of an actual werewolf.
But this game is indeed pretty great, a lot of replayability, and the different clans do allow you to approach the plot a bit differently.
You just played one of the best games, glad for you brother.

Bro i finished this game 2 years ago I absolutely love it and can't wait for the new one. It gives such a nostalgic 2000s vibe with good humor the city just feels like such a vibe and the music omg Darling Violetta - A smaller God 10/10 is on my playlist I WOULD LOVE TO WATCH YOU PLAY MORE ON TWITCH 😭
The soundtrack is amazing, you can find downloads of it including all the ingame music and the deb of the night radio show.
A game that once you’ve played it you’ll never stop coming back to because there’s literally nothing else that compares. Hopefully the sequel finally happens and lives up to this game.
I can't imagine the sequel if it ever comes out will remotely compare. It might be alright, but it's not going to live up to this flawed gem of a game.
I enjoy the modern VtM universe and I want a sequel but this game can't hit the same for me without the 2000's goth/punk setting. It's crazy how much it ticks all the nostalgia switches inside my brain.

Grew up in the late 90's/early 2000's, so I'm thinking the nostalgia/atmosphere is going to be great.

"For a 2004 game?" Age doesn't have anything to do with quality. Games like Deus Ex & Doom are some of the greatest games of all time, and they're both older than this. This game is just straight-up great, regardless of age.

Now that you've played some time as a non Malkavian, you have to try to restart as a Malkavian. The dialogs are massively altered to fit that bloodline specificity and it bring some amazing replayability.

With a couple of notable exceptions (those goddamn sewers and the ending), huge sections of this game can be competed without resorting to combat and often without stealth. You can flirt, persuade, intimidate and bend peoples minds through domination or dementation to get what you want. Great game.
Jeanette is a main inspiration for modern Harley Quinn’s look in the Arkham games and The New 52.
I think this game still has some of the best voice acting ever. Even more so when you mix it in with the way the NPCs are animated. The stuff is so well done. This is a game where you really want to get lost in.

I reckon the plus patch was installed because we saw histories at character creation and the blood heal discipline.
Oh man! Started playing this after i watched my dad play it yeaars ago. Got me into intense vampire depictions as well as industrial metal 😁
Thanks to the game they exposed me to a lot of bands I never would have heard of other wise.
Legit one of the best vampire focused games i've played, really can't find anything like it in terms of gameplay and lore most importantly.
To this day, I'm amazed people manage to get frenzied easily, meanwhile I have to force it of sorts and still can't get it. Like once or twice.
Since you’re a Toreador they have the power of persuasion which is how you were able to get past the junkies. I tend to play as Ventrue, and Malkavians they were always the most fun, but Nosferatu was always an extra challenge, having to use the sewer systems to walk around. The Haunted hotel portion was always my favorite, it was genuinely unsettling when I played as a teen, had a ‘Shining’ feel with the Overlook type Hotel, especially with the way the Jack Torrance like spirit tried to kill you the whole way through. I also loved the soundtrack to the game, using real bands, especially since I listened to 90% of them even before the game.
You can feed in combat, clear the enemies, and feed on the last guy standing. Will make you frenzy a lot less. :D

I played and beat this game over 10yrs ago and that dancing randomly pops into my mind every so often.
How many games allow this amount of different ways to fix a problem, sneak through, talk your way in/out, use your powers to do so, and so many ways to end missions.
Problems need solving, how is up to you. Just remember it is up on your shoulder to deal with the consequences.
And with seven clans, different playstyles and different endings, what stops you?
i played it over a dozen times over the years, with all the mods available you get lots off great content for it, it really is a cult classic!
I remember playing the hotel mission when I was a kid and it terrified me. Playing the game years later as an adult it still is a scary experience. You would think due to the game being older the graphics would break the immersion but they nailed it. I love this game! That mission still is a scary experience XD

I think the "homosexual" background just changes the gender of the vampire that turns you to make it same sex.
I started a new game and chose the homosexual background and my female character was still sired by a man, so doesn't look like it changes the intro.
I think that background was added in the unofficial patch.

Wow never heard of this but for 2004 it seems like much more recent…even if he camera angles used are nice and the writing seems to have a lot of genuine comedy to it…thanks for showing this….I fucking love gaming, it saved my life!!
Honestly, If you like RPGs and you’re playing on PC you definitely need to give this game a try. One thing I would say is install at least the basic version of the unofficial patch as the base game is incredibly buggy but that patch irons pretty much all of the issues out.

I'm not sure if you've played Thief Deadly Shadows but I'd love for you to take a run at it. Especially the Shalebridge Cradle level.

Freaking excellent game, you should play as a Malkavian, it's the best experience.
Oh yeah definitely got to do one playthrough as Malkavian, first playthrough generally best not to go Malkavian. The Malkavian dialogue is crazy and i like how the dialogue changes slightly when people address you depending which clan you picked.
My recommendation is to play the entire game as any clan other than Malkavian or Nosferatu - then on your second playthrough, pick Malkavian for that special lunatic experience, and then go Nosferatu for the added challenge of staying out of sight.
This is one of my fav games ever

Helpful tip: you can totally feed while fighting. Anyone who you're fighting with or is a criminal is fair game, just hit F when you're close enough and you'll feed on them, though others around can attack and interrupt but you can get a couple blood points to keep you going first at least
This game was a classic really for two reasons: (1) rich lore from the tabletop game, (2) very memorable and well-executed scenarios. There are so many missions in this game that will stay with you forever. So much so, that we can readily forgive its many, many technical and gameplay issues. I'd definitely play it modded even the first time through.
If you fill out the character sheet yourself, spend you points, then go back one, then pick the same clan again, and you get to spend your skill points again.. you can repeat until you max out your sheet. You have to pick the same clan each time or your sheet resets.
That's kind of an unnecessary exploit, since the game is never so difficult that you can't beat it by playing normally - and if you pay attention to how you complete quests, you can get a bunch of bonus XP which allows you to become incredibly powerful by the end - the only reason to max out all your stats from the start would be if you wanted to play in God-Mode... which kinda ruins the challenge, but some people may find it fun. I wouldn't recommend it, until you've completed the game normally at least once, however, just so you can experience the game as intended first, before trying to game the system.

@@julybeeb4614 yeah it was announced years ago at this point, but it got delayed and then the original devs got dropped from the project and now it is being developed by an unknown team as of right now
they fired the lead writer and director (who directed the first game). I have zero hopes for it
I'm both hopeful and worried about the upcoming Bloodlines 2 - it could be something truly amazing, but it could also be a complete wash... there's no way to know until it comes out.
The long development time and development confusion could indicate that they are floundering and don't know what they're doing - or it could mean that they are dedicated to the final project, and are willing to spend the time and effort to get it right, instead of rushing it or sticking to flawed ideas.

I have never played this game before but will check it out now. The different bloodlines reminds me of a short lived Vampire series that ran on Fox back in the 90's, "Kindred: The Embraced".
That show was based on this franchise

Protip, after you beat the storyline play a malkaivan right after, because the madness they have isn't always madness, they are prophetic and it's well written for them.
Ngl, Tremere will always be my favourite to play in this game. Solely for the fact that they have a blood magic move that literally causes people to explode. Lmao.
That said, Malkavians are....probably the most interesting. On a second playthrogih at least. Due to not being able to understand half of the damned story if you play as them first, becuase of the insane babble that is all of your dialogue. 😅
The "Histories" section of character creation is actually from the Unofficial Patch mod, specifically the "Plus" version

ok so i never really comment but this game looks sooooo cool!! i usually dont play older games cause they feel a little “stiff” or something but this one (along with bayonetta) feels just right. it just aged so well, the art style is amazing and also the whole game just looks weirdly cool, hopefully will play it soon
It actually didn't age too well, the animation is clumsy, combat mechanics are very old, and I'm just sayin' not to have your expectations too high. It's an old game - but if you are a vampire and/or RPG fan, you won't give a sht about that! The story will never let you go again, the colours are vibrant, the characters OMG and the atmosphere is... well let's say no game came even close to this one, ever.

It's a great game with quite a bit of replay value even in modded. Top of my wish list.

Correct choice, Toreador is the best option of the default choices in this game. With mods you can be a Ravnos, the absolute best clan in the setting(until they destroyed their whole concept in the newer edition of the tabletop).
