I have to give lore props to the game devs that the Thestrals were invisible until we saw someone die.
I liked that too. It reminds me a bit of the opening sequence of Crimes of Grindlewald, it had that level of intensity to it.

The developers made the best fan game ever. The level of polish, cute details and "Easter eggs" is off the charts.

Hats off to Jayvee for claiming to have loved Harry Potter then actually showing lore knowledge. So many people playing this game spend ages talking about how much they watched and read Harry Potter then be like "Wow how did that key teleport us".

the only thing I dislike so far is that alohamora doesn't just unlock the damn locks without the mini game but I bet someone made a mod for that thing.

So far I don’t dig the camera. It’s always in a weird angle where you can’t always see everything. It needs to be higher or at least let us place it a little further back. The world is so massive and grand. Yet we can only see a quarter of it cause of the camera.

Never watched any harry potter… is it so important to watch the films or it’s not related ? I saw that the invisible horse at the beginning was not a bug but lore related so I’m scared to miss on a lot of details
Yeah watch the films, you’ll see tons of stuff & familiar places in game that you seen from the movies.
I mean, you don't need to technically, but yeah, you're going to miss a lot of details and references.

12 hrs in and so far it’s living up to all the hype. once you sink in the story, get into the open world and start unlocking things it gets really good it’s fun to make combos using all the powers during fights.
to bad te combat isbarely even mobile quality though, combat basically reminds you the game is pretty shallow and why its been quickly forgotten.
I love the little detail right at the beginning where you can't see the thestrals but right after you see the man being devoured by the dragon they are visible to the player. Some people might think this a glitch but it's a lovely nod to the lore

Also a great way to tell you that that poor guy did in fact die. I was unsure myself if he managed to wisp himself away but then the thestrals came into sight and it was immediately obvious.

The only thing that pisses me off about this game is that they made your character sound like three AI generated voices recorded and played on top of each other through a closed bathroom door.
They really threw everything they have in this game in a positive way.

Yeah I've sorta outgrown the franchise but it seems the devs are really talented, and made a really well designed game that stands on its own quality, official adaptation or not.

Characters respond to you using them like they’ll say “you shouldn’t b using those spells” and if you kill any mainline villains with it, their henchmen will remember. Like your the student who used *blank unforgivable curse* on *blank antagonist.* But other than that, no consequence just fun.

And considering this game takes place 30 years before the Fantastic Beasts Movies Time frame and 100 Years before the Harry Potter Books/Movies Time frame, you can technically play this game first if you like doing things in chronological order.

I'm interested to see how this opens up, and honestly that ancient magic has me a bit curious about the player character backstory and where this is going within that fictional universe. I can't really afford AAA games so I'm hoping maybe a friend picks up a gog copy or something, like the old days of lending CDs in middle and high school, cuz it's not like our parents bought all of us all the games. Or I'll just forget about it and happen to notice it on a steam sale in three years or more (this is usually how it goes with AAA $60-70 games, I remember when prices were half that, and you got a box, some cool art, physical media, and a manual to drool over on the way to school til you got home that night and could play all weekend). Now I just sorta try to pretend new games don't exist until they drop below $30. Guess it's a good thing I mostly like indie titles these days. But for example I picked up Fallout 4 seven years after release cuz I just happened to see it for five bux on steam, and was amazed it had really been that long).

I actually played this game last year on my PS5 and it was a great way to experience the world of Harry Potter. I played it four times to try out the four houses. First Walkthrough was Ravenclaw, Second Walkthrough was Gryffindor, Third Walkthrough was Hufflepuff and the Fourth and Final Walkthrough was Slytherin.
it's just astonishing how many people want to play an eeeevil wizard in this game. All edge and no point like a pizza cutter...
The school was cool but the open world was so boring no cool mini side quest just fetch this do this blah blah
"Raytracing just destroys games still" like why tf do devs have an RT option but stubbornly rarely include DLSS or FSR support, so basically nobody can enable RT in many games that support it, except like VFX professionals with 3x3090s. I use raytracing at "detail" and DLSS at "quality" in cyberpunk on a laptop with a 6gb 3060 chip and it's absolutely fine. Loud, but fine.
Well I checked and apparently the game supports AI upscaling. Good deal. Would be sad if it's still barely playable with raytracing with that enabled. CP2077 maxes at like 20fps with raytracing and no DLSS for me, I could see this game being more demanding but IME DLSS should make a huge difference, especially at 1080p which is as high as I can go (my monitor is 165Hz but the refresh rate kills FPS too so I locked it at 55Hz and it's nice and smooth now). The game still looks very good.
I digress but I hope a supersampling patch comes out for Stray, another game that looks phenomenal without raytracing, but launching it with dx12 forced just kills the fps apparently (I haven't tried, it already looks incredible, but there's just something about raytraced GI, even when it's rescaled, that just tickles something in the brain).
Anyway slim chance this will be seen, but was raytracing still unplayable with FSR or DLSS?

game deserves a sequel, since a lot were underutilized like spells, difficulty, transportation that were overshadowed by more reliable and practical skills, and the writing and quest were such a tease like devs were hinting for dynamic writing. which are tolerable since it's a game made for younger audience.
I was very hyped to play this before I saw this video... even though the game's been out for weeks (I'm on an Xbox one). That intro though, with the knight combat and such glorious spells - I'm jumping out of my seat. I still have another month to go, though :(.
I thought this game would look like ass because screenshots from Reddit are all I saw. Playing the game on Ultra with Ultra ray tracing though really surprised me. Thank God for DLSS and Frame Generation
