- The fashion week reviews are back, as the Spring-Summer 2024 season has concluded throughout the 4 major fashion capitals of New York, London, Milan, and Paris! And we'll start our reviews with New York, America's fashion capital and the home of commerciality! There was a lot of anticipation with New York Fashion Week as Helmut Lang was designed by Peter Do and the debut collection was the hot ticket item, while Ralph Lauren's return to NYFW also was giving the fashion calendar a bit more heritage bite! But between PETA protestors at Coach, the continuation of Christian Siriano, and an otherwise lack luster showing for the city, New York felt like a real disappointment.

Vietnamese here. Backwards shirt at 8:23 basically says "I really miss you, Mum. I'm sorry I made you sad".
I showed my mother this shirt (without any context) and jokingly said I'll wear it to the next family get together and she said "No, you will not". 😂

🤣🤣🤣 I live in San Jose, California. There are probably 100,000 people I could show that shirt to, and hear a resounding roar of laughter. Just like when people get Asian worded tattoos without checking with someone who actually speaks and writes the language first!
All of my neighbors are Vietnamese. Then, I found out one was Cambodian. They are the minority! The census doesn't measure Chinese vs Vietnamese, but I would be willing to bet it would be a very close race between the ethnicities.

Your speed run review of the Christian Siriano collection destroyed me in the best way possible.
I usually disagree when Luke goes ‘I know it looks ugly but actually it references…’ when it’s still ugly, so this review with Helmut Lang was really refreshing

When I saw this title i wondered ‘whats the difference between all the cities’ fashion weeks’ i love your educational and historical stuff and i think itd be cool to go over some of those like basic but kinda unstated aspects of how the fashion industry functions idk, or like itd be cool to go over the history and signature style/thesis of each big fashion house… idk just random ideas
Yeah he's fallen way off. Hating on NYFW in this economy is tired. Elizabeth Hawes exposed people's love of Paris fashion week in her first chapter of Fashion is Spinach, sad to see "fashion experts" still espouse the tired bullshit.

Excited to see what Peter Do can do at Helmut Lang. He's an amazing designer and he's got a great brand to work with and showcase his design. His first collection was underwhelming, but I have faith that he will evolve and his next collection will definitely be much better
Peter Do has a lot of work to do with Helmut Lang. A special thing about Helmut Lang is that the “cool” was effortless. Simple but intriguing. He has to dig deep and understand the technological and marketing side of Helmut Lang
Re plus size wanting to not show a part of their body Yes, you are correct that some feel comfortable with showing different parts, but what is important is that EVERYONE has the opportunity to show what they wish, to wear what makes them feel good.

In many of these collections, you can really see a paring back of embellishments to reflect the recent economic upheaval. We probably have quite a bit more of that to look forward to, sigh. The floral embellished jeans were lovely, though. You did a great job pointing out what was still good and what was too far into blandsville. 💖

It’s funny you mention CS and Mood. The Reddit sewing community hates mood because the pictures of their samples are so poorly sewn, and their patterns aren’t very professional. CS’s designs remind me of that.
I can see the AREA designs working in ready to wear, yet becoming a bit faddish. It reminds me of the 80’s (yes I’m old) When something very cool gets done to death because everyone wants it.

I agree, I love Coach but yes as a clothing brand. It's a no for me, not because the material isn't good. But it doesn't really stand out to me. The bags however, they do it for me every time 👏
Coach has definitely come a LONG way. From being an atrocious pedestrian person’s bag brand (which Michael Kors took over and holds that title) to elevated, going back to basics and leaving behind the “cheap luxe” attitude behind.

Ralph Lauren: in 1974 my mom made some gold disco pants for my Barbie that looked and fit better than these ones. I thought the gold here was overused and trying to make up for lack of originality. The gold denim was cool, and the polo but that one was just paired stupidly.
