- Traces of War focuses on the Soviet offensive into the Ukraine not long after the Battle of Kursk in 1943. The Soviet offensive rolls forward opposed by a more nimble, but smaller, German opponent into early 1944. Released by Vuca Simulations, and designed by the talented Tetsuya Nakamura, players are given the chance to experience the Soviets on the offensive in a playable, yet sophisticated game package.
I was on the fence about this one until I watched ur play through. I just ordered it lol. Thanks for what you do!
Hey Mr Purple! Anytime a real hex-and-counter wargame comes along that can be played in 1 day, it’s worth a look. Thanks for the kind note! - Paul
I 15:35 really like the round chits for activation: easier to differentiate between two units.
The video is fantastic.
You explain very well, the presentation is logical, interesting and makes you want to set-up the game. Thank you.
My pleasure, Mr E. - Paul
I absolutely love the color pallet for this game. I wish all Eastern Front games looked this way. Also, it's like Vuca actually wants you to get their games to the table and play. The production quality and accessibility is off the charts.
Hello Tolkien…. Yes it is a first class production with rules short enough that I can set it up, do a quick review, and start playing. - Paul
Another great play through ! Enjoyed it! Looks like a fun game
Thanks Mike! A real-live hex and counter wargame you can play in one day is always a welcome addition. -- Paul
Well done
The map is beautiful
Thank you
Hi OK, thanks for the video. I’m scrubbing through the video so didn’t hear all of the commentary. Does this game depict the same battle/ situation as A Victory Lost or Ukraine ‘43? I like the look of the map and components but it looks very similar to those 2 I already own. Thanks for any insights!
Hi Mr Lowe! I’ve never played either, but yes, it looks like there would be overlap. The big difference would be the game system. Ukraine 43, as an early entry in the 19xx series, has double the rules. More detail. More playing time. Not a single session game. I don’t own A Victory Lost, but the scope looks similar, and it is by the same game designer. Probably a different system. - Paul
why is the map upside down?
Hey Mr 6664! When I set up for a video I evaluate how I can get the best overall shooting angle. In ToW, I wanted the primary axis of the Soviet attack to be nearest the table edge, so I could get my best shooting angle in that region. Given that in fact-to-face play at the table, most games have one player or another looking at the map sideways or upside down, that’s just part of the deal of being a hex-and-counter wargamer. Thanks for commenting! - Paul
