Nice video. When this arrived I did something similar, playing the Indonesian Soviet Influence operation using only Royal Australian Navy ships. We lost when we were forced to expend all of our ordnance trying to survive an unexpected encounter with a Soviet carrier. A very believable narrative and fun. And thanks to you, I now have a bunch of those card holders ordered from Etsy!
Hi Paul! Most excellent! SL is right in there with other DVG games - lots of fun to play. The level of detail is spot on, and unlike some other solitaire systems, there are always tough and meaningful decisions to make. And yes, the trays add to the experience! Enjoy! - Paul
Notwithstanding my two previous comments, this was an excellent tutorial video and I thank you for putting it on. Bouchard was in the screening for so he should’ve gotten two stress minus the one for his cool leaves him with one stress
I was not happy with how I summarized stress in Part 1, so I will begin Part 2 with a summary. Thanks for your great comments. One of the big issues with solitaire is that you have nobody to catch your mistakes. Well, I have you guys to help me out. Most Excellent! - Paul
Just getting back into the game after eighteen months' hiatus, and this is really helpful, thanks Paul. Question: At 50:00 The unknown sub is attempting detection on a TF ship. However, the detection values on the sub counter list [in square brackets] a [3]. Does this not mean tht the max detection range for that sub is 3 anyway, so it doesn't matter whether it passes its detection rolls or not?
Hello Tony. The optional rules for the sensor effectiveness cards replace the normal range limits printed on the cards and counters. That way - at least my interpretation - max range is affected by weather and sea state and therefore is variable depending on conditions. I think this is very cool and I like the optional rule and what it does to game play, even if it adds some complexity to the game. - Paul
I’ll have to check that, but you know, I like how that works so I think I’ll keep doing that. I view it as a kind of “snap-shot” and I don’t see why the allies are any worse at it than the Soviets. Part of the beauty of solitaire is that you get to play the way you want to! 😁. - Paul
Hey Mr Hammer! Funny you should ask…, I did an entire video on this very topic. Find “Upping your game” “Improving your DVG games”. The trays are very handy and work on all games in the leader series. Enjoy! - Paul
Hello Kili! I am only interested playing with the ‘allies’ expansion, which is where the 4 Japanese ships are coming from. Allies only gives you more ship cards and counters; there are no new rules or scenarios. The ‘carriers’ expansion comes with a lot of new ships, aircraft counters, etc, plus new scenarios and rules. The submarines expansion is similar, but the focus is more on solitary sub ops, which makes sense since subs are pretty much independent of other - even friendly - forces in their area. - Paul

@@theoakenknight1748 Ah, right - thanks Paul. I might just start my new time with this game with that in as an optional house rule. Cheers 😄
Outstanding video! Thank you.
Thank ya cb! More coming. - Paul
The detection level 2 permitting it to fire 1 weapon only applies to the enemy. It does not apply to the Allied forces.

where did u get the card holders that hold a card and units?

I believe when you put the two starred submarines location down, you were supposed to add four to the die roll according to the submarine card.
Hi Tom. Most observant! Yup I forgot about that. War is hell…, and then you record it for all to see! - Paul
Still a great teaching tool. I was a play tester. It got me to bring my game back upstairs and try this scenario with your restrictions.
Are you playing with any expansions ? Are any necessary ?

Oh, and none are necessary, as the core game has plenty to keep you busy. - Paul
Nice tutorial on how to start 3Rd World War 😊
Thank you
