    I liked playing the tiny map. The key is to don't overbuild in the early stages--keep everything down to one building max and your population very low. Once you get to where you have a comfortable stockpile of resources, then you build in the barren areas and think about how to combat the badtide seasons. I went with blowing out the back of that stream near the waterfall and diverting water out that way when it happens. I then went nuts and turned the "poo water" area into my industrial zone while I went on a plan to divert clean water to "greenify" the barren lands on the other side. It was fun and calming because I wasn't in dire straits of maintaining a large colony.

      7 beavers consume practically no food and water. You can store up water in the wet season, and leave the pumps off the rest of the time. 1 farmer is more than enough, and you can turn the farm off for ages with no problems. Also, no need for dinamite to divert the water. Just build levies around the water source, and raise the floodgates to divert it off the map, you can do it very early in the game.
      Edit: I had the exact same idea with the badwater source, I even platformed over the river to make more space for the industrial area

    I see 2 critical issues for your near future. Hard does *not* fuck around.
    1. You haven't built a breeding pod yet. You need at *least* one.
    2. You need around 6 water storages and 2-3 pumps for early game. You should try to have 20 water storage per beaver in your colony as soon as possible. Beavers drink 2 water per day and early game droughts get up to 10 days *quick*. You'll want to eventually get that up to 60 storage per beaver (30 day droughts). You can relax that a bit if you get a sizeable dam going.
    You correctly identified wood as an early problem and you are doing well on addressing it. Diorama is the biggest wood crunch in the vanilla maps. If you want an enormous challenge after this, I recommend finding the "Tiny Island" map. That one is a true joy to play.
    Edit to Add: Don't forget you can build cheap early game bridges out of the single block storages. They let water pass through them. You can pick up the wood from demolishing them when you get a log storage going.

    Some thoughts from me:
    - You can turn the Bad Tide into a Drought, if you just funnel the water off-map.
    That is probably the best idea to deal with them. Bad Water is worse than no water.
    - If you build multiple inventors, consider a graduating priority. One highest, one high, one medium, one low.
    That way the mostly use leftover beavers.
    - according to the wiki, tree Spawning is not diagonal and not increased by nearby trees.
    I can't think of a pattern that leaves 2 spaces without empty spots, so I guess a checker-board pattern is the solution?
    - if you had a builder hut, you could make all builder jobs except 1-2 low priority. So the builders automatically go for better jobs
    - build the slowest tree the furthest back. Beavers don't need to go often to slow growers. But often to fast growers.

    • @BobMcBobJr
      @BobMcBobJr หลายเดือนก่อน

      I put my inventors, 1 high priority (not very high, that's for essentials like food and water), all the rest at very low priority since only one is necessary but any extra beavers can amplify progression.

    Almost. Where are the bredding pods ?
    Also, you don't need to divert the bad tides if you create a permanent green space on top of those hills. Should be safe from contamination AND unaffected by draught. All you need is dynamite (to make a 3x3 hole), a fluid dump and lots of water reserve (which you should have anyway). @@KryptCeeper969 I also bought the game after season 1 and have 300 hours in... but for a variety of reasons, mostly time spent on TH-cam and at work, but also issues with computer replacement and time spent playing other games on Steam, I haven't played since before this update.
      Admittedly, a big reason why I haven't played this game in that long is because I loved the sandbox feel of the game before badwater, I had a couple of impressive builds in earlier updates that now likely won't load in the new update, and from what I've seen on TH-cam, the badwater update makes it far more of a competition against the environment. And yes, you would be correct if you guessed that I didn't play on the higher difficulty levels. 🙂

It's a bit log-expensive but i don't think there's a cheaper way, and bonus, without going through your town... and you'll still have a clean water reservoir.

    If you actually want to be efficient, then its recommended that you have more beavers than workplaces, but, keep extra beavers employed as haulers/builders in low priority workplaces so as a result your factories will work non stop (this is important on small maps such as this). I'd also recommend putting decor pieces and monuments of various kinds in either workplaces or on top of lodges so that beavers will charge up their need for them easilly as they spend most time in theese places.

    To make a self-seeding Forest work, you need to remove the stumps of cut trees, so the new ones have somewhere to grow. The easiest way to do remove stumps is to place a path over them, so to keep a self-seeding Forest going you’ll need to occasionally cover the area with paths and then delete the paths, freeing up spots for new trees.

    Things I've learned playing in hard mode in general... evaporation is a real issue. to the point that it's worth blasting out irrigation holes or building levee towers connected to a water dump that use your stored water to top it up. the thing is the droughts last long enough that should your water on the map evaporate enough to recede your irrigated area.. well... let's just say your water storage situation isn't the only thing you'll be worrying about during the drought.
    In other words, getting many pumpers in to work through what little wet season you'll get and having plenty of storage for it... is probably the most important thing to have in hard mode.
    Additionally, little fun tidbits I've realized when playing.. the supply and obtain tabs in storage are actually really useful to keep efficiency high when you have haulers in the district.
    The reason being that you can put a small temporary storage out front of the production building (set to supply) where the workers will defer to if the building itself is full, then the haulers shuffle it to your larger, further away main storage (no priority set). It then allows you to put other smaller storages about set to obtain that you can place closer to your big construction sites. Like say you want to build a big dam further away from your district centre and you're annoyed by your beavers running over half the map to put down one log, get hungry, run all the way back, eat, drink then run all the way back to progress the building's % and the day's already over, so now they're also losing on sleep time.
    Oh and also... these aren't Folktails anymore. time to manage breeding pods again. Don't forget those, lest you find yourself without a colony.
    Come to think about it... Ironteeth players, can you keep breeding pods at 99% completion paused so that they don't pop out the new beaver til you need them? AKA does it allow you to keep like say 20 breeding pods on pause as backup beavers should your colony decease?

    Push your working hours to 18. That will get you 100 science every 3 days. As others have said, build some breeding pods, 2 should be enough. Build more food and water storage. You should probably build 2 water tanks per cycle until you can get a gear shop in to build a medium tank. The key for this map is don't have too many of anything until you can store enough food and water to survive the longest droughts. Only build a small pile to store planks while having 1 large pile for logs. Just be slow and deliberate until you can build a way to divert the bad water from the main waterfall off the map during the bad tides and then look for expansion. You'll only need stairs (70), single platforms (100), levees (120), and single flood gates (150) to get this done along with enough logs and planks. That's 440 science, which should be there in 14 days.

    I was just playing on the tiny map and realised that the best place to put the farmhouse wasn't on land but over water. So it could hit both sides of the clean river. Houses and non-industry buildings could go up in the mountain. Industry could go next to the poo water.

    Use 4 floodgates and a basin dam at the base of the waterfall, 2 of them open to the stream and are set to 1.5 and two go to the edge of the map while being set to 2. Then on the eve of the badtide open the poogates to setting 1 and seal the water gates by setting them to 2. For added security, add layers below the gates to dilute missed timings.

    I began playing Timberborn after watching season 8.
    Started in Waterfalls on hard. My first ever drought was 7 days long. Some water and food shortages during the first few cycles, but then everything got much better. Now I'm diverting badtides right off the edge of the maps, and I've capped both badwater sources.
    However there is a MASSIVE issue: I still can't find how to unlock the Beavles! I could really use some entertainment for my beavers!

  • @jamoecw
    @jamoecw หลายเดือนก่อน

    For dealing with bad tide you can unlock flood gates and raise the river with dikes. You put some flood gates to let the bad tide off the close edge near the bottom of the waterfall, and some floodgates to stop the flow into the river past the part where the waterfall lands. This gives a lot of water to run through when the drought gets big before you start losing crops.
    You will need berry storage though as you need berries to make more beavers.

    To make a self-seeding forest without a Forester you need to make a checkerboard pattern with the tree cutting tool

  • @ShawnHCorey
    @ShawnHCorey หลายเดือนก่อน

    GG. One of the better ways for a self-reseeding forest is to cut down trees in a checker-board pattern. This will increase the probability of a bare square being reseeded since the 4 squares that can reseed it have adult trees in them.

  • @shivanSpS
    @shivanSpS หลายเดือนก่อน

    On that map on hardest difficulty the badtides are likely to kill you, more than once you will be likely have to sacrifice beavers in order for 2 to survive and rebuild.
    When you get to the point were to have 20+ days badtides it becomes really difficult to store enoght water. You need to get to the top of the water surce ASAP, and build a reservoir around it with gates and a side discharge to drop contaminated water off the map. You also need to partition it so you can store water ther AND drop badwater off the map.

    A trick I've learned to deal with badtides is to build an alternate route to the edge of the map near the source. That way when the badtide is imminent you can close the normal path and open the alternate, dumping the badwater off the map and essentially turning it into a drought.

      they changed the balance in the last update. large reservoirs are not worth it anymore since you can build large storage barrels, that magicaly let you store more water in them than in comparison to "free" water, and irrigation channels only work when 3 tiles wide (irigation ponds 3x3 are better).

    as iron teeth in hard mode it's realy important to get population growth going asap.
    go 24h workday and build 4 woodcutters and 3 breeding pods. without amenities besides housing and a 20 hour work day you can sustain ca 30 beavers. when the first breeding pod is done unassign 1 worker (he will start filling up the breeding pods with berries) and place the building designation for a water pump and a storage container close by.your beavers should be able to finish this within 24 hours.
    on day 2 you start by building 1 farm, 100 kohlrabis and a scientist. assign only one planter to the farm and pause it once he finished planting. once your kohlrabi are grown place a second farm and assign 2 gatherers. this should sustain your population for quite some time. once your stored berries are running out place a gatherer and a small berry storage close to your breeding pods.
    while waiting for kohlrabi you can start bulding your damn and once thats finished you should have enoug science to get into forestry.
    so you have a stable colony from day 2.

    The reason a log was put in the warehouse around 8:31 is likely because one builder was in the middle of finishing the first dam piece and another builder couldn't yet reach the second dam piece. So the other builder just took the log they were holding to somewhere they could actually use it.
