  • A battle between two former champions in this event, with John Schmidt facing Alex Pagulayan in the 8th round of the Derby City Classic One Pocket Division.
    Schmidt, 49, is known as "Mr. 600", for his run of 626 balls in straight pool. Schmidt was the 2009 Derby City Classic One Pocket Champion. The 2006 US Open 9-Ball Championship is another major title amongst the number of titles Schmidt has won.
    "The Lion" Alex Pagulayan, 44, was a back to back Derby City Classic One Pocket Champion in 2015 and 2016. He is the only player in history who has won every title (including the all around title) that is competed for at Derby City. Pagulayan is affectionately known in the sport as "The smallest man with the biggest heart".
    Jeremy Jones and Mark Wilson called all of the action.

      Yup. These are a couple of the sharpest analysts of the game.
      Billy and Grady (rip) and even Schmidt does great commentary...
      But yeah...M Wilson and J Jones are both v articulate / sharp.

      @trumanhw I really miss Mathews & Incardona calling....I always chuckled when they bantered back and forth on different shots and options! They were a one of kind!!!! Glad you enjoyed this match as much as I did!!!

      @@67st1I agree. They brought a natural, comedic element that no other two announcers had, except for maybe Danny and Billy.

    I'm surprised Schmidt skipped the cut to open the match but shot that _super touchy_ swerve bank to get -one- at best. Oh well.

      @John-jl4to ปีที่แล้ว

      Well he was trying to make that bank and go into that ball that was near the queue ball which would have got in position removed one from his opponent. 's side and he would have been able to run a bunch but he had to miss the double kiss on the bank touch you for sure

    John has a weird twitch in his stroke and and moves his head right before shooting. Looks like he is changing his aiming eye before the final swing.

    I’m still not a fan of the foul rule. It seems like the advantage of it favors the other in debt. I get it there’s a shot clock and all, but this is derby city. It’s our degenerate tourney ran by the greatest. It’s no match room (no hate to them and love what they’re doing) so I feel like we should play the original rules. We’re paying for streams so everyone makes money still. For example, the players are, streamers, etc… Still love derby and thanks Greg for putting together such an amazing tournament here in the states.

    Should just put 1 ball on table whoever makes it wins. Race to 1. We dont want the game to go on to long! Equalizing the fouls changed the game,spotted a ball when he wouldn't have had a ball.Sounds complicated doesn't it!

    good match - fun to watch. When there is a clock on the game I don't mind watching Alex at all. Without the clock Alex stalls as much as guys like Corey Deuel, Johnny Archer, Orcollo...

      They just aren't sure about what they don't and second guess themselves. Their brains can't compute that fast like Earl Strickland and Minnesota fats always could.

      The only reason there is a shot clock is because it's a tournament televised match. One pocket is a chess match. It was never meant to be a fast game. It is a game of strategy where one wrong move can change the entire match.

    Would love to attend the DCC but its in Elizabeth Indiana which is nowhere lol. As nowhere as the Johnston City tournaments. And that means there's no vegan food AT ALL as the people there not that progressive or in tune or spiritual... Weed is also illegal an you can get 180+ days for personal or medical use. A draconian dead last place indeed. I'll stick with Vegas and will create my own tournament in the MILE HIGH bigger and more consistent than anything ever seen in pool.
