Love this . Played this for my late grandmother when it first released and she loved it , brought back memories of her childhood here in Sullivan County , New York in the 1930s and 40s. Now she's past, I play this and remember that day. Brings joy and remembrance of all those generational stories on the Catskills Mtn as our family has been here since the late 1800s. Well done Paul.

Dear John, Thank you for your comment. Our family has been in Hurleyville since the 1800's also. This brings back faded memories. I am so glad that you enjoyed it. Paul

That was great! My dad (named "Owen") used to go with his family to Middletown every summer. My grandmother demanded tickets on the O&W because they didn't burn that nasty, smokey coal that the other roads used. One of my great, great uncles built the station at Hurley and worked as a mason on the Middletown station!

Hi Paul, great song! and possibly the longest I've ever listened to on youtube. My grandparents had a boarding house in Parksville called The White Star House. I saw an old advertising postcard from their place that said "call when you get off the train and we'll pick you up"

Thank you Alan! It was great to see you last evening !! and thanks for looking up and watching my video. 99% of the photos of people are my family, all of whom lived on Whittaker Road near Hurleyville. I'm also glad that it brought back fond memories of your grandparents!
      be well !

I just wanted to say that I used to and still love this video. I was extremely interested in trains back then, and I liked them since I was a toddler when my brother enjoyed them; I wanted to be similar to him. I vividly remember playing this song for my whole class in forth grade during an open time. No one really liked it except for myself, and one girl even seemed impatient by it, but I didn't mind. I loved and still love history, music, and trains, which seems to be a good combo in my opinion. I'm very appreciative of the fact that you made this song. Nostalgia is amazing!

Hey Rus! Thank you so much for your continued support of my video!! It takes a special kind of person to share this with their 4th grade class! It is because we are special kind of people that simply have a yearning for the history and the people who made it happen! Although it is not musical, my latest major endeavor has been to investigate the history of the "one room school houses" in the township where I, and most of the people you see in this video grew up. check out "oneroomschoolsthompsonny.com" I know you will enjoy that also!

Thank you for this song and video. I was born in Harris, NY in 1985. My parents both came and met in the Catskill Mountains in the 70's. They were in search of the Catskill revival which to this day has never come. I was always interested in the history of our lovely mountains and always wanted to know what it was that brought people here. Thank you again for this lesson in my own history. I am working on making our Mountains be all that they can be. In my opinion we need a railroad revival, n

Such a shame that the "old Woman" is gone from NY. I use to live 1 block away from there middletown shops. The O&W is by far one of my favorite railroads... The men kept her going with sheer pride and determination right up until the end!

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that so many would watch and listen to this story of my homeland here in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. My video is not mine, but it belongs to all who have a piece of this railroad and the rich, wonderful history or our beloved Catskills in their hearts. It is OUR story here in Sullivan County New York ! Paul

Beautiful! I remember following the road that ran pretty much adjacent to the old O&W line into mountaindale one day; Never heard of it ; downtown is kind of spooky, mostly abandoned; i remember someone telling me about a bad train accident; Train was slowly moving backwards and smashed; Think it was dairy on it?

PLEASE DO! A few of the pictures do have captions however, since my parents were from Sullivan County and moved to Middletown, identifying all the locations would be appreciated. There is at least a couple that are identified as Mountain Dale and South Fallsburg.

Thank you for the song and pictures. One picture in particular caught my attention. A pencil drawing of an Iron trestle partly seated upon laid stone foundation. Do you have any more information on this you could share with me.

Termi Nation That bridge was the Neversink River Trestle. It stood south of Fallsburgh, NY and wasn't too far from the Fallsburgh Tunnel. It was torn down not too long after abandonment but last time I checked, the abudments and supports are still standing.
