I really like Hamish Linklater's Batman voice so far. It's like he's channeling a little bit of Kevin Conroy, but he still manages to make it his own.
To think, people were bashing him saying his voice sounded like AI.
We have been getting a lot of good superhero cartoons and season 2’s this year, except Megamind rules it’s bad. Invincible season 2, My adventures with Superman, X-men97, moon girl and devil dinosaur, now Batman.
@@bearerofbadnews1375 I'm so glad I didn't spend any time on the Megamind show. That Doom Syndicate "movie" was awful enough.
FR, i like how he sounds like if Conroy had a raspier voice, makes him sound more serious and hopeless.
@@michaelstrong5383 *The Doom Syndicate Does not Exist*
X-Men '97 , My Adventures with Superman , Invincible and Now Batman Caped Crusader Superhero Action Cartoons are Back.
Arcane, Blood of Zeus, Castlevania, Blue Eye Samurai.
Hoping the new Spider-Man cartoon is well done
My Adventures with Superman isn't good tho
I need to check these out right away. I’m already binge watching X-Men ‘97. I miss the days of animated superhero action cartoons.
@@mgarchivearchive9776 They should have brought back spectacular spiderman first lol.
I kinda push back on the narrative that a Batman animated has to be rated R or more adult. The original 90s show had lots of adult stuff in it that was subtlely written
Yeah, it honestly didn't matter if there was gratuitous violence or outright sex or anything; it was just well-written and had fantastic characterizations. That's what made it the classic that it continues to be today.
I agree it feels like after the Boys a lot of attitude towards and release superhero media aimed towards adults has to be overly violent or sexual. Also if the 90s show got a R extension or cut it'd lose some of its charm so its cool the writers created something new. That said animated batman works well in rated-R.
that’s when the writers talents kick in, when you think of the popular shows many had subtle writing. Now add their talents and add the more adult stuff it can work they need talent.
Indeed and I think something like the Ren and Stimpy adult party shows that having no restrictions doesn't always equate to better quality 🤔.
@@kiptelgat 100% agree 😎.
I really hope X-Men 97 opens the floodgates to adult versions of our favorite childhood cartoons
All we need is for Sym-Bionic Titan, the original Teen Titans series and Avengers: EMH to come back
Been had one with Harley Quinn
@@jahdorose8659 Harley Quinn is lit, but it doesn't have that serious tone that 97 has or this seems to have 🤔
@@TylerJxN I know
I've been wanting a Darker version of TAS ever since Mask of The Phantasm came out, the HYPE is real
Bruce Timm has confirmed that Batman caped crusader is going to be more mature and more darker than Batman the animated and judging by the trailer we going to get it he said that this is what Batman the animated series was going to be
How long until they start calling it woke? I saw black people and women, so it’s coming.
With the My adventures with Superman in its second season, now a new Batman cartoon. We’re seeing a return of the “world’s finest.”
Hopefully a Justice League animated series is next.
Thanks to Harley Quinn shaking things up with her animated series
My Adventures with Superman is gay af. We need an actual good superman show
@@GuitarHalo2 it's the best superman show we have gotten
@@GuitarHalo2 What's wrong with being gay?. Cope and seethe
Korey (Normie): "It was the episode with the Man-Bat."
Martin (Nerd): "Yeah, On Leather Wings."
😂😂😂😂
The guy with black and white circular mask is Onomatopoeia. A villain created by Kevin Smith and Phil Hester. He’s a Green Arrow and Batman villain. Who says sound effects out loud (like Bang, Crack, Slice!). He kills vigilantes and superheroes.
Tight. So you are supposed to take his name literally.
Glad to see The Golden Age Clayface & Onomatopoeia get more screen time
That old batman animated series the writing was too phenomenal......it was dark .and as a kid I got it.....hasn't been anything like that in years...glad that we get another animated batman series
That trailer was hard asf! It even seems a bit darker than the original show
And the 90’s Batman was dark asF even for tv. Prime will amplify it by x10!!!
This looks pretty cool. It’s got BTAS vibes but the 40’s aesthetic makes it set itself apart. I know people were bashing on the new Batman VA but honestly, he sounds perfectly fine. No one can replace Kevin Conroy, it’s common knowledge but it’s nice to see some others who were inspired by his voice to be Batman. To think, this show was on the verge of being a part of WBD HBOMax purge two years ago.
I hope it’ll be just as good as X-Men ‘97.
Hope people actually watch it, unlike X-Men '97.
I'm pretty excited, DC hits hard with their animated products. A small edit to add and answer Korey's question, MAX did originally have it, but Zazlov stupidly canned the project where Prime scooped it up and saved it in turn getting us a potentially awesome show to stream. Zazlov seems to have an animation hate boner.
#FireDavidZaslov2024
WB gets more money from licensing out their stuff than putting it up on Max. WB is $43 billion in debt.
Well, Zaslav is trying to return to the old cable network shows days--WB TV makes products, and Zaslav sells it to other channels, like it used to be back in the day. Does it make sense? No. Does HE think it makes sense? Yes.
Most animated products except young justice. I liked the more mature tone of season 3 but season 4 had way too many story arcs in ONE season.
I don't get how Zaslav is still in charge. He's not doing a good job in any metric. I'd understand it if Zaslav was pumping up WBD stock, then the investors would be happy. But Zaslav has done a terrible job with WBD stock, the stock price has dropped more than 60% since he took over and he still got paid $50 million last year.
the best episode of Batman TAS was Heart of ice. the Mr. freeze episode.
A classic, redefined Mr. Freeze.
There's too many great episodes. Perchance to Dream is one of my favorites.
So happy you all talking about this 😊 the trailer got me hyped.
I've been wanting a Darker version of TAS ever since Mask of The Phantasm came out, the HYPE is real with this one
Since X-Men’97, I think streaming will want more adult leaning animation. Netflix knew anime was a winning investment. Disney knew there was an appetite for more quality X-Men content. MAX is dumb for not seeing the draw of a great Batman animation, unless they are planning to eventually sell their streaming platform.
You mean.....since Velma 😂
Man it's so good to see batman back.
This was supposed to premiere on max, David Zaslav cut it. Than Prime came in and were interested, and max sold it to them.
He cut this but gave 2 seasons to Thelma
@@BizznessBox he'll probably wind up regretting it I figure
when batman tas 1st appeared, it came on 8pm at night on fox
Batman The Audio Adventures is a great radio drama Batman series with Jeffrey Wright as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Brooke Shields as Vick Vick Vicky Vale, Bradley Whitford as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow, Brent Spiner/Data from Star Trek as Joker and way more. Amazing show
It’s 2024 they need to bring back Batman Beyond and tell new stories with new characters.
True. I also find it odd that Wonder Woman does not have her own animated show.
@@rascoehunter3608 You'd think they would work on something like that since she was one of the main characters in the Justice League cartoon.
That’s why fan fics are for. Many us artists and writers wanna continuing the old series. Plus MeTV and Tubi are bringing back our old cartoons from our childhoods. Goes to show you nostalgia never dies and never will.
Imagine Batman Beyond with this darker tone, and Terry's a grown up. 🤩
@@TabathaTMartin exactly. They can do so much there. Can take place after Bruce. RIP Kevin Conroy
Respect to Martin but Billy is right, it was on M-F. This wasn't on, on Saturdays at all.
It kicked off the DC Animated shows but that's it. X-Men premiered a month later on Saturday mornings. We were spoiled.
Even more cool was that both shows would air on Fox's primetime slot every now and then (I think Batman first premiered on primetime). Hell, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' season 2 premiere would also air in that time; just shows how powerful and influential Fox Kids were for children's programming in the 90s.
Remember waking up early in the weekday to watch morning cartoons at 6am? Mummies Alive
In the later iteration it did show up on Fox Kids on Saturday. It was when the animation style changed and it focused on Batman, Tim Drake Robin, Batgirl, with some appearances by Nightwing.
Nah, it was on pretty much 6 days a week at one point. It was on M to F, but they had episodes Saturday morning as well on Fox.
I spotted a Jack Napier type with a machine gun. I think Joker's gonna be set up as the season finale reveal.
Also, Renee Montoya in old timey suit, choice choice. Between this, Harley Quinn, My Adventures with Superman, Kite Man Hell Yeah and Superman Legacy, DC cool again
Batman’s new cartoon series just gone much edgier since the old Batman animated series. It got great style, the new voice of Batman is amazing to contribute Kevin Conroy since his passing. It’s gonna be on prime in which I got my account to see that.
Hell with Gotham, San Francisco needs Batman
This looks great. I love that not only are they embracing the 40s aesthetic like BTAS did; it's straight up set in the 1930s/1940s. Love seeing Batman's original comic-book costume brought to life for this, as well as seeing the "classic" looks on characters like Penguin, Catwoman and Clayface. And I love seeing that sensibility applied to characters like Harley Quinn & Two-Face as well. Considering the Bruce Timm pedigree behind it, there's definitely high expectations for this. I'm suuuuper stoked for this.
Now We Just Need A Superman Version As Was Originally Planned For The Animated Series.
@@lawrencerinehart5747To be honest though, and even by Timm’s admission, if you wanna see what they really wanted to do with Superman:TAS before ultimately landing on what we got for that show, just look up the Fleischer Bros. Superman shorts from the 1940s. Ultimately, a key reason why the original retro ideas for STAS were abandoned, was because they had pretty much been done by those shorts. Bruce Timm was even like, “We’re not gonna top the Fleischer shorts at doing what they did best.”
This show is gonna be fire!
Brubaker is probably the best crime writer in the comics space, so that's an incredible talent to have in a Batman writers room
I am just glad it's not more of that god damn gritty realistic crap they've been shoving down our throat since Begins. I want to see the fantasy aspects of Batman too
This show is pretty gritty
@@creativeperson5858 yes but it also has magic and clayface
For some reason, some properties do better on different streamers. Animation doesn’t do well on max, but does great on Amazon. DC Else-worlds properties like Sandman do better on Netflix where the audience is wider. Max is so secluded people go there for their Premium HBO drama shows.
Hamish Linklater sounds like Kevin Conroy's Batman. I can't wait to hear how his Bruce Wayne voice sounds like.
this may sounds crazy but for some reason when i saw a black Jim Gordon i knew Matt Reaves had to be a apart of this like a animated extension to the matt reeves’ The Batman
Hope they hire more thespians and stage actors for this series. Like how X-Men and X-Men '97 did it. They just sound more gruffy, original characterized, and can project their voice a lot more than actors who are more experienced in front of cameras close to them.
I’m sure they are. This is a DC Animated product; they don’t just hire anyone for VOs. XMen and XMen 97 didn’t start that trend; The DCAU voice acting pedigree has always been there since the beginning, by doing exactly what you’re suggesting: hiring thespians and stage actors. In fact, the studio’s major criticism of BTAS’ voice acting was that it wasn’t “cartoony” enough. They go for actual acting. And let’s keep it real; as iconic as XMen was, their voice acting wasn’t very good. Honestly the returning voice actors actually got to act and give legit great performances finally with XMen 97.
Watched Batman: TAS for the first last year. Show holds up great.
Next we need the SPAWN 90s cartoon to make a come back
🎯 wit the same exact tone from the 90s and give it a lil bit friendly vibe to it wit dark humor
Man, batman and Spiderman has to have the greatest villains ever in comic history
Animation was not dead when this came out, if anything it was reaching its peak of that era.
It’s crazy how popular Batman animated series, wasn’t a fan but I respect and love the stories. Now that I am older damn this show hands down best cartoon in the 90s
I'll never forget that I teared up at the end of the Gray Ghost episode because Bruce told him he was & still is his hero. And I actually cried at then end of the Dr Freeze episode with him saying his wife's name & later in his jail cell with it snowing.
It looks so flipping good. Im afraid there will only be 10 or so episodes every few years. Quality over quantity is always a good way to think, but i wish we can get more- maybe not 22 episode seasons every year like the old days, but somewhere in between.
This Is Like Pre-Robin Detective Comics With Fleischer Bros Style Amped.
Pulpy, Noir, Expressionistic, RetroFuturistic.
In my opinion, when dc animated stories try to be more mature they end coming across more juvenile than the cartoons that were made for families. Whenever they curse, show sexuality or extreme violence it doesn’t hit the same way it did when there were limitations probably because the creators were forced to be more creative with the story and innuendos in Batman TAS and justice league unlimited.
The guy with the glasses might be Hugo Strange instead of clay face I'm so pumped for this can't wait gonna have my popcorn and recliner seat ready🍿🛋
What a treat we Batman fans are in for baby, Caped Crusader, The Penguin, The Batman 2, Joker 2.. showing Star wars how its done(massive star wars fan by the way 🤣) that Batmen kitchen needs new fire doors 🔥🔥🔥
This is the happiest day of my life.
You know the Joker will be tease at the end of the final episode
How different this show seems i feel if joker is included theyll put they own spin on it and i feel it’ll work
Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka are top tier comics writers (usually more crime focused stories)
The brother James Tucker is also a producer on CC! You should get an interview. He was involved with Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League/Unlimited. Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and plenty of the New 52/DCAMU animated films!
Hell yes! I'm so excited for this.
Batman the AS was such a great show. Good god, I was 23 at the time. Wow. Time flies. Also, HQ better be in this show!
This looks phenomenal and gave me goosebumps, the perfect combination of BTAS and The Batman.
People already started complaining about Gordon being black. Even use the same excuse for Yasuke in Assassins Creed about “historical accuracy.” Even though there actually was a black police commissioner around the time period this is taking place.
Batman is my favorite superhero..so this is incredible..
I freaking love Batman the animated series I loved this show ever since I was a kid the animation is beautiful the characters are well developed and are all close to the source material
While I doubt it will be as good as the original Animated Series, still eager to watch all 8 episodes when it streams. Also, GENTLEMEN GHOST is one of the headlining guest villains! How awesome is that? Love that cad!
I remembered when it was announced just as The Batman (2022) was released.
Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves is a good team to have behind it.
Wish that MAX didn't pass on this.
Looks as amazing as they were explaining during DC FANDOME 2022.
Between this and The Penguin original series, Batman's 85th is looking pretty good.
This looks phenomenal. And I love the Bruce timm style of the characters too always loved that animation style.
I think the guy with glasses is Hugo Strange but I could be wrong, damn I hope this is more dark with it being on Prime. So looking forward to it!
Well obviously not really, since again, the Fist impression. Probably Clayface disguised as him.
I got into a huge argument with a guy over even the first episode premiered. I swore it was on Sunday night in Prime Time with "On Leather Wimgs" and he swore it was the Saturday morning before with some other episode.
And it turned out, I was wrong. Apparently there was some sneak preview that I somehow missed. Crazy because I never missed Saturday morning cartoons.
He googled it and sent me the link. I still think it was some kind of conspiracy!
YEEEEEEES! Finally, the BAT has come back to Tele-vision!!!!!!
I’ve been waiting *YEARS* for this series to come out
This looks absolutely amazing 🦇
Correction to Martin, "WESTERN" animation was dead with poor writing in the early 90s, but Anime was at another level at that time. It just didn't have the global exposure as Western animation had.
If they planned for S2 for next year or year after we better see The Joker, Poison Ivy, Mr Freeze, Ral Al Ghul, The Riddler, Rag Doll and Man Bat
I just saw the trailer. Man, now this is The Batman we’ve been waiting for sin the 1990’s Batman with the original producers with the addition of J.J. Abrams it’s an epic series that is coming to Amazon Prime too??? I’m all F ing al day and like they say call your cousins and bring your popcorn because this is crime fighting television animation at its best on August 1!!!
Since you guys mentioned Ed Brubaker, apparently he’s currently in the middle of developing a tv series adaptation of his comic book “CRIMINAL” that he & Sean Phillips created. And Ed Brubaker himself is going to be the showrunner, writer, & executive producer and it’s coming out on Prime Video. I hope it’s awesome!
I want something that feels like the Animated Series. But 3 words could kill it, “modern day sensibilities.”
Paul Dini created Harley Quinn!
I’m looking forward watching it because the 90s batman series was my childhood favorite show .
Hopefully Harley is referencing the Joker when she said "the jester". Probably just clever writing and a great way to reference him in trailer without showing him. There is no way they can go back to BTAS without bringing back Mark Hamill's Joker....right?
I wonder if part of the reason Max decided not to carry it, is because of how Beware the Batman got pulled from CN. Ratings may have been low, so they didn't have as much confidence for another Batman show. Although, I agree, they're dumb for passing on this. Kids may have not tuned in for Beware the Batman, but enough of an audience will more than likely tune in for this, for nostalgia.
This looks amazing, a proper evolution of the material since Batman TAS (although The Batman was a solid show in it's own right )
Hamish Linklater is inspired casting.
Looks so good!
HBO Max fucked up for not having this show on Max. They removed a long list of Batman movies and JL movies too. I hope this show does well!
Omg this just cured my depression
Greatest animation and music ever
i was on the floor in front the tv when this came on
8:32 - The funny and aggravating thing about this is that... You're not far off there Korey! This was actually a part of a large tax write off that Zaslav and WBD were doing at the time that resulted in not only ao much content being removed or cancelled outright, specifically a lot of the animated stuff which REALLY got people riled up the most, but is also why stuff like this and Merry Little Batman were being moved over to Prime and one of the Looney Tunes movies being put to theaters instead of to Max. It was essentially why people haven't been too fond of Zaslav since before Max was even announced and why people were still demanding Coyote V Acme to be released somwhow to this day.
Haven't been this excited for a batman series since the batman in 2004 on kids Wb back in the day haven't used prime video in a while so this will be a good one to watch wonder how many seasons it's gonna be is it all in one or is it a new episode a week August 1st looking forward to it ❤❤
I am glad that they realize there fan base has grown up and they should as well i can't wait to be able to watch this some how even tho i don't own prime I cant wait to add to my collection
The reason new Batman isn't on Max: Zsalov. He also just lost Inside the NBA.
I was a born year after 92 man
BTAS And STAS Plus JL JLU
Awesome shows
If I remember correctly WB dropped this around the time Discovery acquired them and started cutting the bottom line. I think having talent from 90s Batman and not being live or connected to any movies/shows, might've been what saved it from the same fate as Batgirl and Titans.
Great team, keep up the good work.
To say, I’m excited about the shows and understatement
It looks good. The only thing I don't like is Batman's costume. Same with the 90s Animated Series. I'd prefer it looked like armour rather than spandex.
Too much joker? He is Batman's greatest enemy, integral yo the character, use him sparringly , but make it a clever use and impactful is what i say.
Zaslav shopped this to Prime and Netflix, and Prime got the spot. He wants to keep things DC as part of the DC Universe, and he wants to be able to sell his WB Television stuff and make money, where possible.
Prime has always had a way with picking up castaway shows and capitalizing on other outlets mistakes.
the reason it looks "off" is because its drawn digitally, but the quality of the animation could potentially be better considering how much easier digital is. I do miss the rustic feel of cel animation though. Hopefully, this is better than invincibles 2 fps animation. that last season with its budget and popularity had no business looking so stiff and cheap.
I really hope Professor. Hugo Strange becomes the main villiain
Or even Owlman with sprinkles of the Joker here an there..........
WB/HBO/Discovery has 0 idea what to do with comic book IPs. I also assume they just don't like cartoons and cartoons are not profitable enough.
Didn't know Batman paved the way for Evangelion
MAX rejected this and "My adventures with Superman"
Poison Ivy would be great here, I am excited for this show
Damn corey 20 years older than me ... Damn
It's likely WB/Max makes more money to lease some DC titles to deep-pockets-Prime then to use them as bait for subscriptions.
This looks so badass
